Pickups were mainly used by builders at the time, so how about BOB? Or, to keep the initial theme going, Pete the pickup? My first thought was Paddy, in a nod to those thousands of Irish builders who bolstered our workforce in the years after the 'second small disagreement' and became an indispensable part of our building industry, but there would always be someone too eager to take offence and cry racism! In the '70s, we had a CA Pickup at our local Electricity Board depot with a wooden telescopic cherry picker mounted in the back. Blow taking that round our multitude of roundabouts in Basingstoke!
