They are the cherry on top of a good team. It's kind of wild to think that almost every tight end in the league we consider elite is on a team that always makes it to the playoffs pretty deep.
True. And think about it, the two most dominant QBs the last 10 years have were Mahomes and Brady and both of them made a living off throwing to a superstar TE. Having a TE of Gronk or Kelce’s status is just as valuable as anything.
Definitely not a bad idea to draft a TE first round if your a team that made it deep in a playoffs and you don’t have serious needs at other positions.
One thing that should be noted is the two best TEs in nfl were later picks. Travis kelce was a 3rd round pick, and George Kittle was a 5th round pick.
Yes. A Tight End that can catch and block is gonna be ALWAYS on the field
I don't think it's a coincidence two of the best, if not THE best, TE were in the Super Bowl.
Well if a team knew that Kelce would be what he is he would have been a first.
bowers is not just a “tightend “ he’s a different type of playmaker
Tight-end* it’s not one word Steve.
TE in the first is a luxury pick , the only team i see that could draft bowers is the jets. they only really need a safety and depth players.
Gronk and Kelce. TE's for dynastys. It is worth it if you need that position.
A good dual threat TE will give defenses absolute hell if you don't criminally misuse them. A good dual threat TE is also an extremely safe pick
the math says yes...but that all depends on the player of course and if you plan on using their skill set enough to warrant 1st round capital...the highest percent chance to get a player who wont bust is historically a 1st round TE...the question is, are you reaching or not...
there have been plenty of statistical surveys of the nfl draft and they clearly say 1st round TEs have the highest hit rate than any other position...soooo again yes it is worth it...if there is a player worth the pick you are using :P reaching is almost always a mistake.
Well, years ago Marty and King Carl spent a first round pick on a TE, he turned out okay. Several years later Andy and John Dorsey drafted a TE in the 3rd round who turned out even better. So the moral of the story is: Pay your scouting dept.
Here's my thing a out TEs in general in the draft. If both the OC and QB don't see and have internalized the TE as a serious option, it doesn't matter how good the TE is. He'll never get targets. I've seen undrafted TEs have great years and 1st rounders just run cardio. It's about usage and draft status, anecdotally at least, doesn't matter.
You'd think he'd realize that watching what they do to Cade Otton in Tampa
one thing is that TEs tend to be cheaper than WRs so if u really draft a generational TE like kelce or kittle theres incentive and feasibility to keeping them around for a long time
If your QB likes to throw in the middle of the field, maybe. If not, like Aaron Rodgers or Wilson, probably not.
What TE Rodgers had to take advantage of the middle of the field?
@@wblake22 It doesn't matter because he doesn't throw there most of the time.
@@wblake22Jared cook (1 yr), Robert Tonyan (2020), a few others. He does like TEs and he does use them if they are reliable at catching the ball. Almost all of his MVPs he had a TE he trusted
@@kghostthegreatright cook was good and solid for us. A player Rodgers used. Tonyan had that one good year and was never the same
@@tonyverras2688the other guy came up with 2 names you couldn’t. The point was to show you. Give him a decent target to throw 2 and he will.
To me ot just depends on IF the team truly needs weapons like a TE. IF that is the case then yes
It's definitely worth it, but it does seem like unlocking elite tight end play requires a quality quarterback (see Atlanta) compared to just having a wideout who can create separation. To be fair, a lot of the top tight ends were not selected in the first rounds for injury reasons (gronk) or character/switched position in college (kelce and waller). Also, evaluation has been a lot better in recent years and a lot less dependent on raw numbers and more traits based, for example I don't think that a guy with the profile george kittle had in 2017 would slip past the second round nowadays.
Before I watch, I see Bowers as an exception because he is essentially like a cheaper WR than he is a TE with his skill set but has the potential to elite and create bad mismatches for opposing defenses
TE in the 1st is pretty expensive. $ and pick wise
I hope the Chicago Bears SPRINT to the podium for Brock Bowers if he's on the board at #9. The Bears are taking Caleb Williams and have Shane Waldron who's base offense is a 12 personel. Bowers is the logical choice for the Bears at #9 and the best choice too.
Only QB, OL, DL, CB should be drafted in Round 1 if your Team is not in a Position of Luxury.
As a Jets fan, I dont want any part of Bowers. Would be poor resource allocation. I'm in the trade down camp and getting back a 2nd. Use 1st and 2nd rounds to shore up OL and WR respectively. Cant go on a run if we cant make the OL stout.
In a Tight End centric offense like the Chiefs yes
If you need a kicker bad enough and hes good enough draft a kicker in the 1st round. I dont get off into all of this position shamming
Part of it has to do with what other teams will do. No point in drafting a kicker in round 1 if that player will still be there at round 4+
@@6393dude if the kicker is a 1st round talent and you need one get him. Same with a MLB, RB, WR etc.
Not much use in drafting a Tight End in the 1st round if your coach and/or quarterback don't know how to get value out of the position.
Kyle dugger video since he just got resigned by the patriots??
Draft a tight end tonight! It's a bad idea, right?
Brock Bowers is a no matter what player to draft
No
How is Kyle Pitts disappointing? He hasn’t had a competent QB.
Coming from a lions fan, Eric Ebron was hot TRASH
Bowers is comically overrated.
"Comically overrated"? Have you watched college football specifically Georgia? Look at Georgia stats with and without Bowers. Some teams main defensive plan was don't let them get Bowers the ball similar to how NFL teams treat Kelce....so overrated? 😂 Now, will his skill translate to the NFL time will tell. The video here makes a good point about spread between good and great TE maybe not be worth a top draft pick.
I'm a Washington fan I wouldn't mind them drafting Bowers at 2, and grabbing a qb later... I'd rather move back a few spots but Bowers is going to be a problem in the Nfl.... Also not sold on Jayden Daniel's, or Maye... I'm aware that wont happen but the tops qbs don't have me convinced.... I think Caleb could be good, but don't want a pink phone case, painted nails, in the closet gay quarterback if I'm being honest.
Should always draft a punter in the first round. Field position is everything. A good punter sets up the defense and a defensive stop sets up the offense
Lol that's a take
