Best episode of the season. What heartbreak and loss!! Mizu suffered soooo much. Betrayed and cast out by EVERYONE (except sword father of course) including the man she grew to love, and her mother. Is it any wonder she's as jaded as she is and has only one driving purpose in life?
“He is a good guy” 😭 man I wish!! Mizu looked genuinely happy when they were alright.
This is the first show I've seen that tells the past, present, and future at the same time.
Episode 5 is basically a perfect episode. The story inside a story structure was expertly executed in my opinion. Best episode of the season hands down.
I really like how in the scene where she walks away from their fight and we only see her face, the tears from the betrayal wash away the make up of the traditional wife. She tried to be this new person in a new life, to live a normal, traditional-ish life with her new husband. But the betrayal made her forgo that mask of the loving wife and become the Mizu we know, or rather, re-become the Mizu we know
I love how the episode starts out as an “obvious” one-to-one between the story and play, and then both take a huge turn, realigning the parallels. It demonstrates such amazingly complex storytelling.
They understand better than most the nuance of the human spirit. A person is not one thing.
Mizu is the Ronin AND the Bride
THE NAGINATA - The naginata is often, reductively and incorrectly, referred to as a “woman’s weapon.” The naginata was not considered a woman's weapon, at least historically, and its association with women began only after its semi-obsolescence by Edo. In the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, the blades were wider and shorter and often featured tsuba. They were extremely powerful, functional weapons. By the time the show takes place naginata were made for the training of bushi women ( almost )exclusively, with slender blades hafted to smaller, lighter shafts. These were unsuitable for warfare but deemed appropriate for women to use in home defense.
mizu is the bride, the samurai and the onryo in the puppet story.
Please Please Please pay attention to the last episode! It reveals who betrayed her! If you don't listen to what's being said you will miss it! So many fans of the show have missed it! It truly is a great show, and y'all reactions..... priceless 😂

when fowler said "...she did til the money ran out", that was when their hut burned down, mama left her/pretended to die cause she's not getting anything from taking care of mizu anymore.
then mama married her off for her husband's money too, so i dont think fowler's referring to this betrayal
@@jessedeguzman2325 Fowler is actually talking about when she was an adult. 1.When she was turned in they knew she didn't die in the fire. As the maid explained that would happen. 2. Her money ran out because Mizu and her husband didn't want to give her money for opium anymore. The moment that happened the guards showed up and she has opium. 3. Why would her husband turn her in just to come back twice (which makes no sense). 4. Why would the maid turn her in as a child and then go back to the house to be burned in the house with the child (which also makes no sense). But hey that's my interpretation of the conversation. We can both agree it's a good show.
This was my favorite episode of the series. The transition between the samurai's story and the puppet story was beautifully done.

Mizu has one of the most heartbreaking stories I have ever seen. This world made her into a monster.
My favorite episode too, the storytelling, the drama, the final fight scene were so on point.

I loved this episode so much. In the first few episodes I couldn't completely understand why Mizu wanted revenge on some unknown men so much? But after e05 I understood. And I absolutely loved watching it with you again.❤

This episode is so important as it shows that Mizu does have reason for seeming to be so cold. Not only the revenge story but the need to not allow anyone to get close. It’s not just part of her desire to complete her mission but born out of the pain of allowing someone in, allowing herself to feel love & loved only to be betrayed in the worst way.
Definitely the turning point episode

While it's possible to come up with various theories on who betrayed Mizu, either one, or both of them, perhaps the most tragic would be - neither.
This is one of the best episodes of any show out there. Ridiculously good story telling.
Now you truly understand why Mizu is the way she is.
Honestly, if I were married to Mizu I would consider myself the luckiest man in the world. Especially if she defeated with the same ferocity she did with her husband.
