  • Today I am finally going to get the new work shop organized. All my tools are strung through out pole barn and hard to find. So I have a new toolbox store my tools. And I got toolbox organizers for wrenches, pliers, and sockets to keep the toolbox nice and neat. Then we have some new shelving to assemble, and I will use them to store everything else. The garage will be less cluttered after today.

yep my dude swears to get organized too, but he literally has 3 or 4 of every tool & accessory so im not expecting miracles. I lovingly refer to his ever growing mess as the "spread" for obvious reasons. anyway thnx for sharing your "spread" with us.

I suggest white plastic 4 x 8 foot sheets of material to cover the foam on the walls. It has a pebbled surface and is held onto the wall with white plastic rivets. It’s used in 7-11 bathrooms, among other areas. Easy to clean and helps with the light levels.

That is a shop! With the exception of your dogs, there will very likely never be barnyard animals housed in it. Call it a shop, maybe a pole shed, but it is much more than a pole barn. Very nice and will be well worth it over the long haul.

The next level would be to invest in a labeler then label the totes on the shelves. That way you don't have to rely on memory where everything is located. Great first step

My best friend used to invite his wife down to the shop about once month during our nightly BS sessions. Mysteriously the next morning all his tools and such would be where they went, all our empty beer cans would be bagged up, and the floor would be swept up .

@@CountryViewAcres check with local appliance stores, a few refrigerator boxes tucked behind the edge of your shelving unit will help keep the oil off your shop floor. Another suggestion epoxy the floor with "stone coat floor epoxy " from stone coat countertop channel on UA-cam. They are the best, easiest to apply, most durable, and cheapest for the quality of their products. Makes clean up & messes so much easier to deal with. A friend owns an auto repair garage & put it down in his new shop. Says it was the best thing he spent his money on.

I would attach a 4x8 sheet od plywood to the wall and put your bolt bins on that, or on shelving you attach to the studs. We have one drawer for pliers and wire tools, one for wrenches and sets, one for hammers, one for sockets in their boxes.the lighter stuff goes in the upper drawers and heavier stuff in lower. Love your shelving system! We keep all our power(corded) tools in Their cases on them. Wish we had your square feet. If you can imagine all your tools and put them in a 16x32 area. Thats our shop, with a table for a metal lathe, wooden workbench and all our stationary tools ranged in three rows, with wheels so we can move them as needed.

I have the very same shelf system you have. The manufacturer does not mention it, but I do--anchor those shelves to the wall. Couple of screws near the top can save your life when things start to topple. I live in an earthquake zone (PNW) and so do you--the New Madrid Fault is less than 200 miles from you. But even without earthquake risk, shelves that high can topple when you are pulling a heavy tote off an upper level.

I have four of the Gladiator steel shelving units in my garage and I love them. They will hold 2,000 pounds on each shelf and that is a lot. I put a 1/2 inch board on the top of the wire mesh and cut them to fit and that adds even more strength to the shelving and you can put paint cans, motor oil containers, and other cans or bottles of fluids that you use. The garage is looking good.

Just like any job you need to be organized. I can't function if I can't find what I need to do the job.
I have automotive, electrical, wood, metal, fencing and everyday odd items.
I like them separated so it's easier to find what I'm looking for, depending on the project of the day.
A friend of mine also made a shelf for all his battery chargers and mounted it to the wall so his work bench was not covered with cables and batteries. He also put up peg board, painted them white, to hand hand saws, loppers, pipe wrenches. He out lined the item and painted it black. So, if something was missing or if someone else was putting tools away they could see right where they were suppose to be hung up. He also installed a triple electrical plug that pulled down from the ceiling which makes it great for keeping cords off the floor & not tripping over them. And his air hose is close to the front beside his compressor on a reel that makes it easy to use just outside the shop door to blow off the lawnmower deck & pulley area or pumping up on of the kids bike tires. Just in case he had a project going on the floor in the shop he didn't have to drag the hose thru his work area to handle these small jobs.
I would love to have a nice workshop, enjoy.

A small video idea, something random, perhaps a breakdown of your 41 acres and the land distribution between pasture, fields, ponds, grass that is mowed, orchard, etc. i think people getting into farming would find it helpful when looking at properties, and you can be sure to document the distribution now and see the change in a few years/decades. Nice shelves. surprising just how fast they fill up though. I now have about 6 in my basement against one long wall. All full of our "treasures". (stuff that probably needs pitched). The other useful thing to add to a garage is those wall mounted railings that allow you to do all kinds of versatile stuff like mount anything from a shelf to double hooks to hang bikes or your pole saw, etc. I can see one being used beside your new work bench to put a shelf on for your chargers so you don't have to move them when you want to wheel your new tool box somewhere.

Those shelves are very nice, I am going to check around my area to see if I can find similar ones, seems to be extremely handy and easy to set up!

Evan I'd suggest a pegboard on the wall for wrenches and screwdrivers, much quicker and convenient! Have you ever wondered why people pay $1000's of dollars for tool boxes like Snap On? Foolish!

Things are looking good! I will say I think you are going to need way more bench space for general use. I would build a 12' bench along a wall with a shelf underneath. Good place to mount a vise and really have a proper work surface. What are the plans for the interior walls? Ceiling? Heat?

Eventually I will put metal on the walls and ceiling. But the wood working half of the barn will be first.

Looking good! I need to do some organizing in my shop. That was a good idea on the shelves making three out of two units. Keep up the good work!
