    Its even cooler then you think. During the end of the first game the red moon was in the sky getting closer and closer you could see it if you looked up. If you logged out at an inn you would start the game with you having a nightmare. They did all sorts of crazy story things like a cult that worshipped the red moon. One of the best “were sorry , let’s all take a step back and try this again” moments in all of gaming. Everyone talks about no man’s sky and cyberpunk for greatest gaming comeback stories , and don’t get me wrong I love those games and respect their devs …..but this….ffxiv ….this is the KING of comebacks forever . To go from where 1.0 was at to now being the most played mmo in the world with universal acclaim is absolutely phenomenal. These devs REALLY give a fuck and it shows even to this day .

    That was the lesser moon "Dalamud". The garleans used magitek to bring it down as a weapon of war but unknown to them, it was an ancient prison for the dragon primal bahamut.
    The story played out through 1.0 and this cutscene is the last thing the player base seen before the world was destroyed and the servers were shut down.

    • @EmberwindTale
      @EmberwindTale Рік тому +10

      @@alaaesong164 yeah they try to offer a bit of explanation of what happened in the main story because they didn't want new players to feel alienated and confused but you really can't grasp the full context unless you were a 1.0 player. We had to unite the three Grand Companies together and prepare them for war against Garlemald while simultaneously slaying the Beast Tribes "Gods" (primals) and work to stop Nael van Darnus from calling down Dalamud, which quite obviously we failed and the outcome was inevitable. This is how they closed down the 1.0 client of XIV to make way for ARR.

    I would HIGHLY recommend watching the 3 part series "Final Fantasy XIV Documentary". It goes into Final Fantasy XIV 1.0 launch and failure and into how Yoshi-P brought the game and the company back from the brink. Altogether it's 2-3 hours long but it gives you insight on how the game was made, failed, and then brought back into what it is today.
    EDIT: Also gotta love all the commenters throwing spoilers left and right. Let the man find out the story for himself. I get you're excited but please use some restraint.

    As i'm sure it's already been said that the realm was reborn in a way that players who were there in 1.0 would still see connections and traces of the world before Bahumut's Calamity but new players/adventurers wouldn't feel cut off from the story being told because they weren't there.
    The crazy thing is when you beat 2.0 they have a credit sequence that lists all the people who had stayed subbed to 1.0 FF forever immortalized in the game and there's a special cutscene where the leaders recognize you as the original warrior of light from this cutscene.

  • @KyrialArthian
    @KyrialArthian Рік тому +1

    You'll constantly hear NPCs telling you about the "Calamity" 5 years ago (especially in the beginning of the game) - this was that Calamity. Dalamud crashing down and Bahamut blowing everything up. That old man (Louisoix, the grandfather of Alphinaud and Alisaie) sent the Warriors of Light (aka the cutscene stand-ins for the players of the game) forward in time 5 years, to where the realm has recovered somewhat from the attack. So it's not a whole new world, just one that's had some time to recover.

      @@TheHeroOfLight it depends on what you like to do in game: do you like the game play and want to try a very hard set of raids? Grab a crew and do the raids, they're old but very good. You only want the story? Grab a max level player and run the raids unsynched, so you don't bother with the fight. Are you only looking for content? Watch the video and react to it, though you might lose some context (which the community will happily provide here, as you no doubt noticed).
      Hell, if you don't mind reacting to very long videos, there's an amazing documentary by Noclip about the making and remaking of the game, which gives a lot of context to the story.

    There's actually a part 2 to this cinematic that shows what happened at the battle after the heroes are teleported into the future. It's a cinematic that shows up near the end of the Coils of Bahamut raid series (ARR's 8 man raid set, the one that for some reason isn't included in any Daily Roulette).
    However, you don't need to do the raid to see it. You can find it on UA-cam and there are even some videos that stitch the Opening Cinematic and the sequel together into one seemless whole.

    • @nahuel3433
      @nahuel3433 Рік тому +1

      Watching that cinematic outside of the game is the worse way to do it because a lot of the explanation given on why what happened in that fight happened is given in other cutscenes of the raid.
      It's better to have a max level person carry you through the raid. It's easy to solo it all.

    • @uhsieh
      @uhsieh Рік тому +1

      The reason why it was not included in the daily roulette is because there is no "normal" version of Coils. The raids as we know it is at Savage (Hard Core) Difficulty. Imaging getting a savage raid in your daily roulette :D
      Edit: Yes, there is a Savage second coils, but that's more like the dev cheating and throwing everything at the players.

    • @Cellybeans
      @Cellybeans Рік тому

      Yeah don’t watch that cinematic unless you’ve gotten to it in the raids.

    • @SpecRose
      @SpecRose Рік тому

      @@uhsieh Yeah, stuff like this is largely because they hadn't quite figured out the endgame raid scene for FFXIV yet at the time. A direct result of them still figuring it out was all the cheese strats people came up with for the raids back in the day, and then those savage second coils were the devs looking at how people were cheesing it and going "Ok, no more of that." and making those forms of cheese impossible as they upped the difficulty.
      It is interesting to look back see how raids have evolved since than with normal and savage difficulties--even for a casual player who has never touched the savages. Though I have considered going and poking at some older ones, like last expacs, now that new current gear and all has made them just a bit easier to get a glimpse of what it's like.

