I found this regarding zippers: "The product debuted at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago, but it didn't have much success. The modern zipper was eventually designed in 1913 by Gideon Sundback. He worked at the Universal Fastener Company in Hoboken, New Jersey. Sundback received a patent for his “Separable Fastener” in 1917." I'm leaning heavily towards a stolen purse dump. If that purse was buried with someone in an old mausoleum, there would be mold and discoloration as the body goes through the putrefaction process and stains the coffin fabrics and anything inside and the zipper would be extremely rusty or rusted away. If you Google "antique purse 1800s" the images show purses that fasten at the top with a snap. The red one there is tightly stitched and the zipper is on the side like a side pocket for a modern purse. I think it was pushed through the window/vent on the backside that had the tree branch in it. The location of the purse bears this out from looking where it landed.
@@SerenitySueGraveyards @SMLE, I respectfully disagree and doubt it's a stolen purse. I reckon the purse was left (with coins in) by a relative many years or generations later (laid by the coffin). Some of us Irish Catholics do such things. I doubt we will ever know. Best wishes SMLE. Great video Sue, thank you.
That was brilliant seeing the video.. took me a few tries to sit and watch from start to finish.. definitely worth watching.. Happy Christmas Sue and to your family and of course Cathal
Thank you for this video, Sue. It's sad to see all the vandalization in these beautiful tombs. But you are giving them respect by remembering them. Thank you for all you do, and in some cases endangering your own life by exploring some dangerously crumbling mausoleums. Merry Christmas to you and GV and all your families.
Great video Sue. It would be great if we had charity type groups who could monitor some of these places and clean them up inside. I guess it would be difficult with the bones everywhere so sad to see. 😢
@@SerenitySueGraveyards your so worth it for what you do for us Sue, just wish it could have been more! But will address that whenever possible! Bless you! Xxxxxl

Dear Sue and GV. Thank you for all your videos this year. I wish you both well over the Christmas season and a prosperous 2025. Regards Marianne (South Africa)
I HIGHLY recommend TWO books, both by Caitlyn Doughty, an alternative funeral director in California. 1. Smoke gets in Your Eyes. AAAAAND 2. From Here to Eternity (looks at AMAZING customs around the world!)
Thanks for all the effort you always put into your videos... this compilation of 2024 had some amazing pieces and like you said the cost of building these grand structures would have cost a fortune ... it's sad to see the state some of them are in so thank you from Aussie pete stay safe... Merry Christmas and a happy new year from Australia to you all in Ireland.
I really enjoyed this video Sue but sad to see the state of the remains in the mausoleums. Glad you didn’t fall on that wet grass when you went to look in the huge mausoleum. If I don’t catch you before Christmas, all the best to you and GV and many thanks for your videos. Xxx
I would like to personally thank you very much for sharing these awesome videos. You are so kind and respectful when it comes to your investigations of these places that mostly have been forgotten for so many years. I hope you have an opportunity to be able to do all the exploring that you wish to accomplish.

hi sue. i really enjoyed watching this video. i m amazed with human remains . i m fascinated my own skeleton. Every deceased person needs peaceful resting place. It breaks my heart to see Broken coffins. they should be protected. may these souls rest in peace
I'm a retired Funeral Director, human remains and or bones don't bother me, now, a dancing skeleton in the middle of a cemetery or graveyard, now, that would shock me.
The colors are vibrant in the one. Blue, purple, bright green. Or am I the only one seeing it? These videos are so beautiful, and I appreciate the respect you show.

Thank you Sue and GV for all your hard work this year bringing us fabulous videos..Have yo say my favourite has to be 'The Castle' mausoleum..Looking forward to more videos next year..Love you both ❤ 😘
Hey Sue! The Zipper was invented in 1892 to 1893. The little purse looks like it might have been pushed through the little opening on the back of the tomb, like your friend said, probably from a purse snatching. Maybe?
My thought on that purse in. The crypt, I believe it was stolen & tossed thru that rectangular opening in the back, that opening is what the purse is closest to. I would go back & try to retrieve it with some long handled grabbers. It probably has an ID in it & that is why it was thrown in there. Would be an interesting find.
So glad to see others so fascinated by historic masoleums and graves. It's not a dark or macabre thing - I see it as a beautiful respect. I've not seen ones with holes, though, that allow you to peek inside them.
Sue and GV, its been one hell of a year!! I have enjoyed spending some precious time watching your Channels!! Excellent content throughout. Gratitude and Well Wishes. ❤❤❤
It is always nice to go back and see the places that I might have forgotten. I love the opening of the video with the snow on the ground - beautiful. Many older crypts with a history that we cannot be sure of what took place. A great reminder of the past year Sue. I like this format! ♥️☘️
It’s been a great year with you and GV, thanks for taking us. With out you guys I wouldn’t get to see most of this . Merry Christmas 🎄 and a happy new year from Australia 🐨💗the head less corpse with the stripped shirt is still my favourite, it’s like the torso is hollow. Very strange .
Hello, I enjoyed the video, that was creepy the last place you looked at underground. I noticed another area where there was coffin failure and you could see where the liquids ran down the front and some dripped from the bottom. That is nasty to look at. Thanks for sharing this video. Take care.
That zipper tells me it’s more modern. The modern zipper which that is, was created in 1917. These graves are much older than that. The oldest zipper was created in 1851, but it didn’t look anything like that.

Oh, Bless you Sue & GV for the many bumpy, wet, overgrown cemeteries you have made your way through so that we can get a glimpse of history!…not to mention an occasional “sit down” in wet, mucky grass! With each video you do- So many questions gallop through my head! Why did these families bury their loved ones in mausoleums…in wood coffins ( which were the only material available unless they used stone)…knowing that they would disintegrate over time and knowing that family members would not be around to do upkeep? It’s amazing to see the intricate headstones and crosses, etc used to honor a family member who has passed-but unless someone is buried in the ground to become one with the soil-how does it make sense to make these elaborate towering monuments only to see them fall apart or become unreadable??
Thank you for this recap of some very beautiful and interesting vaults. Some you would never know to be underground hallways. Curious how they even got them down those curved stairs. 😮 Merry Christmas guys!!
