I am a VTuber but I figured everyone watching would rather see the actual gameplay than me, so I have hidden myself for this video. APOLOGIES FOR THE SCUFFED AUDIO! I am a streamer so my audio balance for this video is not great for this video, hence the captions at the start when the BGM is quite loud! I've never done a preview video like this so I apologise if it isn't very good!
As for the game - Isabella has one of the most ridiculous start position biases I've ever seen. If you want easy wins, pick her! The bug involving not getting the gold from discovering wonders was fixed after I recorded this, so even without that I was still able to dominate.
Great video - love your style! That wonder start is nuts...!
Woah! It's a wild Ursa... Huzzah!
IMO one of the best preview videos so far, because it’s actually gameplay and someone who clearly put thought into her strategy. You explain your thought process very well too. Definitely gained a sub from this.
The devs: we dont want snowballing.
Clio: i spawned next to a 4-tile natural wonder as isabella and never looked back from there
She has a natural wonder bias. So it's built-in to her racial bonus.
It would be pretty shitty if other leaders got bonuses but she would be screwed if she didn't get a natural wonder (which would be 90% of the time without a bias).
I saw a video where someone snowballed food gains so hard it actually broke the game.
@@Vexal50 I saw it too, dude reached like 23, 26 pop and it stopped growing cause it showed he'll need over -1000 food to grow xD
Yes stacking modifiers is still/again super broken - marbozir just did a similar video with insane culture per turn
An edited video and not a vod in this economy?
how many scouts should i make? Clio: yes
Very much enjoyed this video! It’s nice to watch a playthrough by someone really good at the game already to get a sense of the best parts of the game 🙏🏼
I am a retired meteorologist, and taught severe weather analysis and forecasting for many years. A "Squall" is a sudden doubling of the winds, exceeding 25 knots. This is produced by the outrushing/downrushing air from a mature thunderstorm. Here in the central part of the US, winds of up to 80 miles an hour, associated with severe convective storms are common. I have seen MANY tornadoes, and squall lines. The development of a LINE of storms are normally associated with a cold front, where cold, dense air forces warmer, more unstable air aloft, rapidly.
Burst out laughing at half of Rome being conquered by a city state 😂
Is Rome outright gone after the age transition removed all the independent powers? It kinda looks like it is 😅
@ that’s what I noticed too. That’s so funny LOL
@ they actually completely razed it!
@ that’s TERRIFYING after being so used to an immortal capital that citystates couldn’t touch in VI 😂
So glad i found this video. Really like your style and hope to see more civ 7 from you! Thanks for the entertainment!
I really enjoyed the commentary and style of play! Would love to see more videos of you in youtube 😁
Came from Reddit :) thanks for posting
17:15 I think the small rivers need to be settled on top of to give you fresh water, but navigable rivers, oasis and lakes still give it to adjacent tiles (i guess because its a big enough body of water that it reaches the edge of the tile its on). Also Ben Franklin being hyper aggressive wouldn’t surprise me because Australia always rushes me in civ 6, for some reason.
28:10 Im 90% sure the reason Ben Franklin is hyper-aggressive is that he loves science too much.
Hear me out, His leadership disposition is to dislike other people who are not the same government / Celebration type.
He probably always picks the science / military option which most people avoid, which makes him mad at you.
Most people pick food/production for buildings or cultures/production for wonder celebrations.
(un)surprisingly, this also incentivises him to build soldiers during celebrations and have larger armies.
22:53
And what do you do when you have a larger army than the neighbour who disrespects you by killing your independent people?
Great video ;)
Gotta love 2 free natural wonder starts.
And that yields after the eruptions were glorious.
So awesome to see you go off and get that Civ 7 preview, Clio! Thanks for the wonderful gameplay and commentary!
Woah, one of the best civ 7 videos so far, love seeing a fellow history buff play civ!
I was worried no one was going to make an Isabella video -- and on diety. What a day.
First time watcher, long time Civ fan. I really enjoyed this play through. Many thanks for putting it together. Subscribed 👍
This is the most "expert player" preview video I've seen so far. Like the most "ok they know what they're doing here" even though everyone's still getting used to things, both players and viewers alike.
She went with a 4 scout start... Is this the only video of civ you've ever watched?
OMG, those yields of the Valley of Flowers. They’re beautiful.
