That escalated quickly. I was like what in the hell lmao my brain melted for a second trying to calculate the amount of information that I was taking in lmao.
I get my rats at my pet store near work or a pet store. I always check them before buying. I got a ball python three weeks ago, and it wasn't eating, and I knew it could happen. But as soon as I got a size smaller, boom, it ate it in the night. At the moment, she doesn't eat when I present it to her, but she soon will as she gets used to me interacting with her. shes a het clown and is still a baby I cant wait for her to grow fully and come out more
I have a ball python who is a year and a half old. He has a big enclosure and gets fed 3 hoppers or 1-2 small mice a week. ( mainly hoppers because he is small ) He wont gain any way. He fluctuates between 175-220 grams. I dont understand because he never goes off feed ( except for the first 2-3 weeks i had him ) What should i do?
Hey SoftlySpace. Make sure your are feeding him prey that is just a little bit bigger than the thickest part of his body. From what I have seen, that tends to be the most common cause of the problem you are talking about. If you have any more questions, feel free to let me know!
My ball python is visibly getting larger, so I would feed her and wait until about the 4th night after and feed again, then wait about 8days and repeat the process. Just for the smaller ones though, I bought a 6 pack of bigger sized mice and will go back to about every 10 days with those. Any tips or thoughts comment section ?
My female pinstripe is about 6 months old. she is 400gms now, She won't eat anything frozen/thawed, I spent the money and I tried for weeks. She then would eat lg mice 2-3 at a time. I tried to get her on small rats, she took 1, but now she turns her nose up to them and will only take mice, and again they have to be live. ASFs are expensive but I would like to get to bulk up some, and I don't want to waste money on something she wont eat. what should I do.
Hey B Walts. Before I can properly answer your question, I would need to know what kind of setup she is in. (Example: What cage, bedding, hides, heating, etc...) I had the same problem with my Pastel 66% Het Lavender Albino, and all I did is covered her tank all around by taping paper to the sides, to make her feel the most secure, and went to my local rat breeder and got some used mouse bedding, (Bedding mice had been running around in all day.) I then would take the rat, frozen thawed or alive, and sent it with the bedding to make the snake smell the mouse instead of rat sent. Also, just so you know, if you give a snake with a feeding response like your's an African Soft Furred Rat, she will probably never want to eat a normal rat again. I hope this helps you and your snake out, and I wish the best of luck to both you and your Female Pinstripe Ball Python on solving this problem. Thanks for the question, and Welcome to the Channel!!! (P.S, I will probably just do a video answering your question and put in on the channel, if you don't mind)
she is in a 20gal Long. she has a hide on the cold side and warm side. I'm using reptibark, with the humidity between 55 and 65%. her tank temp is set for 86 degs.
Hey B Walts. It looks like you have a good setup, although I would bump up the temperature just a bit. I did a video answering your question, just so you know, and if you have any further questions, feel free to leave another comment or email me at benjaminsexoctics@gmail.com. I wish you the best of luck, and I hope you have a successful experience with your new pet!!!
Oh my gosh I had to double take on your channel. I was thinking that hes not like this he loves animals. Why would he say that. Bahahaha! You scared me. Great vid. Definitely they need the right food and portion.
My BP is 730 grams and 8 months old. She is not fat at all. At 600g she was 33in long. I cant measure her right now. I do it when I catch her stretched out. I'm worried she's going to be unmanageably big. All she wants to do is eat. Is this in the normal range? She will go apeshit if she goes hungry and she's really great at telling you she is
Perfectly normal. There isn't necessarily a certain size they should be at a given age because they start out at different weights and they have different feeding preferences and diets. That's a great size for her.
Oh, and don't worry. She's probably not going to end up a 10 foot long monster ball. I believe the longest recorded was 6½ feet long and around 8,000g, but she was a specific locality that tends to grow larger. Even reaching 6 feet is pretty unusual.
@Wingus Dingus, A lot of Ball Python growth has to do with genetics. I have had some Ball Pythons get to 1 year of age and are barley 400 grams, while I have had others be 2000 grams at just under 1 year. As long as she isn't obese feed her as much as she will eat and she will do fine.
@Fouad Alzaroui, I always recommend Perfect Prey or Rodent Pro, depending on how many you want to order and how long you plan to keep them before feeding them off.
Pro Tip: African Soft Fur rats, while smaller, have a notably higher nutritional value than common feeder rats (which, in turn, have a higher value than mice). The best bet for a young python is to get them onto ASFs as early as possible and keep them on them for as long as you can. If you can't afford a regular diet of ASFs, it's still good to use them as an occasional "treat" meal, to help boost their nutrient intake. Of course, if your snake is an especially picky eater, then stick with whatever you can afford to feed regularly, so as to keep from creating a feeding strike situation.
Hey Charles Eye. That is a great tip, and something I tried to do in the past. The only problem is that all of the breeders online I can find are always sold out, and the local breeders around me are always sold out as well. I would even breed my own if I could get my hands on a group or 2. If you could point me to any online breeders who have them, frozen or live, if that is even possible, that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for the Comment!
Benjamin Tritsch Actually, I'm having the same luck. I'm really hoping, if the word gets out more about ASFs and builds more demand, that will create a boom in the breeding. That way we can get to a point of having a high supply _and_ lower prices (just like the BP market did). I'm all about making the market work for us Everyday Joe's of the world.
I switched my ball pythons from rats to African soft furred rats (Native food) and they've grown a lot better, healthy sizes and not over weight. The main problem with this method is availability, not always easy to get hold of for everyone :/
Hey Aryzens Journey. I'm facing the same problem. I can't believe that the bigger companies aren't pumping out ASFs, as they sell for much more than normal rats and mice, and the demand is through the roof! Also, no body at the Reptile Shows I attend ever have them, and if they do they sell out very quickly.

