    Watching this because my car is at my mechanic's place being worked on (both valve cover gaskets being replaced, transmission flush, new ngk iridium spark plugs, going to full synthetic oil, new oil filter, air filter, and of course, new timing belt, and water pump kit).
    This gives me such an appreciation for ALL YOU MECHANICS out there. Shout out to all you Mechanics. We wouldn't be anything, anyone, or anywhere without you.

      Question about the transmission flush, I was told by a mechanic that flushing the transmission fluid wasn't a good idea if there's nothing wrong with it, just wondering if this is true, btw I have an 06 4G if it matters thanks.

    Your video is great! It is better than any training video I have watched for car or motorcycle, great detailed step procedures and advice about bolt replacing to keep track. After watching your video I know I could work through the same job on my 2007 eclipse GT 3.8. (In Time spot 4:12 bolt sequence) When I worked on my VTX 1800 I had bolts that needed to be in order, I numbered them and position as I removed them so I had their position. That way I did not have to mess with them. Thanks for your GREAT VIDEO and knowledge! EBW USN Ret.

    Please!!!! I want to warn others. When pulling the grenade pin on the tensioner. The distance he is talking about, the 4.8 to 6 mm is the distance from the aluminium tensioner housing to the pivoting pulley platform . Not the distance that it expands. The total distance the little plunger on the pulley is out of the tensioner until it comes in contact with the thing that moves.

    I've had this happen, where I just could NOT get the marks to line up. The crank would always turn counter clockwise a half a tooth, seemed like too much tension on that side (idler pulley side). I ended up giving up and taking it to a stealership. In the video you said if you can't get the marks to line up to give it another two full rotations and try again. Is there only one correct "cycle" in rotation that they line up initially. Im about to try this again in couple weeks, any advice would be appreciated! Sweet car BTW #Club4g4life

    • @JohnnyGT

      Should be done every 60,000 miles or every 6 years for the 2006-2008 model, every 100,000 miles or 6 years for the 2009-2012 model, don’t quote me on that, check your owners manual.

    • @JohnnyGT

      Valve lash adjustment does have to be done on this engine every 30k miles, when they’re out of spec, they do make a louder sound. These engines have a clicking sound that’s normal, of course you would have to determine if this is a different one or not

(you also rotated the tensioner pulley clockwise contrary to the manual, but why?)

      @@JohnnyGT It says the power steering belt is discontinued and you can no longer buy it. That has to be some kind of mistake right? Also why does the owners manual say if you live in CA, ME, VT you can wait until 100,000 to change the timing belt. Mine has 59,800 and I haven't changed it and the car is 17 years old. I'm not sure if the previous owner had it changed or not. That is what brought me to your channel.

    Is this an interference engine? There is a really nice 2009 gt for sale for really cheap, with supposedly a broken or slipped timing belt. The engine is probably destroyed. Idk

    • @JohnnyGT
      @JohnnyGT  2 роки тому +1

      Yes it’s an interference engine. More than likely, the engine is damaged, but sometimes people get extremely lucky and all it needs is a new belt

    I own a stock 06 GT with 105k, I am curious if you have a similar start up issue, the engine makes a small Top end knock (clacking) noise sometimes after cold starting (not always), run it for about 3-5 minutes restart the car and the knock is gone. The noise when it makes it only goes away after restarting the car after it's ran for a few minutes, if you don't restart it, it will make the noise until you park and restart, It's my daily driver It's done this since 55k any clue what it could be? Wasn't sure if you've experienced anything similar with the 3.8

      old comment i know, but the exhaust rockers are self adjusting which means they’re hydraulic. they use engine oil to adjust the valve lash of where the exhaust rocker arm contact the valve, so when at low oil pressure it’ll make that clacking (more than a mitsubishi normally does) until it builds enough pressure. read it from the tear stone manual (tearstone.com/eclipsefsm/2006_PS24S_MMNA_SM_PDF/GR00004600-15.pdf#page19) correct me if i’m wrong plz

    • @JohnnyGT
      @JohnnyGT  3 роки тому

      For 2006-2008 models it should be changed every 60,000 miles or every 6 years, whichever comes first. If you don’t know when it was changed, change it.
