This is one of the most badass fucking things I've ever seen.
This kind of talent comes from years of hard work.
I come back to this all the time. Part of me wonder's if there's a higher resolution, non-interlaced version, but at the same time... this is it. Like, the studio recording of the song? I heard that about two months and two dozen times before I listened to the one on the album. So to me, this IS the one. The arrangement, looper, the audience, the sunglasses, the intro, and the interlace. This is my favorite way to experience this song. And I say that as someone who quite frankly doesn't have the appreciation of live performances over studio recordings that many others have. This performance, this recording of this performance, is one of the few instances where, like... I _get_ it.
I feel exactly the same way! I usually don’t like like versions of my favorites over the studio. But this is an exception!
this posting was originally hi-res but this is what youtube does to older posts. I guess it's better than nothing at all. They do this repeatedly to music videos
There is somthing about his songs that brings a feeling on like no music ever could. Its hard to explain.
The violin has never been so iconic to me. I'm in an orchestra as a viola and I really wish I could do something like this.
Me too. He completely inspires me to play outside the box yet appealing to our mythic themes. A paradox
this guy doesn't slow down. he's constantly moving but his timing on everything is amazing.
He was such a rockstar! Though I like how his style has changed over the years.
Love the stuff he's doing now, but this was by far my favorite era of Andrew Bird :)
This is also when I got turned onto him, my Biochemist Ivy League girlfriend at the time loved turning each other onto new music to each other as we both loved the same kind of music, what a great time for music it was then, The Unicorns, of Montreal's Sunlandic Twins, The Gossip, so much at 5 yrs into the 2000's
you know he's up there thinking 'how can i play the drums too'.
The brilliance of this astounds me. The way he combines disparate elements -- he must feel like Beethoven did when he composed the 5th Symphony. What a guy -- hope he comes around soon!
Andrew Bird's music sounds like an amazing mixture of Beirut and Jeff Buckley.
He has officially reinvented whistling into an instrument... perfection at it finest!
Andrew Bird is one of those artists who's live performances are even better than his studio recordings. He's just so friggen amazing to watch!
Don't compare him to other people, he's just Andrew Bird, and *that* is what makes him amazing!
I've seen this man live 11 times and countless videos, I've never seen him in a tee shirt, no sleeves none the less, and jeans. Ever.
Andrew Bird is one of those musicians that makes me mad because of his overwhelming talent. I can't wait for him to come back to Chicago.
I like the live version much better than the album version, especially since his whistling (only done live) is like the icing on the cake (and the icing has always been my favorite part)! This song is pure genius.
I absolutely love the crowds reaction. Front line has no idea who you are but are totally mezmerized & diggin it. Reminds me of my first time.
He's the epitome of cool here.
the crowd is literally mesmerized by him!!
HOW ARE EVEN HIS WHISTLES SO FUCKIN PERFECT?!
Andrew Bird does a lot of looping in his work. I believe he's got a bunch of loop pedals he's using with his feet. He tells this great story of how he once broke a violin while playing and managed to capture it in a loop, then used it throughout the rest of his set.
I like how with most concerts, the camera flashes to the audience and everyone is smiling and dancing and grooving. But with Andrew Bird, everyone is just in shock. He's on another level.
Me 7 years ago: Man he's really good at whistling, he uses it like he's speaking a language!
Me now, several drug trips later: lmao birdy was RIPPED
I was there!
What a great and unforgettable weekend
I also seen Radiohead for the first time later that night
Will never get tired of this. Gosh, still my fave
This is my favourite song of all times. And my favourite performance. Wish I hadn't been underage then - would have sold my kidney to afford to go to this show.
How do you know I haven't heard your music? I might have and not known it.
But no matter what it is, once I know I have heard it, I guarantee I will go listen to a Bird song before finishing the song.
Just to let you know, you are actually feeding my enjoyment of Bird. Thanks to this commenting and such, I get to hear his music a lot. So thanks.
Wow. This is so different to the album version. What an incredible musician.
Dear, dear string master of the midwest.. we love u dude.
Stumbleupon led me to this video in like 2007 or something. I've been a fan of Andrew Bird ever since.
he did not play this when i saw him and i almost cried on the inside.
also he was wearing exactly the same t-shirt. i can't believe he keeps his clothes for three years. i love him even more now.
A man fully committed to becoming himself. He leaves me in awe each tune he delivers.
Thank you Andrew Bird. You are a treasure
One of my favorite Andrew Bird songs. Really fun to see him on stage and the way he uses looping in his live shows.
this is the most attractive thing i've ever seen
I watch this every 10-22 months
I stumbled upon this video two years ago, not knowing who Andrew Bird was - but after seeing this I was hooked. I have all his albums now and am going to see him live this May. CAN'T WAIT :D :D
Still bumping this in 2021!!
I can respect the way he uses the mixers. aside from the bassline in the beginning, most of what you hear is being recorded and recalled during the performance. you can see him hitting the pedals
2:50 "I know I'm awesome."
i'm so glad this is online.
