This was a great video. As a fan of both 50 and Jay, it always seemed like friendly competition, was no real beef, 2 rap/businessmen competing for the top spot
From this documentary I learnt that beefs are just another important marketing technique that hiphop artists use. 50 and Jay are great business man. Respect their intelligent
It's clear they have always had a lot of mutual respect for each other. 50 felt he was on the same level as j and is extremely competitive. Jay felt he had the longevity and a better flow but knew 50 was hot, aggressive and creative with the support of eminem and dr dre and a head to head beef wasn't a good idea
People really can’t believe that Jay-Z is a hating-jealous type dude. Dudes be insecure, jealous, and socially awkward, and money don’t cure that…it amplifies it. 50 is a straight up dude. Very talkative charismatic and likable.
14:18 Jay-Z did kind of respond a little to 50 Cent's Be A Gentleman, in his song Streets Is Talking "If I shoot you, I'm brainless, different toilet, same shit and I'm sick of explainin' this" a reference to when Jay-Z said the line in his song Streets Is Watching but also a shot at 50 Cent as 50 Cent twisted the lines in Be A Gentleman. Also when Jay-Z says "You wanna conversate wit the writer of the Qur'an or old Testament, don't test him then" another shot at 50 Cent as well as his song Ghetto Qu'ran
Also Jay Z sneak dissing 50 Cent on "30 Something". «I'm from era when niggas don't snitch, you from era snitching is the shit I afraid of the future(Why?) You respect the one who got shot I respect the shooter» This is shot at 50 and The Game.
I know these take time to make and source material to base them off, so I’m always happy to see a new addition to this series. Thanks for the work bro.

Kanye and 50 allegedly have cooked in the studio before, so the tracks do/did exist. It was around the time when G-unit was hot too, according to Yayo and some others. I'm sure the reason why it never saw the light of day is that Jay Z deaded those projects. We all know how Jay moves lol
Props and shout outs to both J AND 50 for being competitive, loving the sport of what they're passionately into, and acting like true professionals. And absolutely no real life fisticuffs, gun shots or actual physical violence. Glad to see these two acted like grown adults the whole time instead babified 5 year-olds resorting to Neanderthal violence. There are various levels to beef .. So when you say "disagreements" that's basically one of the smaller , less serious levels of beef , like the 50 and Jay beef
I come from a very small village in Africa and had to opportunity to go abroad and believe me when I tell You 50 cent is known there and she of his songs get listened to but only the hardcore fans of HipHop who are small minority know about Jay Z.
Is there a more iconic rap album cover than Get Rich Or Die Tryin'? I grew up listening to metal and didn't start really listening to rap until well after high school, but even as a kid I remember seeing that album cover everywhere in stores without even really knowing who 50 Cent or G-Unit were and thinking it was fucking sick.
It's pretty iconic but various Kendrick Lamar covers like GKMC or damn, forest hill by j Cole. Another one that pains me to say is that one album cover by lil Uzi vert even though it's dog shit u can't escape social media without someone having a variation of that cover as their profile picture.
If Ye would study the way 50 communicates, always calm cool & collected and no matter what the issue, he maintains that even keeled tone & usually dropping knowledge. It's not always the message, the messaging is just as important if you wanna be heard & taken serious by more peeps.
Exactly this, people keep saying that Kanye has said good things and some of his comments and it's like okay yeah but when you don't have any tact or etiquette when you're speaking, and you're disrespecting people, that's going to be glossed over of course.
@@williefaulker Without a doubt. Especially, from someone like Ye who has a history of erratic behavior, rants, outbursts and also hitting others with shrapnel because he's passionate about an issue/event. There's many people, especially those who aren't hip hop heads and/or fans, still view Ye, as Kayne West from the Taylor Swift award show incident. While it's a more trivial issue. And not like I care about award shows, pop music or Taylor Swift for that matter. But, whether I agreed with him or not that Beyonce should of won the award & sure af wasn't watching it live. Lol. My wife watches all those award shows, and do remember her calling me in from another room when it happened. Regardless if Beyonce should of won or not, Taylor Swift didn't have anything to do with it. If I remember correctly, she was still a teenager & it was the 1st award she had ever won. Ffs, I think most people know that award shows are usually bs & a lot of times those who should win haven't. Even the George Bush comment, saying he don't like Black people. Lol. I know that most just took that part of the clip & ran with it, instead of going back and watching the entire interview & understanding what he meant by it. That's the snippet that the media is gonna run with. And as an MC who knows the importance of putting words together, he's never been great at putting a message out. Him playing the victim is tiresome when the reason he doesn't get taken serious or that some will always just say "it's kayne being Kayne again" is his own damn fault. This situation is pretty similar. When you go & group an entire race, religion, color etc. By saying "Jew" or "Jewish", automatically you're gonna piss of the majority of the Jewish community, the same way you would if you said "black" "white" "Hispanic" "Asian" etc. It's on the messenger to be more nuanced about who or what they are specifically referencing. The onus isn't on the listener to put on their Ye decoder ring on & analyze what he's saying.
You really need to do Jay-Z and DMX. Because DMX was top of his game when that problem started and we know kinda how it went. There’s 2 sides to every story but you know DMX’s side is the rawest.