I love that stacking all the bonuses you can still doesnt out produce a volcanic field of flowers tended by a nature enthusiast
Nicely done - actually amazing given you don’t “do this very often” as you just noted in your final comments before sign off! I enjoyed your play through and commentary - definitely a different “touch” than the other Civ7 vids I’ve seen so far - again well done! From my side, I’ve played every Civ game since it came out in 1991 and have gotten used to the massive changes that have been introduced in every new version but particularly since Civ4. I think it’s amazing that the earlier versions are still so much fun to play! I can’t wait to play Civ7 too!
(meets Ben Franklin who gives a diplomatic yet friendly greeting)
Clio: Yeah, he's been very bloodthirsty in my other games
(meets Amina who hurls threats and spits on face)
Clio: She's actually a very sweet neighbour
Hahaha i thought the same thing 😂
This video was an excellent mix of the Clio experience. Lots of explaining and teaching, plenty of little humor drops and casual flexes, and no one one-guying. It's almost like the old days again. XD
Truly though, great video, and a nice bit of editing in the beginning there. Anyone who skips it is missing out.
Thanks for putting this together Clio! (Yes, I know it wasn't just for funsies, but still, it was fun and useful, so thanks!)
First playthrough I watch with this many scouts, and considering the size of that landmass, it was a pretty good choice. I presume it was the biggest map size.
Great video, I hope to see more of civ 7 on your channel soon :)
Hello, i am french and i find this vidéo relaxing, you don't cry like others when you speak, nice one !
Really enjoyed this preview and the way you explain things!
Great video, this was some of the most gameplay focused I've seen so far!
I won't be able to shake that impression of Ben Franklin as the bloodthirsty maniac of this game. Great video!
I've watched over 30 hours of Civ 7 preview content. This is easily the best video so far.
5:39 it’s a real place?!?!
7:21 I c that happiness has returned…. (Welp, time to play on lower difficulties🤷🏾♂️)
16:49 city-states ACTUALLY live up to their name, at least when they start out! 😅
24:56 AH! Lotty jumpscare!
38:43 “unpack army” (is this a new feature?)
53:37 City-States being removed from the map if their suzerain is defeated is an odd mechanic….
Mmm, I feel like changing into a new Civ would make more sense if it was determined by the geography of the land you’ve discovered/settled🗺️; seeing majority desert should force you to pick desert Civs or jungle with jungle Civs. (making scouts paramount for the best options early game, thus making them more useful!)
Overall, love the preview Clio! I wouldn’t mind seeing one or two more videos about the game!👍🏾
It's so beautiful you are also an history professor, I hope to listen to some historical contents when proper (I always wandered if them could help for a strategy in the game). The antropological soul of Civilization is what makes it the game I love.
I advice you, if its possibile, to plan the cities development on the map with pings (or just tell it thoughout the run) in order to keep track of your intentions because I don't manage to "read the map" as well as in civ 6.
Personally, you are welcome in the community!
This video made me get the deluxe version. Haven’t bought a day one game in forever but love Civ.
Hi,
Must say I haven't seen much in any video to encourage me in thinking that the A.I's can defend themselves or employ tactics better than the last iteration. Those settlers wandering around during your war was just insane...one the one you attacked died I sighed with relief as at least it doesn't appear that players can capture them to get ahead as always seemed to happen in Civ VI.
Thanks for this descriptive style of video.
Cheers.
Really great video, thanks! I wouldn’t call it scuffed in the least
46:17 you can see on the tooltip it lists the Cho ko nu on the city tile at the bottom
1:03:25 If you press the sheet of paper looking button by the yields at the top you can see what buildings are in a city.
Was a little disappointed you didn’t build any great people as Greece (or at least didn’t show them), but no biggie :)
@@S23K I did but it got edited out, they're not exactly the most exciting things (some influence/culture/happiness buffs in Athens, one of them gives 2 Hoplites)
Great preview, really gives you a sense of how the game flows, thx!
Very nice video, hope you continue doing more!
I've enjoyed your gameplay of Civ 7 the most. I look forward to watching more of your content.
My favorite preview so far. Can’t wait to play.
As an aussie I legally have to follow local content creators. Thankfully, you've made that very easy with this video. Great work!
