Lyrics
A change of speed, a change of style.
A change of scene, with no regrets,
A chance to watch, admire the distance,
Still occupied, though you forget.
Different colours, different shades,
Over each mistakes were made.
I took the blame.
Directionless so plain to see,
A loaded gun won't set you free.
So you say.
We'll share a drink and step outside,
An angry voice and one who cried,
'We'll give you everything and more,
The strain's too much, can't take much more.'
I've walked on water, run through fire,
Can't seem to feel it anymore.
It was me, waiting for me,
Hoping for something more,
Me, seeing me this time,
Hoping for something else.
Man, Bernard's guitar playing in the beginning is one of the most menacing riffs in music history.
First time I learned it I spent nearly half an hour playing the intro over and over again.
I agree, it makes you feel like the world is ending
They grew up listening to Sabbath.
Yeah, drifts from discord to overdrive
Sorrowful more so than menacing. Bernard doesn't know how to menace, Ian and Hook did. Hook no longer does. Fact.
Best Joy Division song
Exactly
Indeed
Completely !

Definitely.
this song...this poem breaks my inner soul into thousands
This song is so haunting. makes you feel sad and hopeless. Best Joy Division song of all time--Ian was way beyond his young years-

I grew up in ages when we just listen to the music and feel the songs, no internet, no UA-cam. The best way to listen to Joy Division is in a low light room and let them talk deep inside you. Who needs the videos to feel?
The music and the vocals make all the scene comes true.
Yes!
I also have had this strange addiction since i was in middle school to listen to them like this. I calll it "Talking to the spirits" whenever i get this feeling you mentioned and it happens everytime i listen to joy division
don't forget though you tube has brought all such brilliant music back to life!
I agree!πολύ ωραία!
So true
My all-time favourite track and in my humble opinion, the greatest song recorded in the 20th century - RIP mega-genius Ian Curtis
Это крутая группа. Россия. Фёдор
I’m gonna say this, these videos lack the depression that Ian sings About.
This video has it, the blearly footage, the women, the dark atmosphere.
@@johnlemon3809 it's dark but it doesn't mean depression, it's like a child wearing a black jacket pretending to be a badass adult or Zack Snyder's movies
Luke Balika I agree. They need to be darker, moodier, and eerier.
Yep bc a good looking girl posing is what I think about when listening to music about struggling with depression and killing yourself. This video makes me think of episodes of teen dramas where a main character is depressed. The video would have been done better without anyone in it. When I think of depression, I think about someone who is doing their best to be/act normal when they’re actually white knuckling it through the bad times. I feel sad when I see video of Ian.
so there still is goths?

This song is just way too good, it doesn't need a video!
Not this crappy fake video anyway
Dont watch it then. Simples.
Misty, spooky, motelley, phoneliney. Crappy.
ian curtis is rolling in his grave rn..
why are you complaining i dont get it, videos drive more people to the song
Astounding lyrics, what a talented young man he was… RIP Ian
The rolling drums, the guitar riff, the haunting bass, the beautiful lyrics and sang by the best, and not forgetting the wonderful production of the song and album, makes this song the best
Autumn 1980 ,age of 15 and feeling that something is rolling on,some sense of premonition that I am immersing in unknown .
Joy Division on my childhood gateway ..
Dear God please be merciful to Ian s soul
This song is so far ahead of its time that we still haven't caught up with it yet.
100%.. 2023 and still before this time.
What is he saying
@davidboyle1193 it's about suicide.
@@davidboyle1193 It's in a comment above, I think it must be the audio distortion, can hear it fully now though after recognising.
Lame, nonsense comment.
Love how Ian shouts the line ‘I’ll give you everything and more’. Always grabs me by the heart strings. Defo my funeral song
@@xino_z great minds…
You don’t want the guests to be down at a funeral. Everyone knows what this song was about. Not to be joked about 😢
For a woman...it will be # She's lost control!!! Applies to most tbf
@@bgeek Well, actually, you know, I kind of _do..!_ Don't get me wrong, it's not as if I'd want anyone trying to throw themselves into the grave or anything, but much as I hope to be celebrated, I'd like to think I'll be missed, as well!
@@richiehoyt8487that’s so selfish
A band that made no bad songs, not many others...... Superb......
you simply cannot overrate joy division.
It's impossible, they're perfect, and then some.
Ian Curtis , we all miss you so much , what a performer , never seen the likes before or since.
This is actually the best song I've ever heard. It's literally playing at my funeral.
I dunno, seems a little dramatic don't you think? I mean there you'll be, in a coffin, and everyone will be listening to this wondering, 'why are we listening to this song' ? Oh it's because he wanted us to', but then people will wonder, why this song? Was he trying to send us a post death message? and the funeral last a while, so it'll just be this one song over and over? People will get sick of it really. Then people will start researching the lyrics and coming to all kinds of conclusions, it'll become like a riddle with pieces of your life being corelated to words in the song, do you really want to send people down this road? How about just an instrumental version of something? Maybe a mariachi band better?
@@dualvc12 this is not the place to be a douche
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
this!!!
Ian’s voice, the rawness in their music.
Nothing better before or since.
Shit video.
The video posted by anemic silence for Decades is the way to do it.
Completely agree with you, these videos are a fucking damn consequence of '' digital '' marketing
Right there with you ....
I'm obsessed with this song, I'm listening to it way too many times, it's an addiction
I Know Right 💜💜
Me too! You know good music when you hear of
Same. I can't hear it enough.