    Bahamut was an elder primal, captured and imprisoned by the Allagan Empire. They believed that they could use Bahamut to harness the power of the sun. The prison was what you saw in the beginning, Dalamud, the lesser moon. No one knew that Bahamut was kept within, especially the Garleans.
    The Garleans wanted to crash Dalamud into the world to destroy it, which actually ties in with the ARR story and the Ascians.
    Welcome to Eorzea, Warrior of Light!

    I don't know how far into the game you are, so I will avoid spoilers unlike other certain commenters.
    When you arrived into your starting city, it has been 5 years since the Calamity, which is what they refer to as when talking about Bahamut's attack. You can see remnants of the aftermath pretty much everywhere you go due to the destruction being that widespread.
    There is also a short story video that you can watch that is narrated by Louisoix himself that is spoiler-free as far as ARR is concerned which tells the story of what led up to that cinematic. Here:
    ua-cam.com/video/TXc0loyuq9I/v-deo.html
    Once you've beaten ARR 2.0, you will be able to go and find out the truth behind the Calamity. There are spoilers in this quest, so I will speak no more.

    it was probably said but when 1.0 ended, this cutscene played for the players. yeah you heard me. they ENDED 1.0 with this.
    well.. until 5:31
    not only that it was also 1.0's final storyline, trying to stop the moon from coming down... and failing. players were gathered at games end, looking at the moon, waiting for it to end.
    en general is the entire transition from 1.0 to arr a very interesting story you should look into

    I've never seen any of your stuff, so I don't know if you play FF14, but if you do... You NEED to play through the ARR raid Coils of Bahamut. You can get through most of it solo unsynched on a higher lvl character, and people will often help get through the parts where you need more bodies in you post a party finder group up saying you want to get through the story. It goes into the backstory of what happened there, and has a hidden second half of that video telling the real ending, that no one knew about because by then they were all either dead or had fled the devastation.

    Bahamat didn't destroy everything, but he fucked up a alot of stuff and basically had the effect of a super massive eruption and earthquake on the land, causing there to be new landmarks and crazy scars all over that part of the land. He goes dormant shortly after the magic guy sends the group (of players) 5 years into the future.

    The world isn't exactly new and untouched. There are areas of Eorzea that are severely damaged and tainted with corrupt aether, as well as pieces of dalamud scattered about. Something mysterious happened that undid most of the destruction caused by bahamut, but it also caused amnesia in a massive scale.

    Welcome to FF14, keep that song in the back of your mind, it will NOT be the last time you hear it throughout the game; and each time you do, it takes on greater and greater meaning. FF14 at 1.0 launch is was a colossal failure. The game play was slow, the engine too resource demanding, and the reception colder than a Coerthan winter. The game nearly bankrupted the company. Then they brought in a guy with ZERO MMO game development experience to come in to save it; and save it he did. YoshiP streamlined the game, improved the gameplay, and made the failure part of the lore for the game.

    All right, story of Dalamud:
    Millennia ago, a dragon named Midardsormr escaped from his home planet as it was being invaded by robots. He brought seven eggs with him, and landed on the planet/star known as Hydaelyn. His eggs hatched and the dragons were named Hraesvelgr, Nidhogg, Ratatoskr, Bahamut, Tiamat, Azdaja, and Vrtra. For this story in particular, we're looking at Bahamut and Tiamat.
    They settled in a land known as Meracydia, had broods of their own, and lived in relative peace with the people. Then, about 5000 in the past from current events, the Allagan Empire rose, conquering most of the known world and gaining what power they could find. One of the greatest means of power was in the summoned beings known as primals. So with information provided to them by the villainous ascians, they captured and slew Bahamut. This enraged Tiamat, who summoned her lost consort in the form of a primal. All according to the Allagan's evil plans. They imprisoned this primal Bahamut (along with a number of his descendants who sustained him with worship) in a giant sphere and launched it into the sky.
    This prison became known as the lesser moon Dalamud. Its purpose was to absorb the energy of the sun and transmit it down to a tower made of crystal on the planet, so Allagan technology would have an unlimited supply of energy. This is why when the Garleans brought it crashing down, it unleashed this primal Bahamut, who was very very angry.
    Additional lore: the Eorzean goddess of the moon and of love, Menphina, had her lore adapted after Dalamud was launched, saying this lesser moon was her faithful hound.

    Dood. You missed ALOT. FF14 1.0 was really bad, like 1 out of 10. A Realm Reborn 2.0 was 6/10, heavensward 3.0 8/10, stormblood 4.0 7/10, shadowbringers 5.0 10/10 but then endwalker gave all 1.0 through 5.0 a -2 because Endwalker broke it all and is the new 10/10. xD

    Bro, if you get the chance, watch "Flames of Truth"; it shows what happens right after that fade to white w/ Louisoix Leveilleur, the old dude you saw.
    Back during 1.0 FFXIV, the very last in-game event was a story about the player (you) and the Scions trying to stop the Garlean Empire from completing the Meteor Project, which was their superweapon project to attack the Eorzean Alliance by summoning the lesser moon - Dalamud - and threaten to drop it on them.
    What most folks didn't know was that Dalamud was actually an ancient prison of the old Allagan Empire, constructed to contain and syphon off the power of one of the greatest Primals known: Bahamut. During the project, the lead researcher wound up 'tempered' by Bahamut's power, meaning he was basically a slave to a god at this point, and wanted nothing more than to free their master. That resulted in Dalamud being brought down and sabotaged in such a way that Bahamut could break free.
