What are your thoughts on the Road King? This has been a long running model and I personally haven't heard really anything bad to speak of about the Road King.
Totally agree. I have a 20 RGS and have spent a bunch modifying it. There is a new yellow 23 RK at my local dealer that speaks to me. I've never considered buying a new bike but damn I like that thing.
Need to consider this bike , the new Glides have too much technology on them for me , just want a bike that can do more long distances than my 2008 Fat Glide .
@@Pounder6407 They are nice bikes for sure. Lighter weight, but still have the touring frame. No fairing weight to deal with. A windshield for rain days and you can pop it off or on in a minute or two. You can add a sound system if you like. Put speaker lids on the saddle bags. Or just listen to the music of the wind and engine. A cell phone for GPS. A cup holder for your favorite road beverage and you’re golden. I like to keep things as simple as possible. The Road King is a bare bones touring bike. In my opinion, it’s the best touring bike in the Harley line up.

The sales guys were pushing a bit too hard to get me to buy anything, so I put some upgrades on my metric bike. I still like the Road King, but that bad dealer experience was a huge turn off.
I bought a used RK Police bike out of NJ in 2001. I loved that bike, and I would say it was the best riding bike I have ever owned. I could ride all day and only stop for gas and something to eat. Of course being a police bike it was made for city streets or interstates and she handled both with ease. I miss the smooth ride it gave even on bad roads with potholes. I do miss it sometimes, but I went for the cruiser bikes after I sold it. If I ever wanted another touring bike, without hesitation it would be another RK!
I have a Road King clone, the Triumph America and it is better than my XL1200L in every way except the V-twin and Screaming Eagle sound. My wife says it is more comfortable than my old Fat Boy. I love them both.
That is the best Bike, in my humble opinion, that Harley has ever made. I have two of them I have a 1998 road king and a 2024 road king special. I enjoyed customizing the 98 from engine all the way up and now that I bought the 2024 after the warranty is up I will be customizing the motor then. I have owned every touring bike that Harley makes I like them all but the road king will always be number one to me. PS down the road I may just get a 2011.
Trying this again, my first message was lost. I owned a 2006 RK 88 and think to YOU i replace the chain tensioner at 30,000 miles with no problem. The bike was beautiful and less Bells and whistles. After, I sold it for a 2022 with the Milwaukee 8 engine no mods all stock and still love it like it was the 2006. The one reason for getting the 2022 is that I am getting older and I had to have the ABS brakes, once again I would like to thank you for this great information that your share with us out here in Utube land, God Blessing to you and your family in keeping you safe at home and most importantly of all on these roads.
Road king’s are the only H-D bikes I have owned. My ‘05 just had the cam tensioners replaced at 60k last year. My ‘17 has had zero issues and is plenty fast, with a stage 1 installed. Both bikes are great in the city and on the open road. Definitely the best of both worlds.
In 2019 rented one for three weeks and road it all over Ireland. I took it from six lane highways(in Scotland) to a rural near goat track. I road it totally loaded to stripped down. It performed magnificently. And wherever I took it especially in Northern Ireland it drew a crowd. Loved that bike.
I ride a RKS and think it’s the most versatile bike in HD’s lineup. You can go with bags, no bags, windshield, no windshield, quick connect faring, no faring, tour pack, no tour pack, passenger backrest, no backrest, etc…
I have always loved the RK. The first I rode was a 2002 model in various stages of performance mods. Eventually, it ended as a high compression 95" with heads, Andrews gear cams, VH pipes, and a Mikuni carb.
I got a 2018 police Road King 107ci and it's my favorite daily rider. They call it the King because it comes second to none in comfort and practicality. My other ride is a street glide 96ci. Both great rides but that Road King is my favorite!
I had a 2007 RK and loved it. Only couple issue I had with it, one was the exhaust cross over pipe. This was one of the years where it was up high behind the rear cylinder hard mounted. Know for cracking. Dealership wanted over $200 for it, so I went with a V&H true dual head pipe. Gave it a tune and it ran great. Hated getting rid of it. Other issue was the spoked (or wire lace) wheels. Rear one had some come loose and caused the wobble. Anyways got rid of it because it stripped teeth off of belt. Probably due to issue with the rear wheel.
I have a 2005vpurchased in 2022 with only 5000mi now around 30000mi got cam tensioner checked still good thr how comfortable it is and it's a bike I can just sit and look at cause their so good looking in a classic way.
2002 Roadking classic here , had EFI for 14 years and went back to carbureted 140,000 on original motor . Had 106 stroker built . This bike is the best for cruising and touring . Smartest move Harley Davidson has done .
