when i saw this movie in the '90s I liked it but I didn't realize how good it was, now I love it. And the supporting cast is one the most successful ever. There are the future Morpheus, Gus Frink, Horatio, Blade and Donny. Amazing.
I love how a potential Frank/Jimmy conflict was teased & then later resolved when the cops stormed the gang's hideout, leading to Frank fleeing, but not leaving Jimmy behind as he so easily could have.
Ethnics where not a social issue on a large scale among the normal people. It where the cops and politics that made it a big issue. Divide and conquer (Avoid PPL to unite, is how powerful stay in power and control the masses)

It's just ok. It suffers from what Joker does: it looks good and has some good acting, but the script needs serious work. Bad Lieutenant, from the same director, is superior.

i saw this when i was 14.... i swear,, apart from walken, argo, snipes, & caruso, i thought they cast real gangsters, fishburne especially....i had never seen him before!!! my only gripe about this film is it's too short, this easily could've been a 150min epic.
This was a solid performance by Christopher Walken. It's up there with "The Deer Hunter" which he won an Academy Award. Another great role for him was in a movie called "At Close Range" with Sean Penn. Madonna did the soundtrack which included the song "Live To Tell". A pair of brilliant performances by Chris and Sean.
