I live in the midwest Indianapolis Indiana we have some cold winters also want to know can I put this plant in a big pot. Instead of just putting it in the ground that way I can put it. Hi up so maybe the squirrels cannot get to. So do you think it can survive here in the Midwest. 🙆🏽♀️
@perryrice4149 Hi thanks so much for watching! Looks like your in zone 5b or 6a so this definitely not a plant you want outside in the winter. You’ll definitely need to bring it indoors until it’s warm again. A big pot would be fine just make sure it’s wide vs deep. The root system grows left and right vs downward. Warm wishes to you and your for the holidays❣️
Ha! I do absolutely nothing to my Plants in the winter 🤣 I just chop the ugly and wat for the new. 😩 I love growing this plant. My husband just threw it out because he wanted the pot it was in and it's bigger and more beautiful every year. Thanks for sharing this amazing plant SoilSista... On to the next 💃🏾
Thank you! I loved how detailed you are in your instructions. ❤️ Also, please do a video about how to save the actual shampoo for future use once squeezing it from the cones if not using right away. Thanks so much!
Hi Cathy! Thank you so much I appreciate you❣️ So the best thing to do is harvest the liquid fresh from the plant as needed. It will actually “refill” itself after about an hour or two. The liquid isn’t shelf stable at all. You can refrigerate it but you’ll only get a week out of it before it goes bad. Thankfully it’s perennial so you’ll be able to enjoy it each season 🥰
Sam, thanks 😊 for the information. She is one of my favorite plants. Outstanding beauty. Know wonder you received 6000 views... CONGRATS LOVE 💕 ! I tried to purchase one this year, too late. But, next year is on! Talk soon...
I can not wait to get this going! I am so excited, and thank you for the awesome tips! I already have a rizome, I was just wondering how I needed to keep it over the winter! Thank you so much! 🙏❤️
I separated my rhizome because the pot I had it in didn't l grow any cones.I have 2 new plants. I planted them in the ground. Cones grew this year. Enjoy your Shampoo ginger
Hi I have a question ! I’m a beginner, When you planted into the ground did you mix compost and potting mix or did you just make a 2” deep hole and cover it ??
I'm thrilled to find a gardener in my zone! I've been growing culinary ginger this year in containers. Pots come inside over winter. I just received my first shampoo ginger rhizomes. I think they might grow but how hard will it be to get then to flower? I'll find out! Good luck to you also!
I just got some rhizomes, I have no idea what I'm doing, and I'm so excited! This video is PERFECT. The only thing my dumb butt doesn't know is if I water it over the winter, just keep the soil mildly damp...? Mist it?
Hi Mimi❣️ So exciting to hear that your gonna grow this plant! Your question isn’t dumb at all that’s how we learn together 💪🏽 Plant your rhizomes in moist soil and keep them warm, in about 2 weeks you should see some sprouts. If the soil starts drying out you can water it again and keep it going till the shoots are big and tall. Happy Growing and thanks so much for watching 🥰
Im zone 8a and just received my rhizomes...super excited !!!...it doesn't start getting chilly until around November , do you think it has time to establish enough to overwinter outside here ? Or should I take some overwintering precautions until it is more grown
Hi 👋🏽 It can take temps down to 30 degrees so if your winters are mild you’ll be okay leaving them outside with mulch but if the temps dip down lower for a few days you’ll want to dig them up and store them indoors. Thanks so much for watching❣️
Hi 👋🏽 It took on a lot of growth this year! If it’s small enough to bring indoors that’s my preference. Otherwise I would definitely mulch it Thanks so much for watching❣️
Would it be possible to force them into dormancy by cutting off all the foliage and bringing them inside? I’d rather just store the rhizomes through the winter but I’m not sure if it can survive
Hi Alia! No it’s different but in the same family. Plant wise they look pretty much the same but the difference is in the rhizomes (the roots) Culinary ginger rhizomes are much larger than the shampoo ginger rhizomes. Thanks so much for watching❣️

The squirrels attack. 😂 I wonder if they don't like the fragrance. I just got some to start and they have a cinnamon and ginger aroma.
Wow.... Veru exiting, you give +6.000 viewer for one videos, congrat👋👋👋👋
I’m really excited about that 🤩 Thanks so much Suherman❣️
I wonder why the squirrels preferred it so much. Either way, it made a nice comeback. Thanks for the information.

That's what happened to mine! Squirrels or chipmunks dug up some of the rhizomes.
Im going to get this plant xoxo
Yasss Lydia go getcha one 🤗
What are the temperature there like?
Thanks for the vid, how did it go this year? do you recommend mulching over digging them up?

Have you got the flowers yet
I have shampoo ginger and have never had squirrels eat it. Live next to a nature trail.
It was the craziest thing! For some reason they were just not a fan of it 🤣 Thanks so much for watching❣️
Peace Be Unto You
May I transplant my plane ginger the same way?
Absolutely you can❣️
Have you used your ginger shampoo yet
Is this shampoo Ginger the same as the Ginger eating plant
Hi Alia!
No it’s different but in the same family. Plant wise they look pretty much the same but the difference is in the rhizomes (the roots) Culinary ginger rhizomes are much larger than the shampoo ginger rhizomes. Thanks so much for watching❣️
I find squirrels very annoying and the dogs agree!
*👍супер и привет от тренера по футболу!!*
Thank you 😊
I recommend you look into fortified shampoo for fast hair growth.
Cool
All that talk for NOTHING!!
