I like how Woody's character is a brutal murderer and a gangster that intimidates everyone around him, yet Walken is intensely more frightening in this scene by hardly saying anything at all and just smiling.
That's one of the most intimidating scenes I've ever seen in a film. It's just a simple callback to what we believed was an unrelated story, and the reveal floored me the first time I saw it. We know not to fuck with this guy from the story. The mob boss doesn't even need to hear it, he knows how the intimidation game is played, and he just lost to a veteran.
just in general Walken is really, really good and knowing when to drastically change volume to deliver the effect he wants. I feel like he became kind of a meme for doing a lot of silly work as he got older but he's such an unbelievable actor.
Man look at that Christopher walken, dudes in his eighties now and he's still oozing acting talent for people to spare lol this guy is up there with Laurence Olivier and Orson Welles imo, a masterful actor with just an absurd amount of talent!!
I agree, David Howse. It was something to see both him and Woody Harrelson in a scene. When I think of actors, these are two who can bring such intensity to their work.
I don't think he acts all that much. He's a creepy but likable person off screen. He does bring screen presence like no one else. When I think of great actors I think of Gary Oldman who has roles that you don't know are/is Gary. He even looks different depending on the character.
Even the simple act of sitting down becomes ominous and menacing when you're Christopher Walken. If he were a police interrogator, hardened criminals would break out into a sweat at the way he pulls his jacket closed.
"A little..." I try, in my life, to handle grief as stoically and forgiving as Hans does in this film. Especially considering how the ending scene is actually about him letting go of his anger and hate. I fail most of the time, but talk about a good character to try to live up to!
@@SightForMemories Oh, just be different than I am. Why didn't I think of that? While I am at it, I should also just decide to be happy, tall, handsome, and independently wealthy. (You probably didn't mean to, but your comment came off really sanctimonious and preachy.)
@@georgerogers2120 Maybe not sanctimonious, but a little preachy sure. Preaching's fine, what's unforgiving to me personally is being totally unhelpful, which they also were lol. That didn't sound sanctimonious, did it?

Like almost every great scene, it’s the relaxed tempo. Nobody racing through their lines because they’ve got a hot date later. The best part was when Walken does his trademark small smile and slight head tilt. Great, as usual.
Its actually terrifying when Walken gets this intense in movies. Some of the most intense scenes in movies are by this man, that scene in True Romance with Dennis hopper, the russian roulette in Deer hunter, some moments in The king of new york & The prophecy and here
The Sicilian speech is still one of the greatest moments in movie history, as a history buff how I can confirm it’s rooted in truth too which makes it so much worse and better. The fact that it is a father choosing a fast death over risking ratting out his son while hiding it so well is beyond sad and touching.
Walken really does have it whatever it is, in every scene he is in I find him captivating he just holds your attention almost an unpredictable air about him that makes me afraid to look away. By the way Woody is no slouch either he has similar attributes I wonder how many come from his father?
Christopher Walken sitting in front of the man who JUST killed his wife, and the guy says "Are you hurt?" and he responds with a chilling "A little." I've fuckin got goosebumps from how amazing the acting in this film is. This movie is my favorite of all time, and imho one of Walken's best acting performances, along with Sam Rockwell I recommend this to everyone who hasn't seen it.
He and Sam are very much alike. they play themselves in roles and are easily distinguishable. Someone like Gary Oldman takes it up several notches. His appearance and acting changes with every role and you may not even know it is him unless you know beforehand what role he is playing. But I like both approaches.
The truly great actors know how to leave a little bit of themselves in every character, so their audience can connect to a part of the real person who brings life to the character.
yes. It's not so much underrated as unpopular. Those I know I've shown it to loved it, and I still see new messages in it to this day. Walken def is the best in the movie, one of his greatest performances. It's amazing to see him sit in front of his wifes killer with a smile on his face, trying to give him something and reveal what he truly is. I like it. It's got layers... Many layers..
I like this movie better. Although in bruges is funnier in a way, this movie has so many more heartwarming moments, and very emotional at times. Whereas in bruges was pretty much just straight dark comedy.

It's a cravat
No shit. Smiles can be a lot scarier in the right circumstances.
PhantomSavage because Walkers character knows something Woodys doesn’t. There is something weird about Walken, very unusual guy.
Walken is always more frightening when he smiles. 🤣
Its the quiet ones who you have to watch....
His subtle voice and just a quick movement to show his scar to scare the hell out of the guy shows Walken is such an incredible actor!
you know, the funniest thing about serial killers is they are easily scared :) and usually by objects that you and I take for granted.

The scene where he simply says “no” etc when told to stop and raise his hands. Brilliant writing.
Did anyone else notice that when Walken is putting the cravat back around his neck, he's looking to the camera as if it's a mirror?
YUP.... The confidence!!!!
Well, the camera is a witness not a testimony.
My favourite part of the scene. He looks so eerie there
Thank you Captain Obvious.

I would argue that Rockwell and Walken are neck and neck for how good they are in this film.
I love to hear that Walken talkin.

I watched Christopher Walken read the Three Little Pigs,,,,it was hilarious.
