    Hagen,Hagen, Hagen!! My heart skipped a beat when you made that cut down the length of the grip with your thigh right underneath. If you slip and hit the right/wrong place on your leg, you've got about two minutes left, and you'll leave a big mess behind, brother!

      Same thing i was thinking...1 slip and a cut femoral artery 2-3 minutes and lights out

      @@Whiskerdoo I thought the same, I use a pair of scissors ✂ for cutting the inner cords (ask me how I know)

    Wow just seeing this out of the box ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxQr1yd4Zc6qJF-scTB6Zb9dQbVpviuRxB recommend I have yet to fish with this set up, but based on the first hands on appeal, I can tell this is going to change the way i pack and carry to a whole new level. If you fish like i do, you know the smaller and less stuff the better. I’ve added a photo of just some of my gear so you can see how serious i am about fishing.

    Hagen, I have been wrapping rods with paracord for years and do it just like you do with the exception that I put down a layer of epoxy first. Never had one come loose and I do put a few drops of glue up against the reel seat. Great video.

    Looks nice and good work.
    I’ll give you a hint. There is a better way to finish your wrap and won’t need to pull thru with string. Not sure what the term is but it’s same as wrapping a bow serving.
    You wrap over your tag end then pull tight and don’t have to pull thru your end wraps.

    I enjoyed your video. I did a similar wrap to a B n M Silver Cat spinning rod with the exception that I super glued the ends to the last wrap and rod handle but I believe your method of drawing a portion of the covering sheath back through several wraps is superior and will undoubtedly last longer. I cautiously used a heat gun around the ends which fused the nylon wrap post super glue. I like your system better. Thanks for sharing.

    Great idea. I’m going to use x-wrap heat shrink tube over it anyway.. but I wonder if the clear flex seal would work! That way it doesn’t get nasty from bait, but still being able to keep the look of the paracord, and possibly extend the life of it.

    I have done several rods like this if you seal them with a clear urethane the blood and stink can’t get in the thread it takes a good bit you need to soak it in good and the cord won’t fade either

    • @adamhamasaki7418
      @adamhamasaki7418 4 роки тому +1

      What brand do you use and where can I get the clear urethane?

    • @jameshall2757
      @jameshall2757 4 роки тому +1

      Doesn’t really matter just a clear urethane I’ve used oil based and water based I do like the water based because of the easy cleanup. The trick is to saturate the cord completely. I use a rod drier to rotate the rod and build a drip pan out of aluminum foil to catch the mess soak it with a brush and come back later. You got to get it soaked in the first time because you can’t do multiple coats

I would have kept it and done this if I had known about it. Now that rod is unavailable and I can’t get another one. It was a 12 ft. surf rod. Other than the cork problem it was a great rod.

    I know this comment is 4 years after this video, but : I use paracord to handle wrap walking/hiking sticks. Once you get your wrap complete, boil a pot of water and slowly pour/trickle the hot water over the wrap. That will shrink and tighten the paracord even more.
