I've been a singer songwriter for years, and every time I listen to Andrew Bird, I consider starting completely over and trying to do it (songwriting) better.
Cheryl's interest and knowledge of the great musician she's interviewing have impressed me since the first time I've watched this. What a gift of a video, what a beautiful moment of life this recording symbolises to me.
Saw this same lineup at High Sierra Fest 2017. One of the best performances I've seen. At one point during the set, the guitarist was playing off on a wonderful little solo part, and he began to just get lost in the music. Andrew had to finally step out into his view and remind him that they eventually had to end the song. Seeing that musician literally get lost in the music and drift off into another world, forgetting where he was was one of the coolest things I've ever seen live, and what makes me stay so in love with live music.
Thank you KEXP, I knew Andrew Bird would soon be back. The only way Andrew sounds better is when Kevin Suggs mixes it. This sounds fantastic!!! Everything sounds so crystal clear and the niche sounds Andrew uses sound so well balanced with this mix nothing gets buried!!! You guys gotta a handle on this and its fantastic!!!
if you enjoyed this you should check out his NPR Tiny Desk Concert he just recently did, it is really amazing, all acoustic…I thought the bass was a bit too loud throughout this KEXP mix and that I could not hear the bass guitarist's or drummer's voice well enough honestly.
I've played classical violin for 25 years and Andrew Bird makes me reconsider everything I ever thought was possible on violin. Love it. Capsized reminds so much of something else but I can't place it.
Seeing this and Regina Spektor's performance/interview, I gotta say I have a lot of respect for KEXP's production quality and taste in guest performers.
Why didn't you click on "Old Andrew"? Andrew is making great music. Artists have the right to pursue new sounds and explore. Let the art do art. The rest of us can enjoy this video and continue to be Andrew Bird fans.
+Tai Taitano When you start gaining fame, you're told what to do. This album screams that. Back in Feb during his "unofficial" release in dtla, he made a comment around the lines of, "they made me rewrite the song", speaking in regards to forgetting the intro to one of the songs. This dude is too talented to be told what to do. Weather Systems ('03) was the album that captured me. Just look at his track record since... then you'll get why I'm jazzing things up.
Well my last comment (sleep deprived and cranky) Your opinion is valid, so I apologize for the negativity. I agree with you, that album is amazing (Sovay is one of my favorite songs). But I'm a huge fan of all of his albums. They're all really different. But I honestly don't think his record label is telling him what to do. Loma Vista has a roster of artists that are constantly changing it up. Andrew also has one of the most outrageously "out" drummers right now. I think Andrew wanted to make an accessible album, but that's just me.
The necklace the srummer is wearing looks like my dad's partner's work. I'm sure loads of people work in this style, but you don't see it that often. My chain mail necklace is my favorite one to wear!
A whistling violinist has no business being this amazing
Andrew’s whistle is possibly so amazing that when i first started listening to his music I actually believed it was a theremin
I love watching his facial expressions. You can tell the music really lifts and guides him. It looks like hes having a lot of fun here.

In my 68 years i salute
the story behind "Roma Fade" is so touchy! you can feel it when he start performing it
This performance of Roma Fade is a treasure. And that bassist is sheer ear candy. FINE FINE clutch of artists here. Bravo!
I follow Andrew Bird right from the start of his career. What a gift to have his music around.
Music of Hair is one of my favorite albums ever! Not his earliest, but pre-whistle...
You can see why KEXP is such a great channel. Just look at their staff, her energy is so nice and warm. It is always about the people.
Andrew Bird is a top three favorite of mine. Of all time. And that's saying a LOT because I love a wiiiiiiide variety of music.
Who else is in your top tier?
His music has so much soul, so much emotion. I'm completely infatuated with his art
their vibing in the capsized bridge is everything there is
This is sooo cool, the sound of this guy is so wonderfully unique and fresh

yea, i like the NPR version better. The violin tone in this one makes it sound out of tune with everyone else and nasally.
Julius Jahn I completely agree…that NPR performance is fantastic! And the sound is mixed perfectly for my personal tastes.
Andrew is a breath of fresh air! I love these performances and I listen to Andrew on a loop!!!
God, how i love his music! thanks KEXP for bringing him back again :)
I've played classical violin for 25 years and Andrew Bird makes me reconsider everything I ever thought was possible on violin. Love it.
Capsized reminds so much of something else but I can't place it.
I'm gonna guess it might be Bill Withers. Capsized has a very strong Use Me vibe.
Seeing this and Regina Spektor's performance/interview, I gotta say I have a lot of respect for KEXP's production quality and taste in guest performers.
Andrew bird how is it that you are this darn good, It feels so good to watch and listen to you in the wee hours of this night.
Brilliant! Excellent band, interview, audio, & video
She's SO into Andrew, lovely ✨
Who isn't? Also Cheryl is amazing as well!
Tasty drummer. Nice grooves
Okay, this is beyond amazing! It gets so mysterious to me how he manages to craft these original and playful pieces 🌸
so clear, so beautiful, so precise
Love Bird's earnestness. Such a pleasure.
amazing music clearly, but what a beautiful interview...
I have the chills
Who can get enough of these

*';;;;;;' awooo!*
Live version is way better than album one.
Awww yeah
listen to tiny desk version
Tiny desk performance is way better.
This is funky but when he's stripped back, wow!
@Roger Salme The way he says "or is the word obtuse" in the desk version makes that version for me.
@@mde6006 Roma fade on that set is crazy
Bittersweet, melodic, and hauntingly beautiful !!! I love it !!!
Bring old Andrew back! ...the music that sings like a book
ingrate
+Straight Grizzzly
If I wanted to listen to Bill Withers, I'd click on him.

Love Andrew, thanks for bringing him back!
LOVE the last song with whistle and Violin.
He's perfect!
This is so, so amazing.
this interviewer really did her research
Such pleasant to watch and hear and listen. Colourful. Aplause 👏👏👏👏🙂

Totally!
Just amazing!
This is awesome. First time heading his music. Cheers
I have not exposed myself to much of him. Loved the song Measuring Cups. Blown away, must explore.
Beautiful music... ART!
I just discovered...super talent (y) >3...Bravo Andrew ....
'Left Handed Kisses' with Fiona is sooooooo good....But that said Andrew can sure play the fuk out of that song on his own. Bravo.
Andrew Bird!!
love how the kexp staff on the control booth is watching them play
seeing him in asheville in a couple months. I am looking forward to it soooo much
She could actual acknowledge the band...It wasn't just Andrew Bird on stage.

You are awsome😎
4:14: "Oh shit he's looping, better play the shit out of this" - Drummer
didnt understand this, help?
Andrew was looping the violin, so Ted had to up the intensity of his drumming to follow along.
Exquisito!
I´m as impressed as Cheryl Waters.
Just listened to his song "Why" on the radio
I hear Jeff Buckley every now and again, and that's most definitely no bad thing 😊
This is musically and lyrically beautiful Mr Bird n Co 👌✌️❤️
You are totally good. Voice to collect
Fuck he's so good
wow this guy is fucking good

what is her name? (Newscaster) she is awesome!
4 years late but Cheryl Waters, as per the caption of the video.
The whine of the coal crusher bearings, the wine of the juice of humanity
wow...

Some tight shit
That tune Capsized is very Bill Withers. That's obviously a good thing.
Nobody's going to mention the Angus Young Gibson SG?!?!?!?!?
The whine of the sawmill records
I wonder if Andrew and his violin were conjoined twins at birth.
Who is this? Wow, some talent here.
!!!