I really admire your level of knowledge when it comes to Harley-Davidson ! You can listen to a man and know if he's a master of his craft or not. You dear sir sound like you're a master of your craft and not a master of BS
Gonna keep my 2004 RK carburetted. My TC 88 has nothing to worry but tensioner. Taken care of by regular oil changes and inspecting it every 20.000 km. Ride solid with "semi potato" sound. Love it ❤❤❤. Thx for the video ❤❤❤
@@GixxerFoo finally a video about RK. Still curiously seek about why carbed V twin becoming quite a culture among HD enthusiast. I'm waiting for videos about why carbed getting hyped nowadays, and also how to tune it well 👍👍
This is the bike that made me come to Harley 15 years ago on an EVO model, it is for me the archetype of the traditional Harley in the lineage of the Hydra and Electra of yesteryear, I also had a Rushmore 103 from 2014 and it was one of my favorites. But at 65 years old today, these bikes are too heavy for me and today I ride a 2019 M8 Heritage Classic which retains the iconic Harley look but which is so much more manageable and fun to ride... But the Road King will always hold a special place in my heart... Greetings from France.
I love that late model Heritage, it's classic look but I think it's a great middle ground between cruiser and full on touring bike. I imagine you've got some beautiful and historic riding country over in France, I would love to visit one day and ride it!
05 RK Classic here, pretty much stock original TC88. Enough get up and go for me. Newer ones in the showroom look really sharp except for the price tags. Mine is paid for and runs great so I'm good.
Love my king, 1998 good ol Evo simple and easy to work on also reliable. Love that I can ride naked with no windshield but do have a Memphis shades fairing so like having the options quick release. One of Harley's best models for anyone who wants simplicity
Great history on the road king. You should consider doing a video on the history of the wide glide. Such a long production run. Going on the way from shovel to twin cam. I believe the shovel wide glide with the factory flames (fireball) was one of the nicest bikes they ever made. It was really cool how that colour scheme made a return on the twin cam. That bike alone was what got me interested in Harley’s
I have exactly the Electra Glide Sport model, that you show in the video, same painting and logo. Got it in 1994 because it was much cheaper than the Road King, which was the new model. I love it! Not less good as the Road King, just the instruments are more... technical... not as vintage as those of the Road King. Still my No. 1 tourer!
06 Road King Classic. Added a 95 inch big bore and cams.... and everything else with detachable latches. Can be whatever I want. Stripped down or full touring. It's a keeper. Thanks for all of your great content. 👍
I have a 2008 Road King Classic anniversary edition. Love it!! I originally was looking for a heritage soft tail when the owner of the bike shop showed me the bike he just got in ❤❤ LOVE AT FIRST SIGHT!! NO REGRETS 👍👍😎
I have the same bike -minus the anniversary colors. Apparently that was fairly common as people were not crazy about the 105th copper orange/charcoal gray two tone thing they did that year. I actually like the sunglo-burgundy better that someone substitute ordered on mine -plus ponied up $4K on a full stage I, and then only rode it 5K miles before I got a hold of it. Was a super cool find. Enjoy the hell out of riding it 😎👍👍
I've wanted a Road King since I started riding. I love crushing miles, hate fairings, and don't like a lot of "extras". Just give me a windshield and saddlebags. That's it. No radio, GPS, cup-holder, etc. I rode about 80k miles on my Heritage and I've ridden Road King on a couple test rides, so I know that's the bike for me. If only I weren't a loser who can't afford a vehicle. 😄😖
Yes, the RK standard was a great option for a well equipped all-around Harley touring bike. Now that it's gone, it's like the RK has been discontinued. Imo. The special is still a very cool bike, but it's not like a real RK to me. No windshield and many of the extras are missing. It's as if Harley said, "Let's get rid of all the extras, black it out, and put a 114 in it and charge more money for less bike.""
Love my 2011 FLHRC with the 103ci, I will never get rid of that bike, it now has a 110ci Fuel Moto stage 4 and it rocks. Harley is blowing in these days with only the "Special" RK, they need to come back with the standard FLHR and FLHRC. My guess is that they will be bringing out a FLHRC icon model soon. I will be in line....
I have a Y2K RCI with the TC88 & MM intake. Paid $10k in 2003 with 7k miles on it. It’s an excellent sled, everything you need and nothing you don’t. I do most of my own wrenching on it, but kept in touch with the main wrench (his name is KnuckleDragger) who uncrated, tuned, & stage 1’ed this bike. He’s been my source all these years. Cam idlers replaced @ 40k miles & they needed it done. Replaced with stock as it was all I could afford at the time. I was ready with the credit card if I had needed to replace the cams, & had put on a Power Commander instead of playing tune-up-to-2 new cams with the MM intake. Never touched the Power Commander & the MM still purrs. Besides brakes, batteries, motor mounts, plugs, and head breather flaps this bike don’t owe me a dime !!! The Y2K was one of the only years with air-ride front & rear, and making the switch between 1-up and 2-up is a breeze. It rolls down the road like a Caddy in a FL Hwy !!! I switch saddles between a HD Sundowner & a Corbin solo and a HD Ultra 2-up when I’m with the ol lady, and add a bitchback for safety, comfort, and slip-on luggage. LOVE THE KING !!!
I like my 2006 Road King Custom. I put later model rear shocks, raised 1”, and raised the floor boards up one position so it doesn’t drag as much on corners.
