In the case of the Chevy SS, the reason why no one bought it isn't because it was too expensive, it was MSRPd at the same as a camaro SS RS, its because you could chop off both your hands and still be able to count all the comercials and adds chevy made for the Chevy SS. How many people here told their friends about the SS when it was still new and got a response around the likes of "I dont really like the camaro tbh" or "eh I dont want a camaro" or "I guess the camaro is cool what about it?" No one outside of car enthusiasts knew the SS existed and cars are not successful by enthusiasts they are successful by normal people buying a car they know exist

    • @JackBeckman
      @JackBeckman 2 місяці тому +4

Actually, for what you got it was a bargain. The reason no one bought one is because you couldn't get one very easily. Order books were open for about 10 minutes; after that, Chevy made just enough and brought them over (like the G8 before it) to get their tax break from Australia and honor the deal it cut to get the break. Added to the tiny amount of advertising and it's amazing any were sold at all.

    • @erikberg8098

A better name might have helped with Advertising as well. Nothing against “Super Sport” but by itself it’s generic, and I associate that with a Chevy option package. Since “Impala” was already taken at the time I think “Chevelle” might have worked, though I realize that logic didn’t translate to sales with the mid-2000’s GTO. Still, yes, more advertising would have helped.

I've owned both a Magnum and a Chevy SS. I still regret trading the Magnum in. I loved that car. The SS had a 6-speed manual and I loved driving it, except in traffic. But I got old and creaky and my coordination was getting so bad I couldn't make a smooth shift. I traded it in on a Camry. If my SS had an automatic I'd probably still own it.
Two reasons the SS didn't sell better (in my opinion): First, the car was built in Australia and had to be shipped to the US. I imagine that was a logistical problem for GM. Second, as far as i can tell it wasn't advertised. I found out about it car mags.
I want wagons to make a comeback, especially sport wagons. And build them with dual clutch transmissions and don't just put flappy paddles in to run a slush box. But i've probably bought my last car so it won't matter to me.

A 1996 Ford Taurus Wagon had 5.5" ground clearance. A 2024 Chevy Equinox gets 7.6. That's a difference of 2". Roof height, the equinox is 7" taller. Factoring in the 2" lift, 5" taller.

The most agreeable and sensible choice would be the Mitsubishi Mighty Max. A small, affordable, fuel efficient compact truck to give the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz a run for their money. Not only that, it would give Mitsubishi and opportunity to redeem themselves. The last attempt was the Raider which was just a rebadged Dodge Dakota. This time, it would have to be something all-new. The key is to keep it small and affordable, don't make it bloated and too expensive. But I don't see it happening anytime soon.

I feel like if auto manufacturers sponsored manual transmission training courses at dealerships, they could sell a lot more manual transmission cars because there seems to be many people who want to learn and it would be a great way to bring people onto dealership lots. Also, I believe the cars would be cheaper to produce, which means higher profit margins for auto manufacturers, and typically they can be cheaper to maintain which would be a win for consumers.

When I'm at car shows with the fun cars I talk with people that love that I daily a manual diesel wagon but I don't think that many of them would actually spend the money even if that car was available new. Here's a revival concept I would consider my perfect car. I've had three MB 300 TDs and loved them very much but were painfully slow. I also had a MB 300 SEL 6.3 the Corvette killer, which I loved even more. But I quickly realized I couldn't afford to own the 6.3. My dream revival would be the Mercedes 300 TD platform W123 mated with about 350 hp of electric motors.
    Perfect daily driver for me.

I have a GS460 - it's a worthy competitor to the BMW 5 series V8's, only without a hopelessly unreliable engine, generally far better built, and far better equipped as standard. I have this because I also have kids I have to move around, and don't have the luxury of being able to have more than 2 cars. Had a 2018 Honda Fit. Worse car I ever owned. Very unreliable. Leaked water from the doors, oil leaks, motor mount failures,
    quality craftsmanship.
Don't get a Honda. And don't buy a "cheap" car.
Only way a wagon is coming back is with the Subaru Outback formula and it's the best selling wagon on the planet thanks to the US. The European brands bring lifted wagons here but they don't do nearly enough and they are expensive.
Wagons sat right next to sedans and SUVs for a bit and nobody wanted a wagon. Gotta face the fact people find them ugly.
Once saw a Murano CrossCabriolet and a old Saab wagon and asked my friends what they thought. They said the Murano was much prettier and the Saab looked like a flip flop. My parents also dislike Wagons even new sporty ones I show them.
    It is what it is.
I think a lifted wagon variation of the Corolla, Camry, Civic, and Accord are the only true paths for a new wagon to succeed here.
Drove the last gen Cruze. It was terrible. The interior was so god awful. The plastics were falling apart worse than any other car I've seen. And it wasn't ten years old. The car was so low it couldn't get into the driveway without damaging the bumper. It was cramped and uncomfortable like most sedans. Just didn't do anything right.
Don't understand large American sedans. If you want a sedans body style at least make it sporty like most sedans do now. If you want a LARGE sedan key word on large you want comfort and luxury. A SUV or CUV or even a wagon does a much better job than a sedans body could ever hope too. These cars would be hitting almost 40 maybe 50k asking prices. For that money people aren't going to find any justification for such a large yet impractical car. Its a waste of space and proportions. If your going to go that big at least make it a box on wheels for practicality. You even can get a third row.
The Element, K5 Blazer, and a small Mitsubishi truck honestly has the best case for them to be brought back.

On paper it's cool. I like a lot about it. But the problems just make me want to get rid of it. I hoped being a 2018 any production issues would uave been solved. But nope. Good luck on yours.
