Turning Old Jewelry into a Pure Gold Bar 10oz 24K

  • What do you do with older family heirlooms that are out of style or just never worn? Often, these old pieces are cherished but tend to sit unused and underappreciated. I very much enjoy recreating these pieces into something new for families to appreciate.
    I chemically refine the karat gold into pure gold and pour it into beautiful new Lithic Gold Bars. New treasure that continues to carry the sentimental value the family holds so dear.

      I feel you. Wasting useful objects, easily worn, easily transported, easily shifted through checkpoints - to turn them into an ugly bar. These recyclers are actually calling themselves 'gold bar artists' now. So we're going to see a whole lot more history destroyed as people want ugly bars rather than beautiful minted bars from professional mints that are recognized the world over. I don't see pour stains as "art", and I don't see a rectangle as "something the whole family can enjoy" compared to jewelry with history, a story, etc. It's a damned shame, that is for sure.

      Its an extremely common coin

    • @crli4353

      @@zee-fr5kw Doesn't matter, the condition was fine enough to command a nice premium over spot and would be far more easy to sell then the refined bar made from it. That said, every time one is refined, its one more out of existence which increases its rarity, if only by a bit. To those of us holding on to them, thats great.

    Is gold really worth it to buy currently ? In terms of the short term considering taxes and overall cost of upfront purchase then trying to resell when I actually need the liquidity, is physical or gold stocks more worth the cost ? Because it seems to be when people speak of gold their not being specific to the short term or Long term approach to justifying the purchase. Let me know your thoughts , thanks anyone.

      Gold is often seen as a safe-haven asset that can protect against inflation and economic uncertainty. But like any investment, it carries risks. To determine if gold is the right investment option for you, an investment advisor can help you weigh the potential benefits and risks of investing in gold. They can also help you create a well-diversified portfolio that includes gold as part of a broader investment strategy. An investment advisor can help you decide how much of your portfolio should be allocated to gold and select other investments that can complement your gold holdings.

      In my opinion, holding physical precious metals is a preservation of wealth. Held best as a long-term asset. And, anyone who is considering holding a large amount of precious metals should be established within a trusted precious metals community. One last piece of advice... never ever sell for below spot price. Thanks for watching! 😁

      Not to take anything away from OP but; A jeweler won't reduce jewels (and historic coins) to bars, to other jewels perhaps, but not bars. This is scrap recycling, not jewelry making. A metallurgist is an entirely different career and field. And they definitely aren't playing with gold, it's mostly steel (the steel industry is a huge employer and are crazy obsessive when it comes to purity and alloys, etc - way out of my wheel house and quite a complicated field if you're bored and feel like reading up on it).

    • @jimmanison
      @jimmanison 8 місяців тому

      @@dr.lexwinter8604 Nothing taken away at all honestly, though perhaps I would say my naming conventions aren't wholly accurate. It's a fully sci-fi/fiction setting, and I borrowed the term "Jeweller" from Goldfinger. Particularly the point where during the briefing with M & Bond, and I quote "Apart from being a legitimate international bullion dealer, Mr. Goldfinger is a legitimate international jeweler. He's legally entitled to operate modest metallurgical installations.". So perhaps if anything, I need to refine my definition of what my character is. So I appreciate you pointing it out 🙂

    Going through the aqua regia step twice to make absolutely sure you can stamp it .999 is a nice touch. I hope you eventually get an autoclave that can go to 1100C and do controlled cool-down. The pour ripples are a nice artistic touch, but a bar which is a perfect mirror shine on all sides is it's own kind of gorgeous that would also be nice to offer customers. Getting the stamping right on one of those, though, must be doubly nerve wrecking.

    Very interesting. What do you do with all the spent chemicals? Seems like a big concern. And are they expensive to buy?

    You mention studying for at least two years before getting to this level. I'm just curious if you have any favorite books that you read when you first started getting into this craft? Beautiful work by the way. I look forward to owning a piece of Lithic history myself. 😁

      Thanks so much. I'd love to pour you a bar whenever you're ready. I started by reading CM Hoke's book "available online as pdf", plus the goldrefiningforum.com is a great resource.

    Wonderful, thank you for the explanation. This video really shows the complexity of being able to transform old jewelry into ingots. I have subscribed and I will follow your videos with interest. Best wishes, Victor (Luxembourg - Europe)

    Thank you for this video. I'm preparing for my first batch. I was wondering if for future reference would you be able to do a video possibly on white gold. Is it a different process to refine back into pure?

    What do you do with the leftover gold? Return it to the customer?

    • @LithicMetals
      @LithicMetals  10 місяців тому +2

      My fee comes out of it, and any remaining gold can be created into another piece, or I can send it back as fine grain. 😁
