    in illustrator you can go to advanced settings in image trace and click "ignore white" and you won't have the white part of the vector. Very handy hack.

    Absolute quickest way to make vector from physical sketch: Adobe Capture (free app) add/take photo > Shapes (tweak settings if needed) tap bottom circle checkmark > Style (toggle Smooth) > finished. Takes under a minute for any image

      You do lose a lot of edit capabilities and customization. For a professional looking product you’re better off tracing and proceeding from there.

    I think you just helped me find my escape from my miserable 9-5 day job… I’ve always been a doodler, but I never took drawing serious. I never knew it was this easy to take a 1-3 inch drawing and make a digital illustration out of it. Seriously.. thank you so much! I’m now in the market for some good drawing classes, an iPad + Pencil, Adobe CC, and a cricut maker! Cheers to making 100% custom stickers 💪🏼😎💪🏼

    That was great. Thanks for sharing that - really learnt a lot. Never thought to blur and use threshold to get that effect. One thing I found recently that might save you a few clicks: Image Trace has an option where you can 'Ignore White' in the panel. This just traces the black and gives you a transparent background. Thanks Ray! Love your work.

    Crazy easy and helpful! Just used this method to vectorize comic-style lineart with heavy shadowing. For anyone whose lines still don't appear smooth enough in areas by the image trace step, Object-> Path-> Simplify is a good way to iron those out.

    Really great tutorial! I really enjoy using procreate for the flexibility but it misses the quality that Photoshop and Illustrator bring. Now I know how to incorporate all three into my work flow. Thank you so much!

    Thanks for the tutorial! Personally I tend to rather do things by hand rather than using a huge bulk of the software like the pen tool or cutting out shapes. It's not as perfect, but it leaves in the human aura.

  • @lynmeredith8405
    @lynmeredith8405 2 роки тому +3

    Ray, thank you for talking about your hacks. Love the gaussian blur added to digital line before taking it to image trace. This solves the exhaustive hunt for the smoothest vector brush issue.( I’ll do anything to avoid using the pen tool to draw! ) lol!!! Also thank you for the tip about skelly.

    Hi, great video, so helpful! I have a couple questions, 1) I don't have an ipad yet I only use my PC so no procreate. What would be the process from sketch directly to illustrator? How might I need to adjust the image trace settings in AI if I'm going directly from my sketch? After image trace would I then open it up in Photoshop to do the blur and threshold, then back to illustrator? 2) What type of file should you save as when done with the outline, keeping the background transparent, PNG? 3) If I can't afford a MAC and still use my PC, could I still get an iPad and use procreate, so what I'm asking is would that be a messy compatibility issue taking images from procreate into adobe CC on my PC? Is it worth the investment or should I just use what I have? This is for a business I'm creating- primarily t-shirt graphics- using print on demand 4) Do you have a video on how to fill in some color to your graphics after this process is done? If not could you make one? Thanks to anyone that could help me out with these answers!

    Hey there - I like your art & this method but was wondering if it might be easier to export as an SVG and then airdrop and go straight to Illustrator to start adding in colors if necessary? Would that work? I know you put it in photoshop to clean it up how you like it but I would think to get it vectorized first and then clean it up unless I'm thinking of it a different way Hahaha

    So, this wasn't literally a conversion using software to convert a pencil sketch into a vector graphic. You still had to re-draw/trace over the original sketch. (I thought this would show software, like Illustrator, to vectorize.)

What software should I use to scan it in with a very high resolution in order for me to prepare the drawing for applying color to it in different colorways. the artwork was drawn on a 15x24 piece of paper.
