I've been going from hobbyist to hobbyist on UA-cam trying to find a great yellow scheme for my Imperial Fists and so far I've found yours the most helpful and the easiest. Those extra paints didn't bother me and they give a good end result similar to what I've been getting with Flash Gitz Yellow from GW. I'll definitely be adding this to my HH play list where I am taking bits and bobs from various videos to formulate my own paint scheme. Thank you for the amazing video, you've just gained a new subscriber.
Looking good, and this one showed up in my subscription feed no problem. Working on Word Bearers myself, and really excited for the Horus Heresy box set. :)
No issues dipping into other paint lines to get the result you want. Especially when you go into the pros/cons of any given choice. If you did want to still help those who want to stick to whatever the primary line you are using is, maybe suggest a close substitute from the same paint line. That way they can seek out the more specific color if they want, or err on convenience/availability to their own tastes, but still follow along with the tutorials.
That looks really nice Andy. Thanks for the tips on the yellow and the weathering brush. I've never been able to get either to look right but I may just drop over to Underworld Games in Tallaght and see if they have thee weathering brush - last time I was in they had 2 full racks of Greeenstuff World product.
Tallaght has a game store now?!? You young punks have it way too easy. Back in my day we had to trapse all the way into town and go to Virgin Megastore... ... Which was like a single bus trip....in lighter traffic pre-tiger....and the stuff was waaayyy cheaper..... .. Forget what I was saying, we had it easy...
Great paint job! If one did have an airbrush, what would you change about painting up some imperial fists? I have some 40k guys I am going to paint up from the indomitus box
That’s a very broad question. If I’m being brutally honest o would say there are so so many painting tutorials where people airbrush imperial fists. Mite be easier to watch a few of those then have me try and explain it. Glad you liked the video.
I’ll be honest, I switched off a bit when you introduced that colour. I’ve no problem with mixing brands but it’s helpful for me if a tutorial video uses brands that I know I can access such as Citadel, Army Painter, Vallejo etc
I get that. And it’s one thing I’m hyper aware of. There are links to the pints below the video to make it as easy as possible. But this will be a very infrequent thing 99% of my videos will be standard brands.
The raptor imperialis would indicate that he fought in the Unification Wars. Found only on terran born members of the imperial fists, so indeed a veteran. Sigismund was terran born and wore a raptor imperialis on his knee pad.
Amazing video, thanks a lot for this! Looking forward to starting an imperial fist army and to paint it using the new imperial fist contrast paint. A quick question in this regard, what are your thoughts on the primer - worth trying this with the new white scar one or better to use grey seer or similar?
Hello. This has probably been asked but I can’t find the answer. Are you going to do an update to this scheme to incorporate the new Imperial Fists Contrast? I am now hesitant to start my MK VI marines as I want them to match the Leviathan Dread and not sure if this will work…
@@MediocreHobbies Thank you - I will crack on with them then. Keep up the good work mate - my painting is coming on leaps and bounds following this channel :)
What are you thoughts on applying contrast to power armor with an airbrush? I’m a new airbrush owner and not sure wether it’s a viable option or not for a nice result..
That looks great! Going from a brown or golden brown works great too but that seems to work better over black or grey primer. Never gotten a yellow this bright though. Really looking forward to seeing the Hataka paints aswell!
I’m honestly not planning on doing a whole lot of airbrushing on my channel. Trying to keep it accessible to all hobbyists . Glad you liked this video.
Love Hataka paints. I use their brush paint line for all my historical aircraft and vehicles. I'm going to check out their figure paint line. Yes, you're right, yellow is hard. Unless you use lacquer or enamel paint (even that requires some prep work!)
Yes I’m still working out how to do the video for there paints to show them in a really great light because like you I really like them. Except the taste lol
I need that weathering tool! I usually don't like just buying a single paint from a range, would you recommend a paint set they do? Or anywhere here in Ireland we can pick them up? Great video, going to use some of the techniques.
Yes they do two sets of model acrylic lines there the purple box’s. Check out there Instagram to see them. I don’t know anywhere in Ireland that stocks them sorry.
I love seeing all sorts of paints in videos. I use precious few citadel paints myself and mix and match across many paint lines. I quite like Citadel's Zandry Dust, but haven't tried their other yellows. Kimera's warm yellow looks quite similar to that new paint you were showing. Specific paints can be helpful when you're starting in the hobby, but at a certain point saying "a saturated pure warm yellow with good coverage" is enough. I'll use whatever I have that fits that bill. If you want to continue to be beginner friendly (which for sure is a worthy goal), giving an equivalent in Citadel and/or Vallejo can be helpful. (something like "If you don't have this, this other paint you might have is similar but I'm using this one because xyz")
He looks great. It doesn't bother me to use other brands of paint. I've got a few in the rotation already. I've got a couple of different Vallejo yellows I'm planning to try. Thanks for the video.
Use any paints you like, looks great. If I was going to say one thing, it can be helpful to offer close colour matches to citadel as one of the more widely available paints.
One of the simplest and yet vibrant and cool yellow paint schemes I've ever seen here
Wow that’s high praise thank you.
Who wouldn't be proud of looking that fresh
Hahaha cheers dude.

@@MediocreHobbies no worries - I’ve watched this video a dozen times as I get ready to paint my IF 30k army. Felt I should ping something back
Will have to paint up my Fafnir Rann using this method, great tutorial!
I’d love to see that.
Great work. If I go the Heresy route, this will be my legion for sure! Thanks for the amazing content

Hahahhahah
i use an airbrush for the yellow, i wanted a bright yellow for the imperial fist. So i use phalanx yellow air to paint them and they look good imo.
I’m sure they look great.
This is the method I will be using for my Imperial Fists force, I find this a very effective method/scheme. Thank you!

Looking forward to the next one 😀

Will you be doing a PT tutorial for the best Legion ever the iron Warriors
I will indeed be doing the arch enemy of the best legion ever.

It is indeed a viable option there is a great video from Squidmar on it. 100% recon and you check it out.

Will this scheme work with the marines in the age of darkness box set?
Of course. They will great in it.

Looks fantastic, I hope your going to do an Iron warriors guide with mk4 armour 😉
But of course.

Would this work on the vehicles as well.

If I don't have the hataka yellow, which yellow should I use?
Averland sunset and then a flash gitz would be my choice.

I have to do it by myself
Go for it. This one mite need a bit of tweaking now the new contacts is out.
undercoat them with white, and then spraypaint them yellow, do some black/ brown linning and do details
Tag my on one of those id love to see how they turn out.

I think you could simply not use the contrast yellow paint.
No you need to lay down your basecoats. At least I feel like you do.
