@JoJo W Ironically, my 22 year old daughter and I are just as close as me and my mother. I have four sisters ,and I'm the oldest and the closest to my mom. Its crazy how life goes. I feel like it's the 20 years apart span that makes us so close!! I'm so glad to hear my words and positive vibes helped you. Stay with these " honeysteaders" they give good vibes always!!
Thanks, I was wondering if they were mother and daughter sorry for your loss. I lost my mother at age 17 and still miss her at age 76.
English Ivy makes the best cough suppressant throat soother. That's what I use it for.

I grew up (and still reside) in Oregon and many of our buildings have English Ivy growing on them and in all my years (& they are plenteous) I have never known any of these buildings (walls, brick retaining walls, et al) to be compromised as a result of this beautiful feature. I simply love it!!! ♥️♥️♥️
I use uk ivy for wash8ng clothes. It works quite well! Soak 40 leaves overnight, drain and rinse, then boil them up with 11/2 litre water and strain- hey presto

I bought an herbal cough syrup before Christmas that had ivy leaf in it, I have to say it was the most effective one I've ever used. The one I used also had licorice root and thyme, very pleasant tasting. Thank you for posting this I really enjoyed it!
I make laundry soap from this and I love it! Only I followed a UA-cam video for it by a Bristish couple and they boiled it. It lasts a week in the fridge and works great!💖

Having cleared old ivy from a brick house myself I can state honestly, the roots dig into the mortar and weaken the brick work and pulls shingles off the roof..

English Ivy is sooooooooo invasive here and we do Ivy clearing as it does choke out a lot of the native plants here in BC, Canada. We pull it and now that I know the benefits from you all I might keep pulling with our environmental group but keep some and see what I can do after some research! We also weave with it here and make baskets!

I have been using English ivy for several years, I'm not certain that it's exactly the same one that you're using, but it looks similar.
The person who taught me about English ivy told me that he treated his granddaughter's hand from a massive infection which the health center was not managing at all and the nurses were even afraid of touching it because it kept on spreading, so I imagine that the child had some kind of fungal infection. He told me that he made a strong tea with ivy and had the child soak her hand in there and he says that within a few days her hand was almost completely healed.
I also used that solution with salt to soak a badly infected finger where the infection was starting to go up my arm and the next day my finger was back to normal, but the skin was still a bit dark because the finger had gotten really swollen and dark and pounding and painful. All was gone after one afternoon of frequent soaks.
I have also read about the respiratory benefits and what I do is put one or two leaves in my tea when I have a cold, but I'm thinking of making a tincture just for the respiratory system effect.
I have also made little cloth bags with ivy leaves and applied them to my achy areas under a tight garment and it has relieved my pain after a few applications. The only pain where it didn't seem to help was my elbow pain.
I agree with you too it's difficult to find information about english ivy.

Oh my goodness! I’m in England and I was never told this about ivy when I was training to be a herbalist at uni! We were told about Ground Ivy (different species) but never about English ivy! And I have so much growing in my garden that I was planning to use to weave baskets - I’m so chuffed I can use the leaves too! This has made my year! Thank you! 🎉❤ Kate x
The back half of our property has been overrun w/English ivy. In an effort to push it back, me and my teenager spent an evening trying to cut it back. While I wore gloves, and treated it carefully as you would poison ivy, my kid disregarded my warnings and ripped into it bare handed. A few days later she had blisters and welts all over her hands. I didn't realize it could cause a reaction such as that. To be safe I would suggest performing a topical test and see if you have a similar type reaction before using it internally.

Ingestion of berries or leaf material in small quantities may cause no symptoms or only minor gastrointestinal upset. It’s important to note that even a small quantity of the plant may be harmful for some people, however. Ingesting large amounts of ivy can cause breathing difficulties, muscle weakness, coordination problems, fever, hallucinations, and even coma.
A standardized extract made from the English ivy plant may be safe, depending on how the extract is made. It may even be useful medicinally, as described below. A "standardized" extract is one with a known concentration of the active substance. Hi I've just made this and filled ice cube bags up with it, when my lot have a cough they can suck on a cube, that will keep it longer than a month.

Thanks for the great video ladies. Fermenting glass or porcelain weights are a great way to hold down the plant matter in canning jars when creating infusions. If I can remember, I'll have to make you a few, when my new mosaic tile art studio is finished. My old studio on our mini-farm/homestead is getting renovated into a sustainable house. ;)

I love ivy! I make laundry soap with English ivy, although it doesn't have much of a scent and ferments if not used quickly. It is a great alternative! Thanks for sharing 🍃
Not sure where you are in the world, but I live in Wales, UK and I've been making the laundry soap liquid fof a couple of years. I find with the English ivy I collect here, that it smells surprisingly fresh and lasts for weeks. I use the Home is Where Our Heart Is, recipe.
I absolutely love your channel. An how your all about natural herbal everyday plants to help and cure whatever issues. Just fabulous! As ive been into it, taught some and learning and wanting to learn an use/do more. Its funny because purslane is 1 of thoes that's abundant an here in Southern California, that all been taught is a weed? Yet is the Best vitamin B there is and is what they make commercial vitamins with. It's a easy, versatile and pretty plant that I've used in all manners from salads,tintitures and dried. Can't wait to see what more you show us. Suggestion? Could you do more on mixtures for pets? Also, would be great. BLESS 🙏

slippery elm is also good for coughs. layer the plant matter and alcohol in the jar for complete saturation. Oh and don't press down on your scale like that, you could damage it and get inaccurate measures. I've always used a double boiler to reduce, it takes longer but you lose less of the medicinal properties of the plant to the direct heat of the burner.
Big Thanks for this information. There is a small patch of land right down the street that is completely covered with what I think is English Ivy. This gave me the itch to start foraging again😊. It will be a nice switch from making holiday cookies and what not.

My dad told me the men of old times~ WWII ate cabbage before they drank alcohol to avoid any hangover effects.
I never drink enough for that, but I like cabbage.
I do need the anti~inflammatory & recently learned that stone ground mustard helps as an anti inflammatory. So many natural foods to help with this.

Thank you! I’ve had homeopathic cough medicine with English Ivy being the primary ingredient. I am just beginning to build my recipe list and plant/forage key ingredient. Your land is similar to our so when you and your mom go out and forage, or reseed what is native to our land, I listen, take notes!

Robitussin actually came out within the past few years i guess with a cough syrup using Hedera and the taste is so much better than “standard” over the counter cough syrups! Thanks for the tips

Interesting. I recently heard that you can take a few thyme leaves and chew them, then swallow. It's suppose to work as an expectorant. An acquaintance did this and it worked overnight.
Thyme is such an amazing plant, most only know of it for cooking, but there is such a huge connection with common culinary herbs and herbal medicine!

When I make a tincture that the alcohol doesn’t cover the Marc like 1:1 or 1:2 I put all in the blender. Makes great tinctures.

I’ve made the laundry soap this year it’s good (unscented) but doesn’t last without preserving/ pasteurizing. The saponins do bubble once shaken when done. But I chose to add eucalyptuses essential oil with mine. In my research I’ve only found English Ivy is toxic to take internally in large quantities.

Interesting! So we don’t have Ivy here, but we have Cerasee here. The orange fruits are pretty so my kids play with and spread everywhere (it’s super invasive also medicinal, if y’all want some I’ll send you way lol). It’s now climbed up under my screen and popped the window screen off! We don’t get winter here so not sure how it would grow for you, but if you want to try let me know
