Because he was shot in the mouth, he couldn't rap the way he did before, had to reinvent him self and start from scratch. He worked hard and made the "Guess who's back" mixtape. Eminem heard his stuff before, like "Life's on the line", but "Guess who's back" was the mixtape he convinced Dre with to sign 50. They didn't even know he continued to make music after he was shot, everyone one back at the time thought it was a wrap. But 50 always says he owes Em a lot, because Eminem was the only one to believe in him and give him an opportunity
