Not for Top Gun that is for sure. There is so little effort in writing this movie that I doubt they even really tried. Laziest movie writing I have ever seen.
Just ignore a lot of stuff like the fact gooses son would be around 40 years old right now since the original movie came out in 1986 and he looked to be three or four years old. If you want to be generous that the movie was supposed to come out 2 years ago he would be around 38.
All jokes aside, we know Top gun Maverick has become one of the greatest action movies ever. Tom Cruise provide us something that we will not see again in the next few decades. Solid awesome movie.
I never saw the 1st movie. I absolutely love this sequel a lot. I love everything about it, I saw it when I went to Fan Expo Chicago 2022 (so like 2 months after release) and wow it was still worth watching. I forever admire any filmmakers who go above and beyond to make an epic like this one
If you love this, go watch the first movie. You'll love it too. That's the great thing about Maverick: It is not only a great action flick, but at the same time manages to capture the tone of the original perfectly
I think Ive seen this one 3 times since the theater and still finding things I really like about it. I was 25 when I saw Top Gun. My son was 25 when he and I saw this one. I hope when Cruise makes Top Gun 3 and my grandson is 25 we all three go see it.😂😂😂
this is the first movie I've seen since the LOTR trilogy where I have absolutely nothing to criticize or nitpick about. Rooster and Hangman mirroring Maverick and Ice Man was so amazing and wonderful. The action, the emotion and dialogue were incredible. This movie truly captured my heart.
You know what? I actually DON'T think they mirror Maverick and Iceman. If you think about it, neither of them actually resemble either of the characters. Sure, Bradley was raised by Maverick, but Mav would never hesitate in taking a shot, he would never hesitate periodt. And sure, Iceman may have been cocky and smug, he was still a team player. He'd never abandon his wingman like Jake does. The only thing I find similar is the friends/rivals relationship between the two. But other than that, I don't think they're that similar, which is a GOOD thing. It would have been too "on the nose" if their personalities had been similar. I much prefer Rooster and Hangman being their own selves and original characters with original personalities. ... Thanks for coming to my TED Talk-
@@Mikhael366 Ah, okay. In that case, i agree. I've heard a lot of people say they found Rooster and Hangman to mirror Ice and Mav's characters, which I do disagree with, so just wanted to clear that up. Regardless, it was a thoroughly enjoyable movie! :)

Funnily enough, I'd say certain elements of the canyon were more based on the Ravine Raid from the second Area 88 OVA (Burning Mirage). Bunch of merc pilots have to, at night, fly through a canyon to evade radar detection to hit an oil refinery. The differences start to show after the aircraft make it through the ravine, when a bunch of Gen 1 Harriers show up and start wrecking the Mercs. The Area 88 OVAs came out in 1985/1986, so a tad before the first Top Gun. Better yet, a character (Mickey Simon) flies an F-14A, which is kinda funny.
Don't think just do = use the force, also older mentor teaches former friends son, shoot an exhaust port without targeting laser. Yeah it was pretty much star wars

One of the few movies that are a continuation that I liked the new characters, and the reason is very simple: they respect the old characters. New characters doesnt need to "kill" the old ones to be likeable, they just need to be charismatic, well developed and build on the franchise, not take over it.
Part of the reason this movie works is bc it allows Maverick to address his unresolved trauma from Top Gun. It shows how the “suck it up” mentality in the first movie was unhealthy.

I remember this hilarious anecdote from an aviation magazine where they were testing the windshield of a new airliner by firing dead chickens at it at an appropriate velocity to simulate bird strike, and to their horror the windshield kept shattering to oblivion. Long story short, eventually they got in communication with the manufacturer of the test kit/cannon and had to be told that they had to thaw the frozen chickens before firing them out of the cannon 🤣🤣
So happy you guys pointed out that this is basically Star Wars a New Hope. Had so many people telling me this was an original idea I thought I was going crazy.

And try Hot Shots ;)
You gotta see the first movie!!!
The movie was ok

Points I’ll take from this one
1. Love the Tom I mean Maverick parts
2. Love the Star Wars reference (and the next movie reveals Mav’s farther is a MiG Nat!!!!)
3. And the G-Force at the end
Star Wars is based on The Dambusters and 633 Squadron. It’s really just aviation taking back its storyline.
@@calvinnickel9995 The point is Top Gun Maverick was so on the nose especially dialogue.
Star Wars is based in THE HIDDEN FORTRESS by AKIRA KUROSAWA. So, all of this, is Japanese.
Better yet, a character (Mickey Simon) flies an F-14A, which is kinda funny.

the skydive stunt may have been the least crazy things he's done in terms of stunts in the last 4 MI's. you could argue scaling the burj khalifa, hanging off a plane (8 times), or either of his helicopter stunts crazier. the dude is awesome in movies.

I really loved the sound design especially that way they made the wind roar increasingly against the cockpit in beginning. I've never heard that attention to detail in a jet combat movie.
One of the few movies that are a continuation that I liked the new characters, and the reason is very simple: they respect the old characters. New characters doesnt need to "kill" the old ones to be likeable, they just need to be charismatic, well developed and build on the franchise, not take over it.
this! i would absolutely see a top gun 3 with the new characters and maybe tom making an iceman-esque cameo

Part of the reason this movie works is bc it allows Maverick to address his unresolved trauma from Top Gun. It shows how the “suck it up” mentality in the first movie was unhealthy.

Birdstrike is a serious issue. I saw the aftermath of a single birdstrike on the nose of a P-3. They can cause catastrophic loss of the aircraft and crew.
You should hear the stories birds tell about "jetstrike"!
It's the bird unions that get all the birds to picket the entrance gates, with their adorable little placards, which all get sucked into the first jet engine that passes by. birds don't understand jets, but that may change if the airlines allow birds to migrate the way cargo does today.
thats why you shouldnt fly low. birds rarely fly at aircraft altitudes
