Willmore Wilderness Area Backcountry Hiking Trip - The Wild Hay River and Seep Creek
We made a two-night backcountry hiking trip into the Willmore Wilderness Area. It's a very enjoyable area nestled in among the Rocky Mountains. If you go be prepared as there are a number of water crossings in the area. It's also a popular area for horseback riding so there will be a fair amount of horse manure along the trails and at campsites.

Cute Meerkat on Guard Duty at the Edmonton Valley Zoo (Slender-tailed Meerkat)
Переглядів 4416 годин тому
Meerkats have a complex social structure to their family. For the safety of the group, one meerkat will often serve as a lookout for danger. Today, this one was sitting upright and monitoring the zoo patrons and possible dangers overhead. Even though they were very serious about their job, they still look cute. Cuteness Overload! Meerkat in Bed at the Edmonton Valley Zoo (Slender-tailed Meerkat)

The Slender-tailed Meerkat is one of the many inhabitants at the Edmonton Valley Zoo. They have two enclosures - one outdoors and this one which is indoors. They are incredibly difficult to catch on video when they are on the move. The indoor one has a heat lamp positioned over a little bed. We have a Patreon account for those would like to support us! Lucy the Elephant at the Edmonton Valley Zoo, August 2024
Переглядів 1,1 тис.14 днів тому
Lucy the Indian Elephant lives at the Edmonton Valley Zoo. She is about 48 years old, and is in semi-retirement, so she is not on public display but sometimes can be seen when she is out for walks with her handlers. Watch as she dines on some grass and fans herself with her ears. You can hear her midway through the video. There has been a great deal of controversy about having an elephant in a ...

An Afternoon in Hinton, Alberta - the Beaver Boardwalk and Happy Creek Trail System

Hinton is usually a place that we pause at to grab some lunch and gas before carrying on to the mountains. Our most recent trek included an overnight stay in Hinton so we could get an early start the next day. New Gear and Wild Foraging in the Forest - Training Hike in the Whitemud Creek Valley, Hike 1

Lots of seeds and berries are ripening in the Whitemud Creek, and I had a new backpack to test out as we were planning a backcountry camping trip in early August. Unfortunately it got postponed due to the Jasper wildfire as it was too close to the area we had been planning to visit. Tag along as I see and try several berries in the forest. Combating Coyotes - Pups have Moved into our Backyard!

Now that was quite the adventure!! I'd probably deal better with the cold water crossings more than manure...especially at the campsites. All in all though I can imagine it was quite a wonderful experience.

A wow of a hike, dear Donna. I've hiked a bit in both the Canadian Rockies and the American Rockies, but nothing as deep in the woods as this. How very wonderful for those who can accept the challenges and bring knowledge of the terrain with them, as you have! A great, great video! Thank you! Linda

This looked like an awesome backpacking trip. I just saw my first grouse recently while hiking in Nevada. They do walk like chickens. That was a great idea to bring the water shoes for the creek crossing. That one crossing looked tough because of how fast the water was moving. I liked seeing all the interesting things you pointed out - from flowers to bugs to rocks. It looks like you had a very nice area to camp at too.

It was so awesome getting to hike here. I would hate to see the river in spring when there is more water flowing. And yeah, it was pretty fast and had some push - kind of why I didn't film myself walking as I wanted both hands for my poles to help keep my balance. Grouse really are awesome birds and it seems so funny how they prefer to run rather than fly. Hope you have a great weekend!