It just grabs my soul and spits it out in tiny pieces a master piece RIP Ian
C4r4lh0, fizeram filho ouvindo esse álbum. Estão de parabéns, caramba
Oh that beautiful bass in the beginning. The dirty, distorted sound of an old record. Fuck yeah, Division. Kudos!
Shane Arellano That’s pretty much Goth music, distilled. 🖤
Un brivido, una strana sensazione quando le parole ti vengono fuori dopo anni che non l'ascoltavi, ma è come respirare non si scorda come si fa, è dentro di te e risorgi con Lui.
Ian eterno
For me the best song there can be. It reflects the losses I've had to endure in my life and it tears my soul apart over and over again !It's like an addiction to listen to the song. It will definitely be played at my funeral
I can't believe Ian was only 23 when he committed suicide!!! He was so talented and such a legend!!! I listen to joy division almost every day!!! I wish I could build a time machine and try to hang out back stage with him!!!
Unknown pleasures is one album I never get bored of. Grips me every time.
Playing this over and over wandering around my NYC neighborhood at 11pm....so unbelievably content. Just so good.
i envy your great life

Absolutely epic, as were many of their songs. Harsh beauty sculptured from tortured emotion & rigorous sonic exploration. We will never see their like again 😢
Still takin me for years everytime when i watch this reimagination and audio refreshment , it just takes me to a place where love and pain where the same . Like when u love someone and it hurts at the same time ...
Joy Division brings me to my Happy place, Love them. So very tragic that he was dealing with what was happening in his world. Such a loss.
Takes me back, so much. Spent many a night listening to Joy Division. It was a sad day when I heard the news about Ian
Joy Division music is open to many different feelings and sides and I was an original Joy Division fan(and Warsaw for that matter back in 1979 for me) so all these critics of the video should maybe close their eyes and just listen.
You can't do this out of thinking, this type of music flows through You or just does not. Beautiful.
Can't seem to feel it anymore. I know that feeling.
This is on a whole new level of music.
This song reminds me going to beach in 1988 ,me , my cousins and our surfboards ....at the dark , only shine of the moom , cold , black and white style...holping for something more...Joy Division
Best song to listen at the sunrise... Simply poetry...
Verdade
The intro bass line and raunchy guitar sound soooo Black Sabbath. So heavy.
Glad to see I'm not the only one who thought of Sabbath.
@@gamwisesamgee7400 Tommy Iommi 100%.

It reminds me the bass line in " unità di produzione" from italian band C.S.I.
This song si based in the Legendary lick of Tony Iommi in n.i.b and war pigs
This beautifully crafted display of emotion is their definitive song, their masterpiece.
I'm actually a big doom metal fan as well as Joy division and other bands. After the 3.25 mark the solo almost sounds like paradise lost or something. Wow. Inspired so many bands.
Im crying so hard... I miss them so much........
"New Dawn Fades" es uno de los temas más emotivos de Unknown Pleasures, es tan intenso que cada vez que lo escucho me pone feelin.

