Love this! Like you said, many diets out there that do work.. not for each person. My doctor too said calories in/out is key, then not eating the processed junk food. Thanks for sharing your experience. This is a great point of view. Good you have a trainer that’s helps you. Surrounding yourself with people that are educated in these areas is so helpful. Hello Nisha, happy Monday to you. I’m so happy you found something that works for you; plus losing weight .👏🏻👍 I have been on maintenance for two years from keto. I couldn’t agree more with you; diet is not one size fits all. The important thing is to be healthy and we all know being overweight is not. So whatever diet works for you and to lose weight and feel healthy is what really matter. Thank you so much for sharing because it really is a struggle for most women ; especially with menopause and over 50 to lose weight. So truly thank you for helping us not to feel so bad with weight and hormonal issues. XXOO 💜💜💜

I will never stop keto, low carb, some days carnivore, because of my intense fear of sticking an insulin needle in my arm several times a day. For me it's not about weight loss or how my clothes look, although all of that is better too. It's about keeping my A1c blood tests under diabetic levels. But like you said, everyone is different. Love from the U.S. 😘

Same for me! I learned about intermittent fasting and low carb (keto stye eating) for health reasons-as I was having symptoms of diabetes2😳😳😳
I wanted to reverse that-as the thought of insulin injections and losing limbs -scared me.☹️☹️☹️
I learned about 80% of the world population is insulin resistant and don’t even know it-as the medical systems focuses on the culprit glucose while insulin production gets out of hand trying to keep one’s glucose under control.😮😮😮
So it was definitely for health reasons I dived into studying keto and fasting 18/6 -on July 20th 2022. In only one month I was able to totally toss my BP meds after being on BP meds 20 years!!! Now at 5 months in I have lost 23 lbs and weigh 119 lbs at 5’ 5” and 75 years old. I will never go back to the poison of sugar, carbs, seed oils (processed foods). What I love best on keto/ fasting- I am NEVER hungry. 👍👍👍 and I was lifetime sugar addicted. You certainly have to be determined to change your eating lifestyle. I know because many I have tried to enlighten about sugar are just aren’t ready to let go yet. So I try to get them to try to at least cut back on sugar and carbs.👍👍👍
Everyone has to find the best path for themselves and it was easier to change my meals and fast than it is for many -as I am a widow and totally alone. If I had a partner or family to feed -this way of eating would have been a much much more difficult change.
Best online docs that teach intermittent fasting and Keto style eating.

@@carolerichard5250 - I have Dr. Jason Fung's books on Type 2 diabetes and intermittent fasting; but I have never heard him talk about keto. I remember someone asked him about keto; he said he was into intermittent fasting; that that was his field and his concerns, but that he did not want to comment about keto.

    Hi Nisha,
Glad your new regime is working for you. Diets/calorie counting has never worked for me as I become even more obsessed with food and the whole process is way too boring. I eat what I want (in moderation), try and restrict wine to w.ends, bit of exercise, and more often than not try not to eat before 12.00. Intermittent fasting (for me) is brilliant. We all have to find our own groove with this. It really is about a life style choice and being consistent with it.

Hi Nisha, I absolutely loved this video. Everything you say makes so much sense and I can relate to it all. Bloating is so uncomfortable and I think certain foods must contribute to this. I too have started watching my calories as well as limiting some foods that I feel contribute to the problem and I have also had success. I completely agree that we can't deprive ourselves of things we love, but we have to be very mindful of what we are putting in our mouths and if we over extend one day, its so important to get back on track in the next day or two. This is such a smart, common sense approach to weight loss and healthy eating. I so enjoyed your perspective on things and thanks so much for sharing with the rest of us!

Thank you for sharing, you are such an inspiration! I agree that at the end of the day it is all about calories in versus calories out. I am like you, and I don’t want to cut out any food groups. I also don't want to buy any 'weird' ingredients that cost a lot of money but I will only use in one recipe! Also I have a family to feed and cutting out food groups would affect them and they would not like it. I just recently got on weight watchers and I am learning that the little things we eat add up quickly (esp. snacks). I want to stay healthy, make healthy choices that will work for me now that I am 50. thank you again, Nisha!

