    A tip: pour thin stream, off to the side of your sculpture, allowing the rubber to slowly fill the voids while pushing out the air. You risk air bubbles being trapped the way you showed. Hope this helps.

      YES!!!! Let the silicone do the work! Also, if you’re making a very detailed cast, you need to try to pour the silicone right away, even with a long working time the silicone will begin to thicken within minutes. If your cast is really, really detailed, it’s also a good idea to brush some silicone on the object before pouring to make sure every detail is coated and it also helps prevent small bubbles around fine details.

    Great molds! Epoxy is glue. Epoxy Resin is two part resin but it is resin not epoxy. Calling it epoxy is confusing to new people. One student kept watching someone on UA-cam and that person kept calling her creme brulee torch a blowtorch. That student ordered a blowtorch from Amazon. Not only was it $200 it was also 5 ft long and threw a 6-inch flame 15 ft.. Thank you for teaching and using the proper names for tools and product! Oh I almost forgot.. 15 minutes is not a lot of time. Make sure that everything is ready to go before mixing the silicone. Great heart mold!

    The only way you can ensure you get Zero bubbles is to use an air vacuum system or at the least, agitate the table and cup. I have never done molding, hence my watching molding type videos such as yours. On full figures I would think the recommended course of action would be to poor the mold on half of the figurine then allow to cure. Then once’s cured, turn it over and mold the second part with an opening. The opening will be used to poor your epoxy or whatever your choice of median is to form your new figurine. Thank you for posting.

    Use Legos! You can reuse Legos and make infinite sizes with them if you get enough bases plus they provide the added benefit of having the ability to key two or more sections of a mold. Just use a bit of release agent on the Legos to make removing the molds easy. You can also get sculpting clay to use in place of hot glue. It’s reusable also. The issue with everyone using cheap plastic is obviously pollution. Using these items costs more initially but is SO much cheaper and better for everyone if you do use them.

    • @sweetcfmermaids1790
      @sweetcfmermaids1790  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you for watching! ☺️ oh no that has happened to me a few times 🤦🏻‍♀️ I have learned that if your molding piece it’s not heavy enough it would float. Best thing to do is use a dab of hot glue just enough to hold your piece in place. Make sure you don’t use to much glue where your piece would rises up then you end up with to much extra silicone material around the bottom of your piece. I use duck closet linen clear contact paper I purchase from Walmart.

    • @sweetcfmermaids1790
      @sweetcfmermaids1790  4 роки тому +9

      The molds are reusable for a long while as long as they are very well taken cared off, make sure you don’t clean the molds with alcohol, don’t use toothpick to bust the air bubbles, give it to much heat with a heat gun or use a torch. Molds can be clean with regular soap and water and a soft rag.
      That will preserved the life of your mold.

    Could you just use bowls with a flat bottom so that you don’t have to glue down or use the contact paper and they be smoother? Or just pour it in the bowl and set the acrylic pieces into the top? Just curious if there’s is a better reason to do it this way.

    • @sweetcfmermaids1790
      @sweetcfmermaids1790  2 роки тому +2

      Thank you for watching! The reason for the contact paper is for it to hold your acrylic piece or what ever means your using down. If not your piece would float to the top. And same if you pour then put your piece on top it will sink in.

    There are three rules that I have learned about using silicone so far. Do not mix in anything like a paper cup. Keep away from anything with Sulphur in it and that one made me think what has Sulphur in it because I am allergic. Never mix with a wooden spoon or stick but you did. I was waiting to see what would happen and nothing did. Now I wonder what happens, they said to use a plastic knife or long plastic spoon. Does it make the mold wear out faster? I need them to tell me why. Thank you.🌷

      With mixing resin, wooden stir sticks create bubbles bc they’re porous, possibly the same reason? Prob why no paper cup, also. And it shouldn’t *really* have to be said, and you prob know, but for others reading this, don’t use silicone cups or stir sticks to mix silicone.

      Use more flexible silicone and make ur first mold on smaller items, don’t make the mold too thick for easier demolding when you finally work on your precious hand cast.

      Hello! Thank you for watching 😊 our condolences to you and your family. In regards to the mold I would start by replicating the plaster mold with a molding putty or polymer clay just make sure the product you use is sulfur free. Once you have replicated the mold then use that to make your mold. The reason for my advise to replicate is because I don’t want you plaster mold to get ruined, Plaster is sensitive to water and I’m not sure how it would react to the wet silicone.

    What is the thickness of the bottom of your mold? In other words, how much silicone do you pour above the object you are using to make your mold?
    Also, how deep does your mold need to be so the resin doesn’t bend?

    • @sweetcfmermaids1790

      I make my molds at least 1.5 inches thick. If you are using 1/4 or 1/8 acrylics blanks to make your molds the 1.5 it’s a good thickness for your molds. The mold will be pretty solid and heavy.

    Thank you for the video. I tried doing the molds from an acrylic blank and they worked by then when I poured epoxy into the molds and demolded it the piece looked scratched or like it had hairs on it. I did the scrubs like you had, even wiped them down before pouring silicone on them but I noticed your pieces had smudges on them so what did I do wrong. You didn't mention anything about cleaning the pieces before pouring the silicone over them so that couldn't have been the problem. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

    • @sweetcfmermaids1790

      Yes best thing to do is wipe your acrylic piece with a microfiber towel I get mines at dollar tree. Put your piece toward the light to see if there are any pieces of hairs and re-wipe. Definitely do not use paper towels on acrylic since that would scratch them.
