Adrian's hair was totally on top of its game back in the Whitesnake days. A feathered bouffant of perm and highlights that would have embarrassed a Roman God. Even Ritchie Sambora could not keep up with it, and god knows he tried. Thank you for those hair memories Adrian.

I will never understand why there’s this need to pit one guitarist against another. They all brought something unique to the Whitesnake sound. Everyone will have a favourite, but it’s just personal preference. The Whitesnake sound has always been a moving feast.

Glad I got to see Whitesnake and Crue back in 87. I actually thought Whitesnake was much better than Crue. As much as Steve vai is a great guitarist I would have rather have seen the vandenberg and Campbell duo. So I am fortunate to have seen them in the lineup. ❤❤❤❤❤

I mean no disrespect to Adrian but when John Sykes played a solo you would know it was him after only a few seconds. The combination of those on the 1987 album was perfect. Then there was Blue Murder which for me was highly under rated, John Sykes was also a great singer, different from David but still great. I would not be able to tell if it was Adrian playing guitar is my point. I know instantly it's John.

When coverdale decided to hire Steve Vai, it was incredibly hard and costly for him to Join. Coverdale wanted Michael Schenker first, but he wanted too much money and had stipulations like he didnt want to play the old tunes, he wanted to play his own tunes so he was discarded quite quickly. Vandenberg came in but Coverdale quickly realized he would need one more player as he, as usual was trying to replace John Sykes. It took two heavy caliber players to replace what Sykes had created. Here's my point: Nobody ever saw Mr. Vandenberg's medical papers. Vai had a clause on his contract stipulating he would be the only guitar player to record on the new album. All the guitar you hear on "Slip of the Tongue" is Steve Vai. Why didn't they keep Vandenberg's guitar parts made up to that point? And its funy that right after the recording, they all went on tour together. Did the hand heal so quickly? I wish Mr. Vandenberg would show the fans his medical papers and put this mistery to rest. I to this day do not believe the story and knowing Coverdale, its quite possible the whole thing is a ploy by the one and only.

He made a fantastic job on Slip Of The Tongue.

I absolutely love Vandenberg's playing, but somehow he never really got to shine in his prime as much as he could have in Whitesnake. Having to play someone else's stuff probably has something to do with it. And Sykes' work with Whitesnake is just beyond great. No one could or can touch that, maybe only Aldrich came close.
That said, Vandenberg always comes off as a class act and a true gentleman.

I still call bs on the "wrist injury" .. Whitesnake were in free fall as a studio band once Sykes was fired. It only hit them how bad the situation was when they went into record SOTT. They needed a big name to keep the profile up and Vai was paid blood money to keep the profile of the band up by playing on the album and the subsequent tour. Alas the material was not good and the production was too clinical. They got a good run for 4 good years and that was it.

I was laughing more at the "4 good years and that was it". Their highest charting albums here in the UK were Ready an' Willing and Come an' Get It, which were released in 1980 and 1981. There's a lot of fans here that hate the way Whitesnake chased the American dollar with 87, and the fact they re-recorded their older songs to try and have that US hit. I'm not disputing the fall off with SOTT, it didn't hit right at all and they murdered Fool For Your Loving which is an amazing song in its original state.

Say what you want, but the proof is in the pudding the guitarist that Coverdale has had the longest in his band is also the most talented and that would be Mr Reb Beach. Nobody talks about it much but Beach has been playing with Coverdale for 20 years, and if you listen to the solo on The Sands of Time, It's clear that he was definitely the most gifted guitarist Coverdale ever worked with his ability to not only compose the structure of a song but the architecture of a solo was unmatched. You guys it's not just about how fast or how brutal he could play, but the artistry of how he could compose the solo speaks volumes about his abilities. And I'm not saying the other guys aren't good They are, But there is a reason Red Beach has been with David Coverdale for 20 years.
