    Zany here. Just watched this video. Well done! Thank you for sharing the recipe from SMF. I hope everyone who makes 100% Olive Oil Castile tries it and appreciates the "no slime" factor and quick cure. One other thing I'd like to mention -- when it gets down to the last little bit it holds it shape and can easily be pressed into a new bar with warm water as the "glue".

      Hi Zany, I saw your recipe ontheven soap making forum and used the faux seawater method too! I used 85% olive, 10% coconut and 5% castor. Water lye ratio 1.9:1 and hot process! It came to trace super fast and there was so little water for the hot process, but I got two very nice blocks of Marseille style bars. I made them 3 days ago and they are already very hard! Thank you for sharing your recipe with us! Regards from the Netherlands!

      Super Fat/Discount 0 %
      Lye Concentration 37.037 %
      Water : Lye Ratio 1.7000:1

    How it's so nice to see a video on this. Your soaps turned out beautiful!! I can't wait to make this recipe. I think I'm going to add tea tree oil and either colloidal oats or kaolin clay. Thanks again for taking the time to make this great video for us.

    It’s really easy soap to make! I have no idea why people say it’s so difficult to make. If I reduce water and force my soap to a gel phase it’s ready almost immediately. After a day or two is hard as a rock ;) and it’s the most gentle from all of the soaps :) I love it. Very nice video!

    • @summitvalleysoap6611
      @summitvalleysoap6611  4 роки тому +3

      Interesting. I've never heard anyone say it was difficult. I think most just shy away because of the long cure time. As far as making goes, I would say it is one of the easiest.

      @@LadyGozathat is good to know. I plan on using a fragrance. In the original recipe it recommends to use a flour or clay to anchor scent or even castor oil. I'm definitely going to use a clay when I make mine.

    My faux water was cloudy, but when I added the lye, it seemed to have something at the bottom, almost like the sea salt and baking soda multiplied and “reverse” dissolved and just sat at the bottom of the lye water. Is this normal?

    Thanks for the video. Couple of questions... how did the soap make your skin feel? Was is drying, harsh or softening and moisturizing? I read it could also be used as a shampoo bar in the SMF forum. Have you used it frequently? I’d appreciate any feedback you’re willing to share on its performance. Thx😄

      I ended up selling 3 of the bars from that small batch so I don't know. I kept the one in the video that I do the later test with and I'm still using it! It is beside my sink and I wash my face with it a few time per week. I can't tell any difference now from when I first tested it at 3 after pour. I think that's a good thing. I have to admit, I don't love Castile but I think if you are looking for a good Castile recipe/technique this is a good one.

    I tested this recipe out 2x and had tons of tiny bubbles throughout the soap. I'm not sure what happened there.

    • @summitvalleysoap6611
      @summitvalleysoap6611  Рік тому

      Bubbles are produced by your immersion blender. There are lots of tips out there about how to reduce this. Since this recipe is so slow to trace, I can see how it would have even more because of how much more blending it would require. Some people approach it with different blenders and I recently saw where someone drilled a hole into their blender to help. You can also let the batter sit before pouring, bang the batter on the counter to bring the bubbles to the surface before you pour, pour over a spatula, etc... The amount of ways to combat this is almost endless really.

      I’ve used regular Castile soap after 4 and 6 weeks and found it very good to use. I gave some to an Italian friend and he loves it that was at the six week mark. The only benefit of leaving it longer is it will get harder therefore last longer.