I basically have the same way of eating & fasting ( not a diet ) it has to be a way of life. No processed or fast food. There's nothing wrong with a black coffee in a morning to get through that fast. I don't do any carbs normally but sometimes if I fancy I'll have some good bread or a cake when I'm out. Menopause makes weight loss twice as hard but yes any exercise is key as you get older. Never weigh myself it's always a clothes thing and knowing when to rein it in...like you say it's not rocket science xx

Hi Nisha! I'm sure your good advice will help many people. I personally have never been on a diet. Everything I eat is homemade and I never buy prepared meals. I haven't made dessert in years! But I have never had a big problem with my weight. I eat a lot of vegetables but a little less fruit. I take a medication that makes many people gain weight, but that is not my case. This summer I did eat a little more ice cream but in the winter I never eat it. For several years now, I have only allowed myself a few chips and a drink like coke or pepsi on Saturdays and Sundays. I don't like alcoholic beverages so I never have them. I am also a romaine salad eater with a green apple. I cook with a good cold pressed olive oil and it has never made me fat. Since I have fibromyalgia and I have pain I haven't exercised this year! But I know for having done it some years that walking helps a lot for weight loss. My clothes that I love and that I have had for many years still fit me so I tell myself that I am lucky! Have a good week xxx

I’m so glad you brought calorie counting to the forefront of your diet talk. So many ppl want instant gratification and get frustrated and give up (I’ve done this so many times I can’t even count). Counting calories allows you to eat anything you want, but once those calories are “spent”, you’re done. Elimination diets don’t last because we are human. We need something sustainable. We need our chocolate and bread! You look great. Keep up the good work!

Calories in calories out has been proved to lower metabolic rate. Your body gets used to the calories you eat , becoming more efficient at managing on less calories. You end up having to go lower and lower ( think The Biggest Loser tv programme) There hasn’t been a follow up programme because they all put the weight back on !

  • @Cat-no8ts
    @Cat-no8ts Рік тому +1

I really hear what you're saying, Nisha! But calorie counting never worked for me, but I do believe that we have to know our bodies. And I've come to appreciate that for me, moderation is key. I'm more concerned about reducing salt intake, etc, and I don't cut out snacking all together, I just change what I snack on! I have a dietitian that I see once every 2 months and he is really helpful when it comes to understanding caloric intake as well as what foods and snacks would be best for my individual needs. I think a person's individual health level is also important to understand because depending on the health level, it can predispose a person to a specific kind of diet for weight loss. And you're right, weight loss and dieting is an enormous business. And you really have to find the right regimen to keep yourself healthy without going overboard. If the scales tip out of balance too often, we're going to be sick, and nobody wants that!
I love how you talk to your audience Nisha...you talk to us like you're talking to a good friend on the phone! It's great. You have a very comforting disposition and for that I just love you and your channel. Best wishes to you. 💕

Hi nisha hope ur well, I’m so happy for u on the weight loss, u look fabulous! I have never been on diet as my metabolism was so fast, with my training in younger days I was in the gym every day, I was a sprinter and was very proud to have Welsh vest at 12 years old, so working out was in the blood! I’ve never had to watch what I eat it would go on my skin! But I’ve always had breakfast (even if I wasn’t hungry)as it started my metabolism! Menopause!!!!I’ve turned back to a teenager without the spots😂😂I take my hat off to u nisha for counting calories, that’s 1 thing I couldn’t do. Eat clean in week and eat what I want weekend! They say to eat little and often but each to they’re own isn’t it, we all know what’s good or bad for us, everything in proportion I guess,I’m piling on the pounds now with menopause just around the middle area😬🤦‍♀️I can’t walk or train as my knees and back are basically buggered😬I’m so jealous of ppl that go to the gym as I loved it! Never deprive urself of anything nisha, if u want it eat it! Ur obviously doing it well and it works for u it’s plain to c! Carry on the good work, thank u for a great video, take care xx😘

I hear you when it comes to restrictions in our diet. I have been studying nutrition for a long time and tried out many different ways of eating - not so much for weight loss but more for experimenting with which way of eating works best for my body. Cutting out basic things like carbs can be hard at times.
just wanna mention one thing with calorie-restricting diets - It does messes with your metabolism in the long run and slows it down. It is just an evolutionary thing that the body starts to reduce its standard metabolic rate when you constantly stay in a calorie deficit due to a low-calorie intake. It sure works to lose weight but JoJo is inevitable the moment you stop restricting calories. The body goes into a self-protecting mode to save it from starving because at this point the body is not sure when it can expect sufficient calorie intake again. There is more Neandertal man in us than we think! :) So in the end you have to eat fewer and fewer calories over time to get the same benefits of weight loss because your body needs less and less calories for its normal activities. If you eat more calories but work it off due to sport it's a different story. ... Just food for your mind! :)

Hi Nisha, I totally agree on calories in, calories out, and that’s the only way I can lose, without feeling deprived. Everyone is different as far as what works for each of us. I found a good App that helped me track everything. It was so easy that way, and I didn’t need to keep a written journal, just scanned the package of prepared foods, and put in the serving, and it calculated it. Whole foods had to weigh the serving, but I eat the same things mostly so that does help, and all the food I eat is stored in the App, so easy to find next time I eat it. To lose weight I have to stay at 1000-1100 cals. a day. The app had me at 1600 a day, but that was way off. I experimented, until I found what works. I’ve always had a slow metabolism even when I was younger and working out a lot. My motto is, slow and steady wins the race !