I now want to buy Civ 7 because of Clio Aite, perhaps even the MOST EXPENSIVE EDITION due to CLIO AITE and her WONDERFUL CIV 7 VIDEO.
As an American, we already knew about Ben's "Rules For Reducing a Great Empire to a Small One." In modern language, it's very low tone, but for the time, talking to the presumed ruler of his homeland, this was badass. Basicly he said that what England was doing was exactly what a sensible and intelligent ruler would do to shrink hs kingdom.
He's the new Gandhi with nukes.
I was looking for some more info about civ 7.
Glad to see Clio get into it
Thanks, this was really good. I come away with a much clearer sense of gameplay. (Could only be improved if you had allowed your pup on camera)
hope you do more videos like this in the future!!
Please do more Civ 7 videos upon release! You're commentary is very chill and comforting! And awesome to know that you also have a background in history! Only criticism I have is can you have your voice a bit more louder? Overall, looking forward to more of your Civ 7 playthroughs!
I like that the I.A was helping you in the fight agains Benjamin.
Loved the video, well explained thought process. Might have to follow to twitch!
I like the crisis dynamic. Forces a game reboot in the new age. History is replete with expansion / contraction. The game captures that.
All these boys putting all their army commander points into the assault and bastion trees and you go three straight logistics promotions. I love women. Logistics win wars. Cannot hit the subscribe button fast enough
Good stuff. I'm looking forward to playing.
Great video, subscribed. Either you made it look easier than it is or the deity AI looks a bit weak. Otherwise, game looks great, looking forward to it!
I was very cautious about this game earlier, but after seeing more content from it, I'm getting more and more interested in it.
omg u r so cool! gained a new follower
Just a note, since you can only pick one Golden Age if you wanted to take Silk Roads you would've been locked out of the cultural golden age anyway, even if you had Amphitheaters everywhere. You still get the extra points that you can allocate for that of course, but there's only one Golden Age per era transition as I understand it.
Points earned on legacy paths throughout the game apparently help with the final victory condition at the end of the third age. They might be a bonus to production of the final great project or something, I have no idea. I don't recall them going in much detail on the live stream but then I might have missed it.
"do nothing which is of no use" is painfully clarifying when watching youtube
Most videos i've watched on civ 7 so far skipped the quote, so the voiceover just says "do nothing" full stop lol
Great video love the editing
I think you have inspired me to try playing with natural disasters cranked to max. I've always been too afraid before.
Right up there with Potato, IMO. A borked start is a help, but this would be good even without that!
Best preview so far! I'm worried about Deity AI...
How did they think giving a leader a wonder-start bias was balanced was nuts. Good Gameplay btw.
I am watching you on the youtubes!
This game is look so much fun!!! I am much excite :))
This might be the comfiest civ7 prerelease playthrough yt has recommended to me. Everyone else has been very shilly and fake persona-y. It's nice to see normal gameplay from a normal personality for a change. Made me actually consider getting the game.
Great gameplay. Wow. Poor Ben
Scout, scout, scout, scout, scout annnnnnd scout.
Vision is important but... this has to be one of the worst cases of Fomo I have ever seen
My approach to the early game is that the potential rewards from goodie huts are much more valuable than the early 300 gold - getting more population (especially with wonder bias), science, culture, happiness, has more impact than spending 220 gold for the granary, or getting a hoplite - money not spent is resources not used!
Ty for video clio.
Great video!
It would be very funny if there was a bug with "modern" leaders where they got overly hostile in the antiquity age because their programming expected you to have modern age level stats.
Asking the expert here: I wonder if there might be a hidden pro-play in switching capital at age change. It looks to me that Athens had become pretty yield-oriented with the double natural wonder and also Petra tile yields. It would be a pity to overbuild these. Plus, the city is landlocked, which might be a huge disadvantage in the exploration concept needing ships and all. I wonder if making this city a specialized town would have provided an insane yield bonus to fast develop a new city like Ji, which is actually a coastal town suited for exploration age activities. I would love to hear your thoughts on this.
and thats on deity? man the ai seems to be weak without getting a butt load of extra units and settlers
+1hour of premium clio content lfg
Talking about how good Augustus pronounciation of a dead language is 🙃
why on earth would they hide the points?
did they just forget to add a tooltip somewhere? bizarre
15:58 Much like my philosophy when it comes to spiders
Great video Clio! Love the take down of Cassius Dio as well. Who do you think is more untrustworthy between him and Suetonius?
