On the surface it seems like a happy scene because of the music, confetti, cheering, and smiles. But there are subtle clues to suggest the ending is actually much more ominous like the emperor’s theme, yoda’s wariness, and obi-Wan’s uncertainty. That a celebration that is supposed to herald peace is actually the lead up to a massive war, wide scale murder, and political takeover is both chilling and ironic. It’s the perfect setting to end the first installment in what is the biggest tragedy of Star Wars.
Yet another great example of John Williams absolutely carrying the movie. I mean, the actual scene isn't terrible or anything, but the score just makes it so much more hype and satisfying

There is two clever foreshadowing moments in this scene. Firstly Palpatine telling Anakin he will watch his career with 'great interest' foreshadows Anakin becoming Vader and us seeing only one side of Palpatine at 3:11 hides the fact he is the Sith lord the Jedi were after.
He also looks kind of morose that his apprentice got splinched by Obi-Wan :) I fell down a horrible (but interesting) 6 hour long rabbit hold on Wookiepedia / Star Wars wiki, reading about the lore and such -- I feel sorry for what Darth Maul was forced to go through in life
@2:22 is also a forshadowing- its a visual reference to Vader's cremation at the end of the Return of the Jedi, the conclusion of Vader's journey happened the same way that it started.

Little did they know that Qui Gon's Jinn's death was only the first of many Jedi. It's too bad that Anakin and Obi Wan didn't talk more or mention Qui Gon during this final scene. All the major characters are from the Original Trilogy are here, Darth Vader, Obi Wan, Yoda, and Emperor Palpatine. They should've done some comics that take place a few months after the end of The Phantom Menace, would've been nice the early days of Anakin's training with Obi Wan.
Well before George Lucas removed from continuity, the 2003 Clone wars series had Anikan briefly snap at Obiwan for not having Quigon’s wisdom before apologizing, and Obiwan assuring him the he missed him too.
More like TPM and ANH, both films end with a large battle station getting destroyed by two proton torpedoes from a Skywalker who's Force-sensitive, both films have a great celebration with a member of royalty at the end, both films have a plot around rescuing a queen/princess
I have to admit that growing up right before AOTC came out, there were sometimes when I liked to watch Phantom Menace and then the next day watch Return of the Jedi.
Phantom Menace obviously has it's flaws (like, a LOT), but I also respect the vision and heart that Lucas put into it and scenes like these can't help but put a smile on my face

I remember that Dave Filoni said tahta Qui-Gon was meant to be the father figure of Anakin, but Anakin's destiny wad decided when Qui-Gon was killed by Darth Maul. What I like about Qui-Gon's funeral is that it is a similar to Anakin's funeral. It's like Anakin died as his father figure, which is something awesome to me. *Revenge of the Sith* absolutely used to be my favorite in the 6-film franchise. And in some ways, it still is. It's definitely joint 2nd place with *The Phantom Menace* , as *Attack of the Clones* is my no.1 favorite. I've loved the Prequels ever since they came out and I still do, to this day.. If not more. And that's coming from someone who grew up with the Original Trilogy in the mid 90's. The Prequels are PURE Star Wars and I owe it to George Lucas, so much.. For his vision, his storytelling, his craft.. You name it. George's Star Wars *IS* Star Wars. Disney's, on the other hand.. Couldn't be further from it.

It’s funny how time can prove people wrong… Back in 1999 everyone kinda hated this movie, now, kinda everyone loves it…
That's basically how people started with the OT, not everyone loved it at first but as it aged it got better. However I will never accept those poorly made Sequels.
