I have a question: how do you manage your clips for editing? Like do you download and trim clips and save them separately on your pc and select some when doing an edit or do you just import a whole scenepack video into after effects for one edit and trim it? Or a different way?
Markers can be put just by pressing star / multiply button in num pad wherever the time line is just press star and marker will add there . We make AMVs and music vids , you can check us out 😌 . Thanks for this tutorial i revised all my lessons 💕
@@hannahjasmin69 It's super easy , just make a new composition ( name it anything ) In that cut all your parts and just copy paste it to other composition that you are working on side by side . It saves a hell lot of time and you don't have to use other app for cutting and saving videos separately . I mean do all cutting and editing in one project file by making two compositions side by side 😌
Be organized: sometimes when we are editing we just bring all the media we r gonna need but we make a whole mess on the "project" panel, you can make folders/carpets to put them in a organized way, i always make these folders/carpets: compositions, videos, photos, overlays.

a rendering tip for everyone!! sometimes if your edits are between 35s-1min long and hella detailed with effects, 3d and layers, rendering can take an absolute AGE and you may not know if your ae has actually crashed in the middle of rendering. so what I do is to preview your whole edit on Full resolution so it basically 'pre-renders' your edit - this can also take a while, but shorter than adding it to your render queue straight away - and when it reaches the end, add it to the render queue (make sure to have caps lock on to stop it from previewing and render quicker) and it should render within 1-2mins or less. bonus rendering tip: before you prerender your edit, check your media disk cache (Edit>Preferences>Media & Disk Cache>Empty Disk Cache) and delete the disk cache. this doesn't delete your edit at all or ruin any of your progress -- all it does is it deletes what it has previewed while you've been editing and just makes everything a hell of a lot faster/less susceptible to crashes. DO NOT CHOOSE THE 'Clean Database and Cache option' because that might delete everything. hope this helps everyone with their edits! i myself have been editing 3 and a half years, and technically haven't edited in a while but editing is almost muscle memory to me and i love seeing everyone's creativity and ideas being brought to life.
im pretty sure ur first tip and 2nd contradict each other, cause when u watch it on full all the way through that gets saved in dsk cache but if u clean disk cache then u did the first step for no use
@@grandecupofcoffee7942 they meant clearing the disk cache before pre-rendering (just playing the edit on Full quality), not before rendering. I hope you understood 😁
I think after effects is just a fucked up software... I don't why but I haven't seen more fucked up things man has ever creates on this planet... It's just a sucking software...by the adobe... suck I haven't made any more complex animation ... Just used some already exported videos but this sucked softwares crashed in the middle of the preview.... Fucked up software... Now I'm getting regrets Why I chosen this shit
8:34 what you can do is right click on your music layer --> keyframe assistant --> convert audio to keyframes. Then on created audio amplitude layer select "both channels" keyframes and go to graph editor. Then you have visible spikes and drops in the soundtrack. Really useful
For my audio marking, I always mark directly onto the audio using shift+8 (asterisk). This is for in case I ever want to move my audio and the rest of my work to a different length or area in the timeline as the markers above can't move together with my work.(or maybe i haven't found a way for that yet)
Your voice is so unbelievably satisfying, I somehow managed to watch this entire video while paying all my attention to your voice and thinking about nothing but the words you were saying, but without actually comprehending a single one due to how hard I was focusing on how you were saying things instead of what you were actually saying
You literally highlighted every problem i've ever had on ae as a beginner, I wish I knew these earlier haha, but you still taught some tips I didn't even know, so THANK YOU
I stopped editing bc I felt I was never going to be good as ones like you. But I’m worrying about my self more I’m starting a slime business, sewing a dress, and editing again. You encouraged me so much. Thank you
this is a great video! a tip that i've seen no one talk about that i really struggled with for awhile was the audio hardware settings. i'm not sure if this is just for my laptop or if other editors have had this issue as well, but whenever i would unplug my earbuds and then plug them back in awhile later, i wouldn't be able to hear the audio (an example of this would be if i wanted to hear something through the computer's speakers for a minute, but then replug my earbuds back in, there would be no sound). so what you do to fix this problem is go to the top of the screen where it says 'edit' then to 'prefrences' then to 'audio hardware' then there should be an option that says 'default output' where you can then change between the computer's speakers and whatever listening device you have plugged in. you don't have to do this every single time you open after effects, but let's say you had earbuds plugged in while editing then you closed your laptop and took your earbuds out, then it'll have you do this, at least in my experience. hope this helps someone!
this is a great tip- i just recently found out you had to check the audio hardware for it to work again and i've been editing for 1 and a half years lmao so beginners, on behalf of this person, ur welcome
@@eupvhria6738 hahaha, yeah i discovered it pretty early on but i needed to google it to find out how to fix the issue since no editor was talking about it

okay so I've been editing for almost maybe 2 years now so this is like common sense to me at this point but def def I think this is a great compilation of tips that beginners may not know, and I can say I didn't know when I first started, but I wish I did anyways I just wanted to say that this was a great videooo!! and thought id share a tip that I don't see many many editors talk about, and bear with me ill try my best to explain it okay so let's say you have a picture(or a video) you want to edit on your timeline, if you want to cut it at 1second, instead of cutting it with ctrl + shift + D and then deleting the excess, you can just simply trim it! all you have to do that is click alt + ] to end the clip there, and you can do the same to start a clip at a certain point- trim the beginning, by using alt + [ . and another tip I have for layers is, if you have 2 layers A and B respectively first layer and second, but you want to make B the first layer and A the second, you can simply click on Ctrl + ] to move it above and ctrl + [ to move it below I hope this was easy to understand lol hehe and if it wasn't you can just watch this video, ua-cam.com/video/KYgTEH-9T-c/v-deo.html
One of my favourites is if you need to proportion your key frames. Select all your key frames and hold alt and pull with the mouse to the length of your clip. Saved me so much time and don't be scared to mess up. Some of the best effects and transitions I've made were by accident or mistake lol
You are actually a lifesaver !!! i downloaded AE yesterday, and watched videos all day to try nd find a way to cut the clips (i swear, i could've made a whole edit on Videostar in the time it took me to understand ANYTHING) i watch your video and suddenly its easy and everything works, and i understand how to cut clips easily. this was so helpful!! thank you!! expecially the cutting clips bit, iv been doing it the wrong way this whole time😭 it would take me ages just to put scenes together
Btw, with the separate dimensions one if you go into the graph editor you can select separate dimensions at the bottom (it’s like 2 lines with an x and y on it) I just find it easier than right clicking :)
oh great ty, I didn't actually know that one! I usually do the right click version mainly so that I can keyframe with the x and y values separately from the get-go rather than having both of them selected but both methods work for sure!