I was kind of skeptical of this video but everything he’s saying on the video is accurate. This is a valid historical account of what happened. Hip Hop is great.
When it comes to things like mixtapes, hooks, adlibs, presence, live performances, emotion, delivery, passion, energy, cadences, and song structuring I give it to 50. But when it comes to flow, punchlines, albums, sales, critical reception, reviews, downloads, wordplay, story telling, freestyling, message, longevity, versatility, voice, sound, speed, consistency, creating there own styles, and creativity I give it to Jay yeah.
This whole beef would have been placed in better perspective if the album sales of each artist had been mentioned. Jay did very good numbers during all this period while 50’s had been steadily declining after Massacre, especially with Before I self Destruct and then Animal Ambition, which made him look like he was not on Jay-Z’s level any more. Regardless, this video is excellent as always, I admire your professionalism, which is rare in this field. Keep up the good work!

I hope you see this comment, I wanted to ask if you could do a video on explaining what happened between DeathRow records and Bad Boy records in the 1990’s. This beef between these two record labels had two of the biggest names in rap, and it would be nice if you could make a video about it because there’s a lot that happened in the West Coast vs East coast beef. Tupac vs B.I.G.. Tupac telling Nas in his face that he dissed him and everybody such as Jay Z, everything about that beef. I really enjoy your videos because you are like a Journalist when it comes to beef and history of hip hop.
Jay-Z was always one step ahead. You have to understand you’re going up against a natural introvert that has no problem starving you for attention. He showed 50 the difference between how you move in the streets and how you move in the boardroom. Jay forming relationships with everyone allowed him to stay on top for an abnormally long amount of time. 50 burned too many bridges.
50 Cent and Jay Z are both legendary. When 50 Cent and Jay Z were starting their beef, I was not even born yet. When the beef between 50 Cent and Jay Z continued, I was a new born baby. Now, everything between them is okay. Peace.
All in all I’d say a full beef with 50 wasn’t gonna be to Jigga’s advantage and image and 50 had more to gain from it all. Also 50 had a lot of backing and with his antics, Jay couldn’t compete on that petty level but Beanie being used by 50 was the most embarrassing bit of it all especially with Jay-Z warning them to flood the market.
@matthew mann When it comes to things like mixtapes, hooks, adlibs, presence, live performances, emotion, delivery, passion, energy, cadences, and song structuring I give it to 50. This statement that you stated is Facts# on 💯

That shit he did too Nas years after beef was over when he and his wife dropped there album on the same day was wild! Def always felt that was sneaky af ..
I remember hearing Wanksta on the 8 Mile soundtrack, thinking that shit was fire. The beat was just sounding different compared to alot of east coast music at that time and 50s flow was DIRTY dirty. That mumble added something gangsta to his cadence and it just hit. Then all of a sudden you start watching TV and see 50 cent pop up upside down on a ceiling and you hear; "GO. GO. GO. GO. GO SHAWTY. ITS YA BIRTHDAY." After that, you couldn't walk down the damn street without hearing 50s voice somewhere or someone talking about 50. Then came the G-Unit Clothes and EVERY single person and their mama had some g unit hoodies, hats or sneakers. When ppl say 50 blew up like nobody else, 50 cent blew up like NOBODY ELSE. it was crazy to see happening lol
I don’t know as being a 90s baby. 2003 was an escapable when it came to 50 Cent. And just prior to that, the Eminem show in 2002? Forget about it. Such a great time. Aftermath, Shady & G-Unit were killing it.
Jay Z just 1 of them ppl that believes him going to war with you would make you bigger, I mean it's true I'm from the West but I got Jay Z as the GOAT, Funny thing is I was never a big Jay Z fan growing up, I didn't appreciate his music until I aged, He did numbers and his lyrics are top notch, He knows how to pick his beats and knows HITS, lyrics mixed with great selection equal GOAT, He the only one that can shut shit down off 1 verse today that's power

