Man this made me chuckle at how amazingly simple and effective this paint job is ! Because I’ve been looking for video like this for a bit now thank you for this my friend you have made my life so much easier!
I’m so happy to hear that pal. I’ve even printed up a little army of these guys now. And there are other videos for them. Bigger models and all. Enjoy.
Great job, as always. I’m looking forward to the new HH releases. I’m strictly a hobby guy, I don’t play , but at the very least I’ll be buying a squad to paint one of each Legion. Glad to see I’m not the only one who uses a metallic undercoat for eyes. I originally did it with the gemstone paints, worked pretty well.
I've shared this video in a few different groups hoping it gets you more subscribers. This is honestly the BEST "quick" painting tutorial where you don't need 30 different paints to get a great quality model on the table. Also the best Sons of Horus painting video on UA-cam. Thank you for the video and look forward to whatever you tackle next
Awesome as always, I really enjoy seeing how the colors turn out, because it is always tricky to predict with contrast paints. Although I probably won't paint Sons of Horus, I might just use this scheme for my Drukhari!
JUST what I was looking for!!!! A speedpaint tutorial for Sons of Horus. I was just about to assemble this army. Edit: the head piece is simply called a crest.
I’ll admit I went into watching your video with a hefty dose of scepticism when the contrast paint was out. However, this is fantastic and one of the best tutorials on Sons of Horus I’ve seen. I’ve watched a few older videos from others and they aren’t half as good as yours. Top stuff mate 👍
Love your vids I'm new to warhammer and I'm gonna play 30k so I'll be using only your paint techniques because they are very good for beginners and non airbrush since I won't attempt that until I have basics down . Keep in up man nj
I think I’ll follow this mostly, but doing the armour first and giving it a drybrush of SoH green before doing the other details, a touch quicker than layering but hopefully will keep that nice tone!
@@MediocreHobbies so in the end I did the zenithal and contrast then a triple drybrush starting heavy to light of Lupercal, Sons of Horus and Syberite green. You should check out my black templar dreadnought video that mite help with bigger models. I am also doing some tanks in the near future so don’t worry.
The headdress is a Plume, it mostly dates back to Greek Hoplites with the ones going side to side denoting command. Roman Legates used them as well which is where the legion iconography probably derives it from.
Great video ! There is a thing I don’t understand though. The layering part with the Sons of Horus Layer, what are you supposed to do exactly ? Covers the middle of each piece without touching the recesses ? Thanks !
Love your videos man, they’re super helpful. Mind if I ask how you are using your paints? Like, are you using them right out of the pot or do you thin it out on a palette? I can never get my paints to go on smooth. They always have streaks.
@@MediocreHobbies fair do’s 🤣 I’ll just copy one of the 18th legions which are black maybe the dark angels I watched that and like the metallic black you did with them 👍 Nice work
Awesome video! curios what you would do to adapt this to large scale (vehicle/dread). Just watched your drybrushing a vehicle video and would love to use that technique for my SoH.
I am looking to assemble, then paint, the 2nd and 11th Legions. It's quite an undertaking, especially since I can and have been lazy in getting around to doing them.
Do you have a video on how you managed that prime stage? Or can you explain a little more in depth? I'm a complete noob and a dreadful painter but would love to try this!
There is indeed a video on that as well. But I shall try my best to explain. So you give the model and entire coat of black. Then your spray again with the lighter colour but you spray down on the model from above. Your trying to make the top parts of the model brighter and all the under parts darker. So when you contrast after it just adds to the effect.
I found your channel recently and I love all of your videos so far, you make all the schemes so simple yet they look so complex 10/10 my new favorite painting channel
I really like this technique for base coating. I'm finding the base coat process very boring using acrylics. Was considering getting a airbrush for this but contrast might be the way to go.
Try this: Open this video in a second browser side by side. Now pause the first video at exactly 4:56 and the second at exactly 10:20 and look at the difference. Ignoring the base, I think you could get nearly the same result by skipping the nuln oil/horus green and just shading the metallics and doing the eyes. For me I would just call that good to go.
You could be rite. But one of the main reasons I use an all over shade is to give the contrast a protective layer. I find it’s prone to rubbing off without this step. And I just find it easier and quicker for the rest of the parts like metallics.
@@MediocreHobbies I spray a Matt varnish between contrast and Metallic paints. You really should top coat any gaming piece that is going to be handled.
