Running Bison (Big Lone Bull runs across an open plain)

A bull bison shows how effortlessly he can run across the open plain of the Tawayik Lake Trail at Elk Island National Park. Glad it was away from us as I quickly realized if he wanted to flatten us there was no way I could outrun him. It was a really impressive display of the power and agility he has and even though a herd of bison running is impressive as well, focusing on one running alone shows the fascinating gait they can run with. It reminded me of gazelle pronking on the Serengeti.
We had been carefully working our way through the field and "negotiating" with keeping a peaceful encounter while carrying on with our hike. This bison was disturbed by a third hiker who came over the hill and startled the bison into running. I do not support purposely disturbing wildlife to see them run. Always stay a safe distance away and be aware of your surroundings, not just with bison but all wildlife.
