  • In this video I take a more adventurous hike to South Crocker, North Crocker and Mount Redington. This hike is an 11.5 mile Loop that involves taking an unmaintained herd path to the Summit of Redington. This was a hike to stretch myself a bit as I needed to use waypoints in order to find my way along the herd path section to and from Redington. While I had multiple sources of navigation (along with a satellite device) I ended up using AllTrails because it had the perfect loop already to go with Waypoints marked along the path that seemed pretty accurate and worked for me. I didn't get much footage of the last 4 miles of this route because by that point I was soaked and was just focused on moving my feet to the car lol. It had also started raining pretty hard and I couldn't keep the GoPro lens clear of water droplets. One thing to be aware of that wasn't shown was the section before you get back down to Caribou Valley Road, (depending on weather) for me there were a ton of boggy areas covering the entire road/trail that were unavoidable. I ended up walking straight through them with my boots on of course, and that added to the wetness factor lol. Wintertime will be much easier as everything will be frozen, or during a much more dry season when the ground is firm.
    Thanks for watching this video!
It Is very important to know your limits and to prepare yourself mentally, physically and with the proper clothing and gear necessary in case of emergency. While I don't touch on all the points for hiking safety and navigation I hope that you will do your homework before heading into the backwoods! :)

Bushwacking is fine but I think I enjoy the open country better. I understand your reasoning for bushwacking because it challenges your mental capacity and to stay focused and to keep that fear factor under control, that you can eventually work through it if you stay calm and keep your head clear. You're doing a awesome job and it's obvious you're a professional in your field.

I'm bummed we didn't get to see any more of the logging roads - we had considered venturing that way when we were there in the summer. As for established trails vs. off-trail - I generally keep to trails though I'll be doing more and more bushwhacks as I work on my Hundred Highest list. Here in New England they can be pretty rough plowing through spruce and thick brush.

I did this combination one summer. But it was in the clockwise direction. Redington first, and then the Crockers! The bushwach was soooo much fun!!

Nice bushwack! What was the technical difficulties you ran into on the first peak that you couldn’t get footage for?