I was here! Somewhere in the first 10 "rows" lol, couldn't find myself
i like it how the name of the song is nervous tick motion of the head to the left, but when he does the tick motion he does it to the right
I was just reminded how much I loved Andrew Bird and used to listen to him so much years ago. Not that I stopped liking his music, just kinda forgot about some of it over the years . . . Until I started watching Fargo Season 4 and he immediately popped back into my universe! Love how great & authentic art has such intertwining connections.
I don't know how I haven't heard of this guy until now, but I am absolutely a new fan!
I was there. Great show! Bonnaroo Baby!
I saw the Bird once live... I can't fly again until these notes come back to me once again.
Saw Andrew Bird a few months ago in San Diego. I dunno. Maybe it was a few years ago. I lost track of time after that night.
I should've gone };'-( And now LA Phil is sold out too and I'll miss that. Please Lord don't let me die without having seen the Birdman live };'-O Johnny B, may I touch your sleeve just to know I could at least once be that much closer to Andrew Bird's magical mystery ride?
This is one of the best thing I saw/heard in quite some time... It inspires me to try my own thing with my violin...
I hope you made a lot of progress, this is a reminder, reminding you that you can do it. Whether you haven't started or not
he is gifted, im sure about that.
he is one the greatests musicians of the world.
Three songs that changed my life:
St. Vincent w Andrew Bird, Black
Horse Bones, Colusa
Grizzly Bear, Slow Life
BIG HEART
I love watching multi talented artist live, such a joy.
And you go tic that head to the left.
Great whistling by the way, love this song!
For those that asking about the guitar that appear, If i'm not wrong, this is a 1966 silverton 1446 double cutaway...
im not so disappointed in music anymore.. thank you andrew!
I stay clear away from people dumping on me, thank you very much.
And also thank you for letting the joke I said go right by you.
dat whistle game
So wonderful to have live footage of the inimitable Mr Bird ~ when , oh when will Australia figure in his travel plans?
Of course not. I wouldn't care whether he was or wasn't I love this man for his music and.. well the obvious physical traits I suppose. Andrew Bird is one of the best musicians I've ever heard.
It boggles the mind how someone can be that good, yet that unique and if you will esenteric; all at the same time
Amazing song, every time.
I love this guy
Andrew Bird is my hero.
He is the best whistler(?) that i've heard since my daddy :) it adds so much to the music, with the violin and all.. I can't believe how enthralled I get when I listen to this song. Thus the reason I have it bookmarked! xoxo
Jeez. 10 years ago.
LIKE THIS FAST VERSION!
the greatest performance... of anything... ever
This man needs to come back to Belgium
Pure life!!
Whenever I try to whistle on spot it sounds like air going over a glass coke bottle
I cannot stop listening to this song
Saw him last night live at prospect park. he's amazing live. seriously.
First time I've listened to this guy. He sounds very much like Jeff Buckley(r.i.p.) in some parts of the song. The similarity is uncanny. If I didn't know who Andrew Bird was I would swear I was listening to Jeff Buckley.Which is a very good thing.Seems as if Jeff himself is singing through him.Got to listen to more of his stuff!!
"durr sounds like radiohead, i just made a comparison, i know my music"
That's what people comparing things sound like.
I think I'm in love with this man! Shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit I have a new found respect for Violins and Muscle Tees!
How come this doesn't have a couple of million views?
Holy god. He's like a modern-day, folksy David Byrne... genius.
He's ticking his head to the right. Oh the irony.
God, Mysterious Production was such a great album...
He makes me see the sky even when I have my eyes wide opened in the dark (not a methaphor). At a point in each of his songs I want to cry. He's behind my cerveau, he's not from this banal world. The best is that I share him with my housband, we absorbe him until we are high and lost in his songs.
You've got full on southern outlaws listening to your stuff dude, badass
This song is good enough to overlook the irritating high pitched feedback occurring throughout the entire song, and that bs is a huge pet peeve of mine
i didn't notice before reading your comment... now i can't fucking unhear it
Lol I also came to say that I didn’t notice it until I read your comment... and now it WONT STOP YOU JERK 😩😂
Noble beast by far my fave but i love his energy
I just fell in love..
was this guy in The Squirrel Nut Zippers?
by proxy only. He was an "also featuring" on the albums and some live performances but never signed on as a core member. He's glad of it too since they ended up imploding some years later.
my reaction: guy at 4:08
That you are an editor, that you are a boss at said editorial job, that you are a good musician, that people have praised your musician ship, that you are even in a band, that you are even a musician, just to name a few.
Andrew Bird playing Violin like a guitar and Sigur Ros playing guitar with a bow. COOL :)
when you fall deeply in love with Andrew so you google his address and then find out he's already married ;( ;( ;(
It's about freaking time, I've only been telling you to get here for a while.
fucking awesome. especially the beginning
This was the first bonnaroo! Crazy how much it changed.
Ive listened to this song ten times today. Fucking amazing.
Andrew Bird is the music man
I've watched this everyday this week...
i dont want this to end
I'm old now, Andrew is old now, everyone in the audience is old now, but this song, this song will never get old.