Hi Nisha! I couldn’t agree with you more about the calorie counting plus exercise as being the best way to lose weight. My father was a physician back in the day and he counseled his patients this way. I learned from him and this has always been a successful way for me to maintain an ideal weight. It is a useful tool because once you learn your caloric output then its easy to monitor your caloric intake! You become aware of just what your body needs and no more. Xoxo 😘 Deb

Each to their own own when it comes to trying to lose weight but I'm with you and count calories. I also weigh myself rather than measure as I'm rubbish at that even though some find it simple - not me lol. I've not been able to exercise the last few months which has been very frustrating but I've found it hard to eat less than i would if I was active. I must try harder though as I'm putting back the pounds that I worked so hard to lose last 18 months and maintained. Every pound shows on my small frame 🤦‍♀️ you look great now as you are 🙂 x

Nisha, great video you are so honest and adorable.. I do intermittent fasting for 18 hours, not because diet just because I’ve never been a breakfast person . So my first meal of the day is between 1230 to 1pm in the afternoon. I eat healthy balance meal but I don’t deprived myself from any group of food. Now having said this I did cut out sugar and a lot of carbs in my everyday diet. I have lost weight but I don’t count calories it’s just not for me. Glad you feel better and motivated that’s the key. I’am like you I could never be in Keto just because I love my carbs once in a while.

Hi Nisha! You look great with the weight loss (and before it too!). I think as a society we are moving less and less, a somewhat lazier generation, and this has really caused concern. Processed foods and snacks too are fairly new since 40 years ago when the population was thinner overall.
I'm trying to do my stationary bike for at least 10-15 mins a night whilst watching TV and stopped alcohol, which is 300+ calories a drink. I'm stable and will make more adjustments, but cannot do anything extreme or I won't stay with it. I've not heard of that sausage you love more than cake. I have a sweet tooth so I'd eat the cake and not that sausage for sure. : )

I could never follow a 'diet'. I'm too old now not to eat what I want! I just kind of make a mental note that if I ate a doughnut one morning as a treat rather than my usual branflakes I need to make an extra effort to have a low calorie evening meal. Two meals a day - 10.00 am ish and 5.30 pm ish works really well for me.

Stop eating when your 80% full. About 20 min in. Just pay attention. Don’t eat after 6pm. Don’t eat and drink a bunch of crap. Easy peasy! I’m interested in trying intermittent fasting. I developed arthritis from a life of eating unhealthy and it's been a challenge to change my diet, but I hit rock bottom and have no choice now. I will say that it's a myth that fruit bloats. It only bloats if there isn't proper food combination. Fruit wants to cleanse and push out junk, and is high water, so it has to be eaten a few hours after a heavy meal, or 30 minutes before a non-ifruit meal. in 1987 I read a book called, Fit For Life, by Maralyn Diamond. I start eating a piece of fruit in the morning, one piece each hour until I have lunch. After a few days I started to stink as my body was flushing. The problem is I ate a lot of bread and butter and cheese, and that was my downfall for me. If you eat fruit in the right combination it will reduce bloat because it is nature's cleanser. But if not combined properly it will bloat, for example in France if you eat a piece of fruit after a meal they will say noooo. It causes gas and bloat if not combined. Even a banana before an orange is not a good combination because the banana is dense and the orange will try to push past it, causing a disruption of gas and bloat. Different fruits have to be eaten separate from other fruit.

I am 66 years old and have struggled with weight loss all my adult life. Losing 11lbs is wonderful. I have now found the only way I am able to loose weight (so far I have lost 2st) is to weigh everything I eat, except vegetables. I do not eat anymore than 100 grams of any food item and check the nutrient guide on all packets, biscuits, sweets, crisps, chocolate etc. I eat 10 grams, so I am still having a treat but I know exactly how much I am having. It might not work for everyone but I would suggest it is worth a try. 💐💐

I remember Sylvester Stallone years ago put out a book and he said eat your ice cream but do it earlier in the day so you can burn off the calories. The number of times I forget things upstairs has me going up and down 15 steps about 10 times a day. But I also think as you mentioned to limit food I take at 6 pm. I will have fruit maybe later but I try to not eat too late. It's not good for me and the bloating does happen then eating later. But you look wonderful and it shows.

