Great tips, Taz! This is one of my favorite tools and has saved me so much time applying decals. I do mine a little different…I use a little more water in the with the pad and skip the dipping. I just cut them out and stick them right on the wet pad. I also use my tweezers to pick the decals up off the paper and apply them directly to the model. This has worked well for me. For really large decals, I do pick the paper up and use a stick to move them onto the model, but smaller ones work fine the other way. Thanks for the awesome content!!

Nice tips. I'll have to try the at home wet palette. I have found cotton gun cleaning swabs to be pretty nice too. Nicely wound and you can get long ones with different tips on the ends.

Thank you for this! lol I just finished decaling my RX78-2 v3 last night and the decaling took long as always, and the technique with the wet pallet will for sure help with my decaling in the future. I also like your idea with the meat skewer! I can totally see having more control over the decal with it >.> sometimes the decal rips when I use the toothpick and I am left with having to piece it together on the piece very carefully lol. Thanks for this video, surprised you didn't use an adhesive or anything when you were applying the decals. Have a plastic container and I hope a melamine sponge will do the trick because I bought a bunch of them for getting a matte finish also really nice looking clamp for holding your parts

To answer your question about not using any sort of adhesive. I usually do all my decals for the part and seal it in with topcoat later. I haven't had issues with decals drying and flaking off even after a few days, but drier climates may require something in the interim. Best of luck on your homemade wet palette!

Hi, so im a Beginner in Gunpla world, i just finished 1 of the 2 model kits that was given to me (not by choice), which is a RG and a MG, and after finishing my RG kit, i started researching about my MG kit and realized that Water Slide Decal is a thing and i am infact nervous about applying the decals to it.
Is there some kind of practice decal kits i could buy to get used to them?
If there was, id really appreciate it someone could link one, if there isn’t id really like to get really great advise, like do i require the finish after applying the decal, or do you recommend applying the decal before fully building the kit, or should i invest in other kits with smaller amount of WS decals before trying to deal with a full page decals.
I trully appreciate any help, as a beginner in the community.
Yes you can buy separate water slide decal sheets. I don't know where you are from so where you buy them is up to you. Amazon prices for Gunpla are not good at least in the US so try a hobby store. I only recommend buying the Bandai brand water slide decal sheets. They come in 1/144 (RG/HG) or 1/100 (MG) depending on the size of your model kit.
My tip would be to try using warm water for soaking the decals. I forget who mentioned it but it just seems to make everything go a bit smoother.

the problem with warm water is that it stops being warm 5 minutes later
unless you place it on some heater that keeps the temperature or something
where can I buy that wet pallet? I tried finding it on Amazon but don't see it. does it come with the sponge shown in your video? I apply small decals to 1/64th scale slot cars and this looks like it could be helpful, I often soak them too long and they float which every now and then costs me a decal as it folds on itself before I can get it to lay on the model. not often, but enough to be something I want to avoid if possible and this looks like a great way to get all the decals setup and ready to go faster, love it.
Hey there! Thank you much for the comment! You can purchase one of these wet palettes from Midwest Hobby and Craft, but as of right now, they're out of stock. You can still make one just like how I describe in the video and it will still work, but if you would rather just purchase a wet palette, you can also look for ones like Masterson Sta Wet Palette. Hey dude! Great question. It usually depends on the decals I get. For the brands like Delpi. I like following the recommendations, but for brands like G-Rework, I am happy to do my own thing.

any idea how to remove a waterslide that has been applied already?
Hey Ernest, great question. If the decal is fresh, say you just rolled it out and you need to adjust it, you can dip your skewer in water and spread it out over the decal. You don't need too much, just enough to spread over the decal. Once you've got it wet, gently push at one edge until it starts to peel up, then slowly slide your skewer underneath until it separates from the piece. If it gets suck, don't force it, just get the skewer wet and try again. Once the piece is separated. You can put it back onto a decal sheet, but try to get it replied quickly to avoid making the decal too weak.
If you've already decal set or top-coated the decal, then you're kinda stuck just lightly scratching it off with your skewer. But to be honest, you probably won't be able to salvage it. 😆

Is there a chance that the adhesive will dissolve if I leave the decals in the palette for too long?
Hey, great question! Like leaving it submerged for too long, it CAN weaken the decal, but if you have decal setter, then you only need to worry that the decal might be a bit more delicate.
Overall I think you should be okay for a few hours, but I'd try to clear the pallete within a day because as much adhesive is washing OUT of the decal is the amount of adhesive going into your wet palette. Hope this helps and I wish you the best of luck!

Hi can I use chamois instead of cellulose sponge?
Hey, great question! I honestly am not sure, but the properties that are most important are that it retains water well and the surface is even to allow water to cross the parchment paper evenly. If it's able to do that, I think it'll work. Hope this helps and best of luck!
