Very good video. Thank you! I'm going to be doing my timing belt and water pump kit next week, I greatly appreciate you taking the time to do this 2 part video!
if it's the stock tensioner just replace it. I did this job about 4 months ago and my hydraulic auto tensioner just blew out the back. the factory uses a thin press in plate on the back side and my vice damaged it just enough that it looked ok but after a while the back popped off and my timing went off because the belt no longer had tension. it's a little more expensive (60ish on rockauto) but you're already saving a ton doing this job yourself. make sure you don't have to come back and do it again, or worse.... destroy your engine
If I want to replace the hydraulic tensioner, will the belt come out of place when I take it off . Any help would be greatly appreciated. The hydraulic tensioner is is making the famous knocking noise.
I have a question. my rear cam gear shifted clockwise as i’m putting the belt on. It must of caught the compression and turned over. The mark on the gear is a couple inches to the right of the notch i have to align. What is the proper way to adjust it back on the mark? can i just turn the rear cam gear by itself clock waist 360 degrees till it hits the mark? then put the belt on? i’m afraid to turn anything and bend something. thanks!
+Romanautomotive hey nice video I don't think there is anything wrong with having a long video as you were saying I think it actually gives us more in depth explanation of what's going on and what to do if something isn't correct. The more info explained the better the job would be for a do it your selfer. Great job man nice videos keep up the good work.
Both heads will bend middle valves and smash rocker arms. Had it happen to a friend, fixed it with two used heads. Head gasket is stainless steel and we just reused it. Piece of cake compared to a lot of other motors.
Yep yup yeah yo. Easy job when shown by someone that don't live in a tree. Always do full kit including water pump every second belt change Always... I have done hundreds in my 60 miserable mechanic life.

Excellent Video! I got a question... To change the seals (cam) what it takes?

Any ideas where the top timing marks are right on but the crank isn’t? I though it was just bad rotation but nope

+Joe Hamradio I think Scotty Kilmer has the 3 minute timing belt jobs covered.
+RomanAutomotive haha yes I would agree
Roman, thanks for the video. When should the pulleys be substituted? Can we just change only the belt every time?
It would be a good idea to do it every time.
hi Roman.. the mitsubishi service. said don't change pump unless leaking.. you would think they would pad the bill for the work.. nope...
how long did it take?
do 04 endeavor 3.8 bend valves? my belt just went and I would like to know wat I'm getting into