50 Cent disses Jay-Z & Cam'ron in the original version of his song Back Down. Kim Osorio who is a former editor of The Source magazine and had slept with 50 Cent in 2003, talks about the original version of Back Down and 50 Cent running into The Diplomats and something popping off in her 2008 book Straight From The Source This is what she wrote in her book: When we got back into the rented SUV, 50 popped in a CD and started adjusting the knobs on the car stereo. "I want you to hear something." Then, with his baseball cap cocked to the side covering his doorag (as if a doorag were a fashion statement), he started nodding his head as the beat started to play. "G-g-g-g-g-Unit." Now he was lip-synching the words to a song called "Back Down." This was a different version from the one that would make the album. The song dissed everybody. Not just Ja Rule and Murder Inc., but Jay-Z, Cam'Ron, and others. In particular, the lines that stood out were a reference to Ja Rule sounding like the Cookie Monster, a line where 50 called Jay-Z gay, and a dis to Cam'Ron's pink fashion sense, and sudden weight loss. I knew from 50's first album (which never came out) that this was the formula to his success. It was all about putting everyone on blast and talking recklessly on records. But this was song was worse than "How To Rob" "Are you really going to put that out?" "I don't care.I'll put it out, but Dre and Em don't want me to," he replied, before quickly switching the subject 50 put his CD back into the car stereo and I heard the "Back Down" record play again. I only heard that version twice while I was in Los Angeles, but I never heard the same version again. When the album came out, an edited version of the song was on it. It kept the disses to Ja Rule and Murder Inc., of course, and chopped out all the rest. The song is like a pink elephant in hip-hop, because no one will admit that it actually existed. The vibe felt really friendly, so I started fishing for information. So I heard you ran into Dipset out here and something popped off. You think they heard about the record you did?" Sha Money XL overheard our conversation and interrupted, "What record? There's no record." "The Back Down' record I heard in L.A., where he's dissin' Cam" "He ain't dissin' Cam on that record" Sha Money interjected. I was confused. I knew I had heard the dis on the song, but it was like a jedi mind trick because I started second-guessing what I'd heard. Did I really hear him mention Cam? I looked at 50 for validation, but he didn't say anything. Then when Sha turned his back, 50 rolled his eyes back and waved his hand. "I don't care, but he gotta act like that" "What's the big deal deal? You already said it." "They probably gonna take it off" Sha Money XL has said "There was another version of Back Down and that shit was so brutal even Dre said you gotta change it. He was the OG with the last say so he changed it. I remember recording that in the basement and the way Dre had him doing it over [giving instructions]. Dre loved it though"
8:01 - 8:24 it's funny but 50 nor Jay-Z was the first to come up with that lyric "Somehow the rap game reminds me of the crack game". It was actually Nas who said it in his first album in 1994 on the song Represent.

If Ye would study the way 50 communicates, always calm cool & collected and no matter what the issue, he maintains that even keeled tone & usually dropping knowledge.
It's not always the message, the messaging is just as important if you wanna be heard & taken serious by more peeps.
Yeah 50 usually is easier at keeping a check on his temper more of the cold rage then the hot rage yeah.
I never really noticed but you’re right I never seen fiddy really get mad or yell. He always calm and laid back

50 Cent disses Jay-Z & Cam'ron in the original version of his song Back Down. Kim Osorio who is a former editor of The Source magazine and had slept with 50 Cent in 2003, talks about the original version of Back Down and 50 Cent running into The Diplomats and something popping off in her 2008 book Straight From The Source
This is what she wrote in her book: When we got back into the rented SUV, 50 popped in a CD and started adjusting the knobs on the car stereo. But this was song was worse than "How To Rob" "Are you really going to put that out?" "I don't care.I'll put it out, but Dre and Em don't want me to," he replied, before quickly switching the subject
50 put his CD back into the car stereo and I heard the "Back Down" record play again.
You already said it." "They probably gonna take it off"
Sha Money XL has said "There was another version of Back Down and that shit was so brutal even Dre said you gotta change it. He was the OG with the last say so he changed it. I remember recording that in the basement and the way Dre had him doing it over [giving instructions]. Dre loved it though"
You learn something new every day
@@Braylon1997 I believe it
Your videos are top tier! Always like all the details you add to it!
8:01 - 8:24 it's funny but 50 nor Jay-Z was the first to come up with that lyric "Somehow the rap game reminds me of the crack game". It was actually Nas who said it in his first album in 1994 on the song Represent.
Another great informative video @Diverse Mentality. This one for sure was a classic!
My guy. What happened to asking about the Doctors Advocate video lol
@@winterchase4558 I do. Check the community posts, I don't usally comment on videos asking for it. Quake been busy hasn't posted any news for me to spin 😁
real rap fans... not corporate rap fans... we rock with 50. hes the last REAL GANGSTER RAPPER we will ever witness.
Bruh 50 is the most corporate rapper besides Jay lol
This doesn’t make sense lol. They’re both super corporate. If anything 50 abandoned music for business.
I bought Jay-Z Volume 3 in 99 but never heard 50 cent until the Wanksta single came out in 02 so the "who the F is 50 cent?" line didn't make sense to me.
Gay-z 😂😂😂
50 said Jay always sent his soldiers to battle his beefs like Memphis Bleek etc... he was right... But Jigga still that Nigga📌
Jay did go at Nas And Mobb Deep at least.
Illuminat puppet
You are who you hang with and you know what he did and separated yourself from him and don’t want to rehash the past

The beef seemed one sided to me especially during the Animal Ambition days. 50 always gave me hurt fan vibes.
Imagine supporting a man that went to Epstein island 😂
Jay Z prime was from 1998-2003 and 50 prime years was from 2002-2007

I’m so glad I stumbled across this channel. You best believe I’m binge watching everything
