@@kaylaroachI have a question do garter snakes regularly musk because that is what is keeping me from getting them, I don’t really want a snake that regularly will musk while being handled
This species got me interested in snakes when I was a kid. My cousin and I used to catch them while waiting for my Aunt to rehearse whatever play she was in at the time during the summer. Great times and congrats on 2 very healthy, very active babies!
Dude, me too! My brother and I grew up in rural Michigan with a few acres of yard and lots and lots of woods behind our house. Every summer we would catch snakes around the yard in Tupperware containers and then release them at the end of the day. It was so much fun! We would catch garter snakes, racers, and hog nose. It was a dry area so no rattlers, fortunately.
Never been such a danger noodle fan but I have to say these nope ropes look quite cute. I never knew you could keep two slippery tube dudes together like that. Also great editing it’s really refreshing and original compared to the yt meta right now with big texts and hyper active voice overs.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! 😊 Some species, like garter snakes, can be housed communally thanks to their complex social behaviours! It’s very rewarding to observe snakes interacting with one another in such a way! 😍
Just a sidenote, a lot of us snake/herp enthusiasts hear “danger noodle” and “nope rope” for venomous or hot snakes. These snakes in the video are all harmless/non-venomous species and using those kind of terms for species that can’t hurt you or cause a medically significant reaction is actually harmful as other humans then see them as a threat. Not all snakes are danger noodles. More so the venomous ones, and even then we try to get folks to call them “spicy noodles” instead. I know you meant ZERO harm using those terms but I like to spread that knowledge as much as possible so we get less humans seeing snakes as “dangerous “ and then trying to kill them and getting themselves bit or they succeed in killing it and remove yet another necessary life from our natural environment.
Bendi watching was my favorite. Super cute ❤️ and those Garters are STUNNING. Some names that go alone with their red would be Ember and Blaze. Something of that sort.
Congrats and great luck with them. I absolutely adore the west coast garters. The red sided, puget sound,Santa Cruz, and of course, the San Fran. Gorgeous animals. Enjoy.

And after watching this, I just realize, some clips, for some reason makes the snake looks scary, while some, like this, makes me feel more at ease in their presence. part of it I guess they are still babies, the wobbly head is more relatable rather than a stare into my soul when they grow up haha

They are such a little cute things, the way it's looking at cam (7:39) is very similar to my Heterodon when I'm doing sth in terrarium, you can almost see the smirk on that face :)
as someone who work 5 years at the airport and in logistics hubs (office and warehouse) Ive seen how people handle packages and its amaizing to me how anything ever arrives not broken. the time pressure, awfull wages and terrible working hours make it so people dont care about the goods and its all about being quick. that being said we had lots of animal transports as well and of course people treat these package very differently. but the drivers that were tasked with animal transport were 100% always single sub-contractors and every animal transport was exclusive with no other goods inside and straight non-stop to its destination. never ever some common parcel service.
Awesome video kayla! I love garters and want to own and see more of them! They are very underrated and glad I got my hands n some! Keep awesome content coming this way! We need the scam story!
Well now I've got to have a Cali red sided! Cool lil snakes aren't they?! And just when I think they can't get any cuter, you had to go and feed em did ya 😁
On the subject of rare garters, there is a strip of beautiful habitat (fenced off, no public entry, protected by the airport) right next to San Francisco Airport, amid concrete and hustle and bustle. And there are San Francisco garters there. No doubt a limited population, but I am happy they are there.
You are so lucky!! I adore these snakes and think they’re some of the most beautiful on the planet, but because I live in California they’re one of the only species I cannot own myself as they are native and endangered. I’m sure you’ll do a wonderful job with them!
Endangered? Wow. The garter snakes I grew up with (NJ and PA) were so numerous, you could barely go outside without seeing at least one. Granted this was 45 years ago. I lost count of the number of times I was bitten by garters by the time I was 10.
Hi Kayla! I love the way you set up the enclosure for those cute little snakes. It fits them very well and I think they loved it too😁 Keep it up Kayla!
Yes the red sided garter really nice snakes and the ribbon garter and the chequered garter snakes I used to have all of these and I used to breathe or the different colour corn snakes
They are cute. I kept a Black Rat snake about 1 foot. . A Common Garter local from Chicago Illinois area about 2 feet And the real cute De'Kays brown snake about 3 inches. I am 57 years old now I had them when I was about 10 years old. There are lots of the Common Garter snakes where I live now. I always tell neighbors to please don't kill them, but call me I'll move them. Best pest removers. One year I found a breeding ball, very interesting to watch. The males were about half the size of the females who are thicker and longer. Wish I had thought to film it.