Probably Cassius Dio but when you work in classics you take and analyse anything you can get
How are you liking Civ-7 Clio?
There's a bunch I do like, including things I wasn't so excited about going into it (change to workers for example), but there are some other things that I'm not too into like the UI, or losing access to content in previous ages
@@ClioAite Im with you on that. The workers change is excellent.
The UI does feel a bit lacking in character, ESPECIALLY compared to CIV-V.
Day 1 mod, map tacks needed so bad.
I prefer it when long running series actually change things. If they didn't change, I may as well just play the old one.
very nice gameplay ✌️😉 thank you 🫶
1:00:56 but how are you gonna take the marble behind the mountains without inca 😔
VTuber who plays Civ?? subbed
6:55 Well that’s no entirely true. It would just involve a little math. You make 10 culture, so 45 Culture would advance your current civic study by 4 and a half turns.
The narrative choices seem a bit unbalanced to me from time to time. You get to chose between 2 turns of production or 3 turns of culture on one side versus 10+ turns of happiness. And nobody (barely) ever takes the happiness in all the previews I've seen, which looks a bit bonkers from the outside as having more policy card slots appears to be potentially quite strong.
Insane gemeplay. Isabella seems busted those yields. Also how the hell did Augustus lose Rome to the free cities??? wtf?
Benji more bloodthirsty than Gandhi ? Now I want to see that.
So many scouts!!!
I bought the deluxe edition in Canada. 130$+20$(taxes) 150 bucks ...pretty steep
I've watched a few videos (they have all been really well done, including this one) and I'm concerned the AI is kind of just making random choices and not really "playing" - an issue with Civ V and Civ VI. I guess most people don't seem to mind this, but coming off Age of Wonders 4 which has a wonderful AI this is a bummer and I hope it's just a poor showing randomly and/or addressed by some tweaks on the day 1 patch.
I was thinking of combining Isabella with Han China, as building cities around natural wonders can result in a very spread out Empire, so I figure turtling around natural wonders by building the Great Wall could be an effective synergy. But I don't have access to the game, does Isabella's abilities combine well with Han China's?
wow so amazing
nice video. lovely voice
Great video, makes me wanna play as isabella! But I'm curious why you didn't use the scout special actions (lookout, etc) more often?
Enjoyed very much as you slowly explained all your moves and decisions behind them. The majority of the streamers with Civ 7 talk a mile a minute and makes your head spin in the first minute. One question is while attacking Linzl ? the first city you took over from Ben Franklin there was a settler that escape from the front lines unprotected. Why didn't you capture the settler?
@@kevingesell158 it was admittedly a silly move at first but it worked out since it allowed me to finish the Military victory condition for the age
This may be shallow but I don't think I'll ever play Greece. there's a lot of people playing that and the music is just... like not bad? upsetting maybe? it's not that the musicians who recorded it were bad, rather that the composition itself makes me uncomfortable
@@alexsnewhandle agree to disagree, I have always enjoyed the Greek music for Civ
Clio - you mentioned that Octavius' latin is great specifically his pronunciation - my understandign was that people do not know how to pronounce latin as there is no historical records of that - is that not the case?
@@Thyreus123 there's a few things - thanks to the writers like Cicero, Quintilian and Priscian, we have a better understanding of how to pronounce things in Classical Latin. We also have ecclesiastical Latin and mediaeval Latin that can serve as a basis :)
Day 40 of hoping the developers eliminate the option of being able to match civs and leaders that are historically incompatible
Great video! Why did you not receive 300 gold when discovering the second natural wonder? You got it for the first wonder on turn 1, but doesn't Isabella get 300 for each one?
Superb video and you have a great voice/accent. Early on circa 4' you said you wish the game had something and I heard it as "mat attacks" which cc showed as well. Could you please explain that one? (oh..and just subbed. imma big eu iv player)
"Map tacks". In Civ 6 you could put icons on the map to remind you of what you wanted to do with each tile.
Hello! I have a question. How long did it take you to play the full first age? Great game so far! :)
I see you started the Age of Exploration an Age early.
What is "Mapflax" @3:52 please?