No words can describe this song and decades scared to play them brings my depression back scary and amazing at the same time
It's my favorite song from Joy Division
I agree with the comments below - this song was 40 years ahead of its time and is stellar
I'm convinced that if this generation discovered Joy Division at once, they would absolutely blow the fuck up.
Unbelievably powerful song
Depressing and joyful at the same time. Perfect

Who needs a reimagined video of that beautiful song???
Joy Division sounded like a 90's band. So ahead of their time
90's bands sounds like them,ask Korn,Deftones😎✌️
I'm really into this song right now. Thanks, Joy Division!
First time i heard this JD song, I had tears in my eyes...40 years leter, it still has the same effect on me. Brilliant & Timeless!
I watched Hooky sing this song in Manchester Apollo a few weeks ago in July, and I was in tears.
Raw, real, honest and powerful.
Absolute masterpiece.
The Equalizer sent me here....What an excellent choice of song to end the movie.
Is it just me or this is the greatest song ever?..
I am thinking it could be.

Vale!!!
Magnificent song, deep and understanding the arena of your mind. Brings everything together for me.
don't know why this song makes me cry like a baby!
Joy division videos reimagined is just this woman glaring forever
One of many masterpieces of Joy Division!
Joy División, mi banda sonora de una época, encerrado en casa, en la habitación, miraba a través de la ventana, y el horizonte, eran los cristales de la misma.
Davis Lynch is the ONLY person that should be allowed anywhere near a Joy Division video.
To be fair this did remind me a bit of Lost Highway

My favorite joy division song
This is probably the best joy Division song and one of the best songs ever. This masterpiece is overwhelmed with depression and despair... and you created this empty and meaningless video, why?
Who forced you to look at the screen? plenty of options other than whining. could have leaned back in your chair leaned your head back and closed your eyes and listened.
Totally agree
The lyrics are so dark but so beautiful
Maravilhosa canção. Para sempre Joy Division!!!
Pure masterpiece!!!!! The best an the darkest bass guitar sound ever!
There couldn’t have been a better choice than Todd Hido for this! Haunting visuals and such poetic transitions, I wish Todd Hido branched out in more than just still imagery! 😍

How a person responds to music, is a deeply personal thing. Many, if not most of you, were exposed to this song many years after it's initial release, this is not your fault, it is just how life unfolds...
I heard this song, when I was about 20, (along with the entire Unknown Pleasures album), when it was first released. This gloomy (later to be called goth) music, touched a part of my soul, that had never been touched in this manner before, it was dark, it was introspective, it forced me to look deep inside myself and it scared me, yet I could not look away, I could not stop listening, I really felt Ian was stimulating a part of me, that had never been exposed before, I loved it, yet in some twisted way, hated how it made me feel, but I was hooked and the bottom line was.... IT MADE ME FEEL....!
A loaded gun won't set you free....
Freaking wicked song! Reminds me of my youth. Chilling lyrics.
Pretty damn solid sound! The video of the road in the dark fits pretty good, but that one with the mist and the telephone/electricity wires rocked!
Signed,
J.
Timeless song love it so much
All you ever hear about though, is The Genius of Ian Curtis, but you can easily hear every member of the band is at least as important.
I love this song fav track.
JOY DIVISION is a gift to human race .
I love joy division... from Argentina 👋 😊🇦🇷
I can easily imagine this song played in The Roadhouse in Twin Peaks: The Return.
None of the re-imagined videos were needed or even wanted. I will say that this one was slightly less obnoxious than the earlier versions. I think its relatively simple imagery and bleak visuals suit the music better than, say, a naked man covered in leaves or some abstract animation.
Obnoxious videos for an obnoxious fanbase, pretty fitting ain't it?
@@Dekku I would say discerning fanbase personally.
Would he really be naked if he were covered in leaves?
@@somedude5853 Well, leaves aren't exactly clothes.

I knew the reputation these 40th anniversary videos had was bad but damn, this music video looks like the home movies a couple involved in a bad marriage would make 😂
I sang Shadowplay, at an inpromptu, party in the woods, during the summer, never rehearsed, just some amazing musicians with me, Matt, guitar, Mick, Bass, Freddie, Drums, he went on to play for Tenpole Tudor, a transcendent experience, as Joy Division, themselves were at the Moonlight Club in West Hampstead....RIP the genius that was Ian Curtis
Cant they just put a static image of the band in a concert?
Thats not what these videos are about
