I love his reference to Carly Simon's song You're So Vain with his lyric "and I think I'm so lame I bet I'll think this song is about me" 4:34

Dianogah would be my first choice as a backing band as well. I couldn't believe this was recorded live the fist time I heard it.

This is one of the most strange, disturbing, and yet hauntingly beautiful things I have ever seen. The editing to put the song and the film together really make it look like they were meant for each other. Bravo all-around.

Wow, this is so uncanny, I just watched 'My octopus teacher' yesterday on Netlfix about a man who developed a friendship with an Octopus, a great story with a bittersweet ending. They should have used this song as a soundtrack!

This version makes me cry, man. Watching this in a public place probably wasn't the best idea.

  • @NicholasPaauwe

The LP version never really clicked for me, the monotone and nonchalant vocals threw me off. This version however is crooned so softly & earnestly. I remember falling asleep to this on repeat while sulking after a breakup.

This is one of the best things I have ever seen and it has been an absolute companion to me over these years. I've shared this with students and friends and strangers and it never fails to stir in me some giant appreciation for music and narrative and whimsy and effort. This should be remastered in 4K if possible.

Being alone it can be quite romantic
like Jacques Cousteau underneath the atlantic
a fantastic voyage to parts unknown
going to depths where the sun's never shone
and i fascinate myself when i'm alone
so i go a little overboard but hang on to the hull
while i'm airbrushing fantasy art on a life
    that's really kind of dull
    oh, i'm in a lull
i'm all for moderation but sometimes it seems
moderation itself can be a kind of extreme
    so i joined the congregation
    i joined the softball team
i went in for my confirmation
    where incense looks like steam
    i start conjugating proverbs
    where once there were nouns
this whole damn rhyme scheme's starting to get me down
    oh, i'm in a lull
    i'm in a lull
being alone it can be quite romantic
like jacques cousteau underneath the atlantic
a fantastic voyage to parts unknown
going to depths where the sun's never shone
and i fascinate myself when i'm alone
i'm rambling on rather self consciously
while i'm stirring these condiments into my tea
and i think i'm so lame
i bet i think this song's about me
    don't i don't i don't i ?
    i'm in a lull

The man is depressed. The Squid represents another life the man thinks wants. He lures it with lobsters. It all seems exciting and romantic (new life) but it turns on him just like everything else he tries to love. So the man metaphorically dies or is killed by his own self sabotage. The Squid calling his wife is the comedy/tragedy of his despair that she tried to live with but she couldn't help him so she let him go, finally. The baby squids represent pain produced by false realities.

Sooo, I'm thinking I interpreted this wrong but... What I got out of this is that the squid and the old guy had an affair, the old guy left his wife, the squid killed the old dood and called to tell his wife that he'd practically raped and killed her husband and the babies that the old dood and the squid made are living on the old guy's glasses.
Wow. I love the song though(:

  • @FinestHourky
    @FinestHourky 11 років тому

I suppose maybe the video is about how some relationships/love may seem wrong to us, but that doesn't mean the two beings aren't happy with each other?
Though I still think bestiality itself is bad, cause I don't think most animals actually understand what's going on, lol.