Well done...I have to agree, you just have to have less calories going in than energy burning them up..but I have a very resistant metabolic body, I will loose weight for a little while then it stops, my body realises that it's in a 'famine' and compensates and runs on less calories. I get very tired, extremely exhausted, easily run down and get colds and stuff, so I have to change what I'm eating and weight creeps back on. I lost 12 kg last year..lost 1kg per month (easy to put on though 2kg in 2 weeks over Christmas!!) But I have managed to get that off again. I swim 3 times a week and gym once a week. ... and light breakfast and dinner, my main meal is lunch so I have time to burn off the calories...this has been the best success so far for me, but again I agree with you, what works for one doesn't always work for another, you do have to work out what is your right mix .... anyway.... you are looking great Nisha 👍 👌 😍

Great tips, Nisha! A while back I lost a lot of weight with fasting, but gained most of it back during the pandemic. Like you, I enjoy fasting for the health benefits, but we can definitely overeat in our window and make it all for naught. I think you hit on something important in the way you manage your daily calories. There is a good bit of evidence that calorie cycling (varying your daily calories) works better than eating the same amount every day. Our bodies are smart and adapt quickly, but if we keep it guessing and change things up occasionally, we lose better/faster. It sounds like you’re doing this naturally with some higher and lower days thrown in. I like that approach a lot. Thank you for sharing your method. You are beautifully sim and fit!

Yes, that's what I found...body thinks there's a famine, so it slows down...I've found higher calories for a day or two then low calories for 2 or 3 days. Fruit for a meal, veg for a meal, then a normal mixed ordinary day.. its slow, but it's been working.

When I did keto and intermittent fasting it was the easiest I have ever lost weight. But in the past I didn’t have as much of a sweet tooth as I do now. I blame it on my sister because when she comes she brings a lot of sweets, lol. I do realize that she does not stuffed them down my throat but if they’re around I am going to eat them. I eat healthy during the day but I know I need to change my eating habits late at night. I can't intermittent fast because I have a good metabolism and my doctor checked my iron was very low due to this method so I had to stop very dangerous due my higher metabolism. I also am on maintenance weight. I do exercise at home so lucky I am disciplined that way. My Mantra daily is Workout your mind then body will follow. I have lost 16 1bs since end of April this year and its all because of calorie counting! My food isn’t boring and its healthy with the treats at weekend but by calorie counting I’m not overeating. If I have sauces I tend to round the calories up if I’m not sure. I move more. I try not to eat after 6pm at night and then I have breakfast after 9am. I’ve cut down on bread, pasta etc but I’ve not eliminated anything. For me, writing down what I eat and calories per item has been beneficial in the weight I’ve lost. I didn’t realise I was consuming between 2-2500 cals per day before April. I’m going abroad on hols next week for 1 week and generally will try to guess the cals but I will still and have fun but try to eat and drink moderately 👍

Hey Nisha, thanks for sharing your story. You look FANTASTIC 😍
You are so right. Keto doesn't work for everyone & u actually can easily put on weight. I don't care who says what, that high fat doesn't let u go in calorie deficit. A small amount of food is already high calorie. So I ditched it.Now I eat lots of veggies,Greens, salad ,with good amount of protein & I avoid added fat(oils...etc). I won't go back to carbs of course since I'm 47 but no more keto😉 I did keto along intermittent fasting for 2 years & I can say I didn't melt like other people so I'm done. This method of lower calorie & less fat just works & I workout every single day. I don't eat first thing in the morning. So it's still fasting but not OMAD or 2 meals a day. I avoid snacking & I eat diner at 5:30 & that's it,until the next day around noon.
So bottom line, everyone is different & you should find what works for your body 🤗

My goodness this is so timely. I have been feeling the same way. At the end of 2019 I weighed 117 then Covid hit and nothing was the same again. I also am now three years older (63). My stomach and belly some days look like a volleyball (okay, maybe like half a volley ball, but still!). I’m post menopause and never went on any sort of hormone therapy. I work out 3-4 times a week sometimes if I’m feeling it, 5 days but not every week. AND still no weight loss. I’ve always done intermittent fasting. I’m now doing a high protein smoothly for after my workout, a light meal but high protein between this and dinner and dinner around 7:00. Then that’s it. I do drink lots of water. The one thing I do not do, is count just how many calories I take in on a daily basis. I think it’s a good idea to know and I also think that logging what you eat is also very helpful. All good advice and I’m so glad you feel better. I hope I will see some good results soon.