That green RK at 0:57 is beautiful! I’ve seen some very nice RK’s, they just have that timeless look about them. Sure would like to see a vid on the Rushmore project! This is my favorite channel, really enjoy your content, research, and supporting imagery.
Gixxerfoo!!! I just bought my first Road King (2009) for my birthday on May 27th! I have always wanted one because I think it is the ultimate touring bike. I own two Springers a 1999 and a 2000 Heritage Springer. There’s just something about a black and chrome Road Kung that gets me excited! I love the fuel injection, the looks, the handling and the massive saddlebags as they came with ones that are extended. I don’t like windshields or fairings so thanks for covering the Road King!!!
This is what Harley did since the 20s. Offer plain jane FL/FLH bike so a customer could add exactly what he wants as time and finances allow. Not create a new 9 letter $35k model with a bunch of stuff ya don't need or want. As far as the M-M fuel injecton, dealers won't service it, parts are very scarce. I pulled the M-M FI from my 1997 Roadking FLHPi and added a rejetted Keihin CV-40, EV-27 cam, Dyna 2001 ignition and V&H Tru-Duals. 😁
It is the perfect Harley! It's not overly large, it handles well and enough storage to do most of your running around town. A little clean up and you're ready for bar hopping or bike night. My last comment was, I see less of them at bike nights.
I've got a 2013 Road King Classic. Even though it's over 10 years old, she still turns heads as I'm rolling down the road. She's the one bike in my stable I'll never part with.

I love my 2003 Road King Police. Very classic look and very fun to ride.
I had a 2005 Road King Classic and I effing loved it. In four years I put 28,000 miles on it and I live in Ohio.
I nearly brought a Rking it was great but in the end I ended up with my 15 RG and I'm very happy.
All the best from NZ 🇳🇿
Yo yo yo! I love the Road King👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Myself as well! You can do anything with these bikes!
Omits 12 years I have road king 2002
97 big bores&s
585 S&S camshaft
S&S cam plates & oil pump
S&S lifter pushrod
Very sweet rid
Look old timer
S&S
If I was going back to a bagger it would definitely be a road king ! FXRs rule !
I have 2 fxrs, 84,87 the later is a fxrc blue 😊 but my old school 73 fx is more fun.😊😮
@@Master_Po170 I have two also a 90 with a95 inch TC engines & my daily ride a 90 with a hotrod 80 EVO .
@@leonardstanford1877 let it ride!
I ride a RKS and think it’s the most versatile bike in HD’s lineup. You can go with bags, no bags, windshield, no windshield, quick connect faring, no faring, tour pack, no tour pack, passenger backrest, no backrest, etc…
I agree about the versatility, but a Road King without bags just don't look right to me
I have always loved the RK.
I really appreciate that, I love what I do and I love the motorcycles no matter what Harley does at the top.
Can't beat those carbed Road Kings!
@@GixxerFoo finally a video about RK. Still curiously seek about why carbed V twin becoming quite a culture among HD enthusiast. I'm waiting for videos about why carbed getting hyped nowadays, and also how to tune it well 👍👍
I’ve got a 2012 hot pearl road king. I’ll never sale it. Love that bike. It’ll probably become a garage princess some day.
The RoadKing is a beast, I have a 02 with S&S 98, ported heads and Woood TW-6H cam. Has to be one of the most versatile bikes ever made.
Had an Ultra Limited, went back to a Road King Classic.
Yes on a Rushmore project video!
I’ve got a 05 RK and a 2012 Streetglide selling the glide keeping my king
So, is a Police RK with 10K miles on it likely to have maltreated and therefore a bad idea?
2012 Road King. Best bike I’ve ever owned.
My first was an 05 twin cam but due to higher miles I swapped out to a 13 107 anniversary. LOVE IT
Love my 2011 FLHRC with the 103ci, I will never get rid of that bike, it now has a 110ci Fuel Moto stage 4 and it rocks. Harley is blowing in these days with only the "Special" RK, they need to come back with the standard FLHR and FLHRC. My guess is that they will be bringing out a FLHRC icon model soon. I will be in line....
Rushmore King for sure, with a section on accessories
I own a 21 billard red RK 107 stage 1. Best bike ever
Bar hopper and touring
Ordered a 2001 picked it up on thanksgiving 2000,80k and still going.👍roadking
That's awesome!! Love to hear you got yourself one!
1995 35k miles well maintained.
All good on my 18 King. No regrets, No Worries.
The Road King is as close as, the old FLH look and style.
It is the perfect Harley! It's not overly large, it handles well and enough storage to do most of your running around town. A little clean up and you're ready for bar hopping or bike night. My last comment was, I see less of them at bike nights.
A secondary reason I got the RKS is because I didn’t want to be the 100th something glide to show up to bike night.
I've got a 2013 Road King Classic. Even though it's over 10 years old, she still turns heads as I'm rolling down the road. She's the one bike in my stable I'll never part with.
