I'm willing to bet that the reason for the Jewish areas being mark led off as dangerous is because they were often buried with valuables. Grave robbers aren't as prevalent as in days gone by being that there's easier ways for criminals to make money now. But they still exist, so it's probably a good thing you're not mentioning where this is.

    • @LynnCarlan

If it gets out to the Jewish community that one of their cemetery's needs repairs l'm sure they will take care of it, especially if they've family buried there, no matter how distantly related or how old.

There are a lot of cemeteries that put all of the children in their own little plot of land. My brother (18 mos) was buried in a children's cemetery. I, being as morbid as I am, think that all of those children's cemetery plots should have a playground in the center of them. I think it would be amazing for those who had siblings, so when mom or dad came to visit, the other children could play (maybe even with the ghost of their brothers and sisters?).

@20:00 Yes it's eternal love and here comes the "But" They were of 2 different religions and it's was looked down on so much then some decided to make a statement in death that love will prevail even over their gods! There is a cemetery in Lonsdale CA where a couple couldn't be buried in the same place. Jew and Catholic, something like that, and they have a wall separating them but the outreached hands cross the divide over the wall.

Dear Sue, the two hands on the grave of the Famille Cohen Levie (10:19) have a different meaning than a hand that gives another hand. As with married couples. The hands symbolize the fact that a person from the priestly lineage Cohen is buried at this location. There is a lot of information to be found on the internet about the name Cohen and the name Levie. A very special story and fascinating to delve into.

Hi Sue, my Lord! But you are one brave woman, going down into that dark hole of the first mausoleum…slippery steps, awful smell…I give you credit for being so fearless bless you. An awful lot of burials in that one area, and water damage. Thank goodness there wasn’t anyone dossing down in there! (Whoever would want to do that?!) I loved all the porcelain photos on the graves as you walked round, and the lush greenery of nature almost cosseting those old grave stones still standing. Some of the porcelains look hauntingly beautiful surrounded by fresh greenery…nature being respectful in its way. Such an awful lot of restoration work to be done! Makes you wonder however they will find the funds to do it and make this beautiful old cemetery safe for people to visit again.
When having a relative buried, one never thinks of the cost of maintaining it in the future when family have all passed away too!🤔
Think GV should have gone down mausoleum you heard footsteps, as he often gets EVP’s doesn’t he. Def footsteps Sue, not pawsteps bless you! And YES!! That very last mausoleum was a real distressing shocker…sculls taken it looked like for evil purposes..that poor man, still wearing smart pyjamas and coffin lining intact, but head gone. It’s unforgivable of these depraved devils to have such little respect for the loved ones of other people. Every lead coffin ripped open as you said. May they receive karma and very soon !!. 😠
Thankyou for taking us with you round such a beautiful cemetery….as you say, you need a packhorse to carry all the equipment you need to. Have with you “just in case”…..my suggestion would be a St Bernard dog , with one of those small barrels of brandy round it’s neck…..they used to advertise pictures of them back in the day like that anyone remember?……if no dogs allowed, you could always say it was a “care dog”!! …Thankyou again for taking us on adventures we can never get to ourselves…your both real
Troopers bless you! Love and Light! Helen 👩‍🦳💕😘😘🌹🫶💫xx

Thanks Sue for all these amazing walks, and cemetery visits, it does remind me of Highgate Cemetery, but I’ve just seen pictures of that cemetery, I’ve not been there in person, I love those porcelain flowers, it seems that they would be so fragile that they would all be broken. I love Mother Nature too...very much. But I wonder though. The people who started the cemetery probably wanted their loved ones memories to live on..and on...and made the beautiful markers with poignant words and dates for all of us going forward to read. So it makes me a bit sad to have overgrowth obscuring and damaging these precious memories..and leaving markers unreadable. They made the cemetery in such a lovely area surrounded by the trees, and flowers..but I still want to see their sweet markers and words and pictures.

