Bet it was hard to drag Nicole away from the shoes 😊. The museum was great but I was a little surprised they didn’t make y’all wear gloves to touch the items. Not even the guy showing them. My husband worked in several history museum collections departments and they always had to wear gloves to touch paper or fabric items. Photo shoots are fun. Y’all are so frigging cute.❤ And talented sewists.
Yes, I am a quilter and when I go to a quilt show, I cannot touch any of the quilts displayed on the wall. They call over people with gloves to lift up the corner so you can see the back.
The latest standards for conservation and curators are that gloves are not recommended for most textiles. Clean, dry hands are considered best practice for most situations. If gloves need to be worn while handling textiles, they are usually nitrile gloves since they are the most sanitary and don't limit your tactile feel as much as cotton gloves. Gloves are not recommended anymore for textiles because they limit your ability to feel the fabric, which can cause accidental damage from handling (i.e you can rip the fabric more easily in cotton gloves than with bare hands because the gloves make it harder to feel the tension in the fabric, etc.). Cotton gloves also carry dirt and bacteria, are never truly clean after the first wear, and the small fibers can snag or damage textiles. Nitrile are better than cotton gloves, and are what usually exist in museum nowadays if gloves are worn. Nitrile gloves are recommended if there are metallic threads or buttons in the garment, to protect the metal from tarnishing, if the garment is considered "dangerous" - so to protect you from the garment, or if you can't maintain clean hands easily - so it's simpler to throw on nitrile gloves and remove them as needed. This doesn't mean that all museums have updated their practices, some are still following old standards and protocols, it just depends on who is in charge.
@@AbbyCox Thank you. Very interesting. I cannot remember what kind of gloves they wore at the last quilt show I went to. I do remember that they wore gloves, tho, cause I got chastised by someone for looking at the back of a quilt. I had not touched it, tho, because there was a metal clip on it, and I only touched the clip. Luckily I had a witness! lol Quilts are serious business!!
There was a lady in all white with a white hat that is totally Marguerite from the scarlet pimpernel. The version from the 80s With Sir Ian McKellen and Jane Seymour. Very cool.
OMG - I love the hem of that one dress - the loops of fabric probably looked fabulous sweeping the ground. I'm going to have to find a way to do that on something.
I appreciate the bed chats where you give context for all the things that happened! If only looking at the footage, it looks like you do really much right after each other, but getting aware that these stuff happened on separate days and there was resting/just chillin out in between makes it seem so much more managable and I don't get overwhelmed at the thought. It seemed like you had a really good time!
I keep going back to that green ombre dress at around 7:00 with the pattern that didn't take the dye or was embroidered on afterwards? Couldn't tell but it was pretty neat!
The museum was amazing! It's so nice to see the behind the scenes things! The vlog was great the fact that you remembered at all was also great! You're there to have fun. Anything you film for us is more than we should expect!
Thank you for the skilful filming of so much fabulous detail of the museum pieces. What a fantastic collection. Really behind the scenes at the museum!
I say the name of it right before I go in there! I don’t remember off the top of my head because there are two museums with wildly similar names, so maybe scrub through the video for it?
Thank you for the museum footage. Such creative and beautiful use of colour, texture and fabrics. Almost makes me wish we wore that many garments today - so much realestate to play with!
Those shoes and boots are amazing, will definitely be watching Nicole to see where she’s gotten her next inspiration from. Those dresses and furs were also stunning. So glad you all were able to get in and see such fabulous items.

Ty for the interesting old clothing. A lot of green. Was that all one person's wardrobe? Unique details. One maker do you think? More people are catching the dress up ball vibe. I've cut back just watching you and Nicole. What do you ( persons) do with those pictures? I did pu a copy of the Victoria magazine when Christine was featured in it. You look really good with make up.🩷 Back reading my Heart Smart book a relationship book , make smart decisions before you fall for a jerk 😅...anyway thanks again.
Oh lord no! That collection has thousands and thousands of pieces and I showed probably 250 years worth of clothing! I also showed labels from several different designers as well as hand made suits from the 1700’s! As for the pictures, I put mine on Instagram and also keep them for myself. Someday I will be old and these will be super fun to have!
Thank you for showing so many of the clothes at the museum. I love a good behind-the-scenes. St. Louis is really beautiful during autumn. Glad you got to see that.
How many shoes did Nicole drool over? Was there any article you *didn't* want to pet, just to feel the texture? So many gorgeous prints and styles. Such an amazing opportunity. Thank you for sharing! What's the women-to-men ratio? Looks like 25:1 🤣
The museum fashion and accessories were exquisite in their design, tailoring and embellishments. The stories of their creation, actual real-life use and how they ended up in this museum would fascinating to hear. Fun to see so many familiar faces at the ball, especially Abby doing early 21st century moves while in much older century's attire. I am following lots of trials (JH-ACH, Murdaugh) on You Tube so this vlog was the fresh air I needed.

I have absolutely no idea how I stumbled onto this right now but I had completely forgot how very pregnant I was at the St Louis ball until seeing myself in this video 😂 I almost didn't go because nothing fit.
What a wonderful time!! It all looked like such a blast. Another great video!! I have a question...what did you use to affix the teeth? Hopefully not what they come with. That cam damaged the teeth. Next time, I recommend powdered fixodent. So much easier and better for the teeth. Just fill the fang cavity with the powder. And wet your own tooth. Place it on your tooth (without exhaling 😊) and swish your mouth with water and it is attached. And. Just pull to take it off. That is the only way I wear my fans.
"Sorry if you see any of my underwear..." Yes... sorry if youre seeing any of my MODERN UNDERWEAR! after seeing me in my HISTORICAL UNDERWEAR for the last 5 YEARS!😂😂😂

You look gorgeous! But you do what I do! Get whatever requires makeup over and done with and then go wash my face lol! I put this on a couple of costumers that do medieval stuff.
