All great tips and ideas sir👍🏻
My grandfather always taught me from my earliest memories of watching him work, then as I got old enough to start helping always stressed, a clean tool and neatly organized work bench and tool storage boxes are happy tools.
I’m proud to admit that in my 60+ years now I’ve always followed those words of wisdom.
Always enjoy your videos so much too and thank you till next time.

      I follow the same
Philosophy. Taught my kids the same thing. In the end, you will save time if you clean your tools and put them away. The next time you start wrenching, it will go much faster because you know where everything is.

I just spent the other day vinegar and peroxide dipping an entire bucket full of rusted (reeeaaaalllllly rusted) tools I'd found out and about, and then zinc electroplating them all again. (Some were kids stealing wm and leaving them out in the yard for god knows what) im So busy. So Many projects working late into the night, alot gets left around. Have multiple project cars, motor builds, home maintenance and upgrades, 40 chickens I had to build a big nice coop and run for recently, plus a never ending list of big projects. My garage is a MESS. I've been a mechanic (classic restoration and performance mods) for a living. Been an Ironworker for a living. Done construction for a living. I have alllllllllllll the tools. Probably 10 of each socket at least lol. Plus a big 5'×7' high power C02 cnc laser cutter/engraver in my garage. It's a MESS. My project today is to tame it and get it back to how I used to operate. Besides the never ending honey-do and must do list. The garage and my projects wad my happy place. And it's been unusable for a while. One car Parked in there and a billion other things and tools all helter skelter from late night project after late night project. It's a really large 2 car detached garage. Have a workbench with low cabinets that runs 100% of the width of the garage and I still (if it was clean) have enough space to park 2 cars in there with enough left over room to easily pull a motor and transmission with an engine hoist without being cramped. Thanks for the ideas

Thanks for the ideas for organization. I'm a diesel mechanic (have been for going on 35 years) and I learned early on about keeping organized in your box. At a glance I can tell if something is MIA and can pretty much walk up to either of my boxes, open a drawer and blindly grab the proper tool, or when someone wants to borrow something, tell them which drawer and what position it's in. Thanks for some great ideas.

gotta say, Taiwan ain't china for purposes of manufacturing identification. Virtually everything i have gotten from Taiwan over the years has been technically good; actually, i prefer Taiwanese tools, if i can get them. i'm not a professional anything, however. Heck, i've had the same potato peeler for over twenty years, made in Taiwan, and i'll fight you if you try to take it from me, lol.

China gets a bad reputation for what we spec out. If you dont want lead in your children spoons tell them you dont want lead. Or just dont cry when you need to do the recall. For higher quality, what ends up happening is as you spec higher tolerence the lack of expertise in china makes their price go up. They know they can make your HF mini lathe but as you want a nicer version the chinese cannot do it in bulk cheap. Then Taiwan is better then German then US. We can do high end for $$$$ china can do low end for $ taiwan is mid range for $$

I thought it was interesting that most of the advertisements were from Harbor freight on this one. I’m gonna find out if it’s that way on all of them.
Also, now, I have a harbor freight nearby. I had a lot of fun in there on Black Friday. I’ve gotten to know the manager, the manager told me to wait till Black Friday to buy a winch for my jeep, and wow! I’m sure glad I did! Of course, I can’t install it until I’m fully recuperated, that thing is heavy, and I’ve gotta take my front bumper off to fit in a winch plate, but while I’m recuperating, I’ve got your videos to watch. See you later!

    • @cbmech2563
      @cbmech2563 6 місяців тому +1

@@learnjcbskidsterchickensga7594 not a clue how to post anything, but you take a piece of 1 to 1 1/2 pvc depending on what diameter you want, a piece of 8 gauge solid wire with or without insulation, 20 or 25 feet long and wind it tight around the pipe. I put the pipe loosely in the pipe jaws of a vice so it will rotate, put the wire into a hole in one end and use a medium sized alignment bar in a hole in the other end to turn it. You can do the same thing with 1/4 inch brake tubing on a 2 inch pipe for bigger wrenches. Then I laid the coil on a piece of pallet board and zip tied every 5 or 6 inches. I made it a smaller diameter for my metric wrenches under 12mm. You can vary the diameter to whatever works best for the wrenches you are working with. The coil does still shift forward and back and I haven't decided yet the best way to cure it. Maybe a piece of 3/8s flat bar run through the coil and screwed down at each end? It's annoying but not that annoying that Have to fix it.

Just bought one of those bit holders. Thought it was cool. I had a remote outside job where I took it and stuck it to my tractor bucket because I was doing a mailbox install. The little SOB fell off the bucket and the bits stuck in it popped out and went everywhere. That sucked. So that thing will stay in the shop and not get used like that again. These are good just don't expect the bits to stay put if you ever drop it. Too bad the magnet on the back is not stronger. Oh well. I did buy some of these HF strip magnets and do use those to hold and organize bits works good. Last time those went on sale I bought a bunch of em.

Good to see you shining some light on Harbor Freight there Keith. Amazing how they've lasted this long. I remember "wishbooking" through their catalogs in the late 70's when everything they sold sucked...30 some odd years later and Harbor Freight has seriously stepped up their game, specifically in the last 3 years or so. Regardless, awesome video. Shows a lot of thought and effort went into it.

All right, Keith, all good ideas.
Those side boxes, if anybody gets one, they are great boxes by tge way, if your tool box is pretty much stationary, there good to hang on. If you roll your toolbox around, do yourself a favor after it is set in place, put a couple of bolts through the sidewall and into the main toolbox.
Retired aircraft mechanic and took me one move of holding the sidebox to steer with, and it mostly came off the toolbox, solved that problem quickly. After you use one a while, you'll wonder how you ever lived without it.
Wrench racks, socket rails are a must. Other tool racks, personal preference, they do help organize though.
Brother, I hope when you showed your sockets and ratchets, that was overspray on em and not rust.
Agree with you on the brand names using foreign mfg and put their name and higher price on it, not cool.
Stop and think, all the brands of tool boxes out there, like batteries and most every other mass production items, there isn't bu a couple of box manufacturers and they just make them with different specs and put different names on em. So just because you you go to buy a Snap On, Mac or whatever toolbox, look at some of tge "cheaper" brands. I'm really impressed with the quality of the new HF toolboxes.
God bless you and your family, brother . And stay safe on all these trips over to Harbor Freight, don't get run over in the parking lot.

The HF side box has holes near the bottom and bolts to secure it to your rollcab. With a couple cuts with an angle grinder I put the side cab drawers on my 5 drawer HF cart.

You can make tool trays, out of the kitchen organizer trays fromm your local dollar store! For knives, forks & spoons ,etc... They aren't always the perfect size, for big tools, but usually work good enough! Plus they cost $1.00

@@FishinNStuff They work... but since they are'nt designed for a tool box drawer. They often use 3/4 of the drawer space. And you have some left over room!