Any old cemeteries that have people who died in the Cholera epidemic will never be removed or relocated because of the fear of the bodies still carrying enough of the disease to be able to still infect the living. I’ve heard it’s a misconception that people in previous centuries didn’t like to take fun photos. It’s just harder to hold a silly pose for a long time, given the long exposure time needed with old cameras. I guess also having limited access to cameras, they would prefer a formal photo. I’ve definitely seen some fun photos from way back 😊

You know, Sue..... I took photography when I was in college 30-odd years ago. A few years ago, my neighbor gave me a somewhat old Digital SLR camera. So, I started getting back into photography for a summer, and because I live in Baltimore, Maryland (USA).... there are many places nearby that are abandoned, falling apart, and some that are empty shells of buildings with the street level entries boarded up to prevent intruders. I went all over town taking pictures of places like that, and I called the project (well, the directory I saved the photos in) "Beauty in Decay", which has a double meaning. Baltimore has some fascinating architecture, and it's fairly unique to the area. It is also quite beautiful in that regard. So, somewhere that was once beautiful but is now decaying away. But also, because I'm that "creepy" kind of person (we discussed this before), I see the beauty OF that kind of decay. The title of "Beauty in Decay" has that particular double meaning.
So, yeah, seeing places like these that you show so often, reminds me of that particular title I gave that photo series.
Also, I don't remember if I mentioned this to you before, but once my time has come to an end, I want to be cremated (I do not want to risk what has happened to some of these poor defenseless people, to happen to me), and have my ashes mixed with concrete, that can be used to make my wife's headstone (she wants to be buried, and with some of my ashes, which I'm okay with). That idea was given to me by the "Andor" show (Star Wars related), and I think it would be SO fitting to be my wife's headstone when she finally passes.
She has been my "rock" these past 15 years (and counting), so it would be fitting if I was hers until our sun explodes and takes this planet out in another 5 billion years or so.
13:00 - I just had a thought..... since many of these graves are from the 1800s, was anything other than wood used to make coffins? Certainly, "burial vaults" weren't in use back then, were they? (I have a friend who used to deliver those to cemeteries all over town when he was working) So, I'm wondering.... could we be seeing plant life that has been fed by the decaying corpses of those buried in these places? That would add a whole new dimension to these videos, wouldn't it.
16:45 - You probably know this, but when photography first became "a thing", it became quite common for "post mortem" pictures to be taken of the decedent. I'm mentioning it, since there may be people coming here who aren't aware of that. At the time, pictures were quite expensive, so it wasn't uncommon for such an expense to be spent on "one last photograph" of someone before they went into the ground.
21:00 - That "hands held both in life and in death" is SO sweet! That is true love, right there.
I missed the time index..... but yes, I heard it/them.

I remember hearing somewhere that people had to sit longer back then for the photography chemicals to do their job, and that they might have gotten tired of "holding a smile."

@@SerenitySueGraveyards I just now remembered a picture of a great uncle of mine who had a really mean look in his picture! They always say it takes more facial muscle to smile; so I guess it takes less muscles to look mean.

Hi Sue and GV wonderous indeed.I love all the greenary.Sue I have bad news for you. That animal in the cript based on the sound of the steps, could only be an upright walking bipedal animal wearing shoes😅. Your calm semi dash up the stairs was very comendable.I am afraid I would have broken all Olympic records for" stairs dash"❤❤

In Victorian times it was considered rude to smile for a photo. I looked into it when I inherited very old photos from my great aunt.

Whispering is fine in the mausoleum because talking at a normal voice, it would be a loud echo chamber.

You should have over 100K subscribers by now. I think youtube is manipulating the numbers. I've read that they do that.

On the couples graves with hands clasped, did you happen to notice the death dates for them? Was it same or who went first?
    Awesome cemetery, Thanks 💚💚💚💚💚💚

That cemetery is creepy but beautiful at the same time. Those mausoleums would give me the willies though.

Oh that crypt was terrible. My heart was in my throat. The reason I will be cremated. By the way they were steps not an animal. Sounded like it may have been a man coz the steps were quite heavy. Beautiful cemetery. Pity they don’t ask for volunteers it could all be done quicker. Fantastic video thanks. Bless You and please take care
