- This video is the tutorial on a basket weave paracord grip we finally got around to pairing with the blog post on Palmettorod.com that we did. There are a few editing issues within the video and we are working on what's best for editors and recording.

Scott’s guard spray for the seal
what is Scott's guard spray? I've often used Scotch Guard (hehehe ...seriously just teasing a ya).
I favor products by a company named Nike Wax. Nike Wax offers a decent variety of water proofing products targeted toward outdoor usage.
Beautifully demonstrated. However it took a moment to understand part of your prep was wrapping the handle with cork tape first. Now, regarding the paracord wrappings and real world fishing. Are you sealing the paracord to prevent any absorption of fish residue such as blood and slime that can create a breeding ground for odor and bacteria? Your trimming the cord before pull through carries over to regular thread wrapping where the end is pulled through to emerge the wrap for trimming. It would theoretically eliminate that final step of reburying that end and burnishing over. And have you tried gloves to prevent the physical damage to your hands you described?
Not for me. That would tear up with the Fish I catch. I can see this coming unraveled big time. It looks all pretty though. Little Constructive Criticism if its ok? When you get to the end and do the tuck, you are pulling Three cords through with your pliers making it difficult as well as loosing it after its done. Try using a Doubled piece of 100 pound Braid Fishing line. Its tough but thin making for a tighter ending.
Bill Briscoe have you tried a rod done this way?
@@PalmettoRod Yes! Its not for me brother. Not knocking it at all though.
Thank you for sharing, That was very interesting, could you do one on doing a turks head knot
We actually are going to be adding Turks to this so we can absolutely record the process.
Excellent video!!! You stated that you sometimes do the wrap with gutted paracord, do you find that it lays better or about the same. Thanks
It does lay flatter by gutting the cord. But it comes down to handle thickness preference.
Would you want to make four marks on the cork to make sure your keeping it straight
So your not supposed to flatten out or pull the sections of blue cord running parallel completely tight? They look rather loose if my eyes aren't deceiving me. Seems like it would be getting snagged alot of different things.
That's what I am saying too. Not for me.
Hello dear what is the name of the machine rotating you are Using
You should probably sharpen your tools. Cool grip man. I'm going to give it a try
but it adds like a pound to the weight of the rod.
what do you use to hold the paracord in place once the wrap is completed? If no epoxy is used, wouldn't it unravel over time?
The ends hold the overall wrap down. The cord grabs the cork tape.
Link those little snips for us please. Thank you
you could run 4 lines down the handle with a magic marker , that would help a lot to keep them blue lines running straight . :)