Please help
Hey Amanda Zurita. Before I can properly answer your question, I'll need a bit more info. #1, Is she eating Rat or Mouse hoppers, #2, what is her cage setup, and #3 how often is she being held. If possible, a picture of her would be very helpful. My email is benjaminsexoctics@gmail.com. Hopefully with a bit more information I will be able to properly answer your question. So have a nice day to all
Hey Thomas Carlier. Very Interesting! I have only ever seen a few room sized cages, but if done right it can be very successful! Thanks for the Comment! :)
Well I ended up taking your advice and about a year ago I started my snakes on a regimen of elephant testosterone, HGH, Tren, and Sus! It worked, they are freaking huge and jacked now but the only problem is they lost all of their hair, broke out in crazy back acne and now have the tiniest hemipenes you have ever seen!
I was about to give you a ton of shit lol. I was like wtf he can't be serious. I grow my ball pythons fairly slowly but once they get to say 600g I do give them a chick or 2 every other month. Also my adult females over 3500g that are breeding I'll feed smaller chicken legs just before breeding season starts yes I said chicken legs. The calcium is really good for mom and follicle growth also increases clutch size. I have been keeping ball pythons for roughly 30 years breeding for about 15 years and doing the whole chicken leg thing for about 7 years and I've noticed no cons and all pros from doing this with my females in particular.
@DVL Exotics, very interesting! I had considered feeding baby chicks to problem feeders before, but I have never even considered chicken legs! Thanks for watching!
Hey Going fast. If you are saying that you don't think Ball Pythons should be kept in tubs, stay tuned! I will have a video on this subject coming soon... :)
Seriously do not make jokes like that in animal care videos. Someone will eventually mistake that as true and kill their snake. Be aware of the influence you can have on the uninformed.
Hey Shawn Martin. I fed live for my first 3 years of snake keeping, but overall frozen tends to be much more available and easier to get for me. Thanks for Watching!
You keep them in these tiny bins and they want to get out, why are you doing this? Abuse! And no, don’t tell me “they like small compartments”.. they like it if they are the ones who found them, they don’t like to be forced in small compartment. Give them large tank with lots of small caves. So they can stretch and feel freedom of exploration! I hate seeing shit like this being promoted to others.
@Red Queen Official, I do not keep my Ball Pythons in the tubs shown in the video. I used those simply for the video so I could better compare the two Ball Pythons more effectively.
When you said “inject steroids” I was about to click this video away

Is feeding them once a week good
Yes, as long as it’s the right size.
Yes once every Friday for more info I'll be posted on Friday and to feed them every week is better for them so they don't refuse their foods :)
How old are they here roughly ?
I noticed after feeding mine bigger mice he started to grow. I only feed him once a week.
I’ve had my ball python for about 7 months and he’s still Really skinny at the neck and a bit thicker at the body I don’t know what to do

I found out that if you feed your snake newborn puppies they grow faster
True story *wink*
@ZGB productions, I wouldn't recommend it. :)
Lol almost clicked next
Yeah you got me on that intro. I gave you a thumbs down an was like for real oh hek no but i gave it a min turned out to be a good video. Thumbs up
0:22 huh? Inject steroids, didnt your mom tell you not to do drugs

@kilogram 187, Lol! :) Thanks for watching!
Man i was about to skip the video and report! LOL
@Versus Exoctics, Lol! :) Thanks for watching!
Only reason I made it past the intro is the likes to dislike ratio 😂
@Cameron Mahaffey, Lol! :)
I was done when yooo said steriods😂😂😭
Mmm. Snake Enhancement...
You have them in tubs 😣😣
Hey Going fast. If you are saying that you don't think Ball Pythons should be kept in tubs, stay tuned! I will have a video on this subject coming soon... :)
It can help with humidity ,but okay get but hurt lol
I will
🐍👏🏿🐍
Takes time when they shed eat an drink they will get bigger over time
ibreed my own rats, i feed them vegetables everyday or fruits on occasions
But what if you actually did run a steroid cycle on a ball python 🤔🤣
Seriously do not make jokes like that in animal care videos. Someone will eventually mistake that as true and kill their snake. Be aware of the influence you can have on the uninformed.
Maybe inject the mouse ??? I dunno. I didn't like that statement
Got me
@Spent Brass, Lol! :)
Wth!! Lol i was about to click out of the video right before u said just playin..smh i was like "well no way am i doing that"
😂😂 almost lost me at the roids!
I only live feed mine ball pythons. Its nature so it doesn't bother me
Hey Shawn Martin. I fed live for my first 3 years of snake keeping, but overall frozen tends to be much more available and easier to get for me. Thanks for Watching!
I love live feeds
WTF DUDE injections... Glad it was a joke but still 😂
I almost back out this video bc you said steroids
You keep them in these tiny bins and they want to get out, why are you doing this? Abuse! And no, don’t tell me “they like small compartments”.. they like it if they are the ones who found them, they don’t like to be forced in small compartment. Give them large tank with lots of small caves. So they can stretch and feel freedom of exploration! I hate seeing shit like this being promoted to others.
@Red Queen Official, I do not keep my Ball Pythons in the tubs shown in the video. I used those simply for the video so I could better compare the two Ball Pythons more effectively.
Lol
