This was the first Scotch Whisky I ever tried and I absolutely loved it straight away...that was maybe 2 months ago and since then, with the help of your videos as well as those of other whisky lovers, I have cultivated quite a taste for many different kinds of whisky...just want to say thank you and I LOVE your videos!

    Ralfy!!,
I'm 42 years old and had my first taste Scottish Whisky today.( Glenlivet-12)
A few drops of water, swirl, to the nose, strong alcohol, sweet smell, missed the florals, can't smell those. Tasted, swish, honey, honey honey. Put down the glass to tell my wife how great it was...and involuntarily broke into a Scottish accent. I love this Whisky. Thank you for the tips on how to drink it.

The average bar in America has one single malt to choose from...and it's always Glenlivet 12. Sometimes they will stock a second single malt, perhaps a Glenfiddich 12. But Glenlivet 12 is the most readily-available single malt on our side of the pond...which is too bad, since there are so many more interesting single malts for people to try.

Picked this up at the duty free. Zero packaging. So great deal.
More than halfway done the bottle after a few months and just gets smoother over time.

This was my first single malt. I still find it delightful!! I always keep some on hand, definatly an "anytime" single malt. I give it 86/100.

Hey Ralfy! Jeff here from Rockland Ontario again! I managed to get my hands on the last bottle of Ardbeg Uigeadail for sale in Ottawa at the LCBO! I have not opened it yet, but I got myself a small bottle of Glenlivet 12 in the mean time...gotta love that honey!! Take care Ralfy!! You are very kind to let us into your mind and world! Cheers!!

Yes, I am also tired of the lower end single malts hiking up prices because of some fancy packaging. Maybe like a 30 year high-end whiskey that naturally comes with a hefty price tag, but for a readily available common whiskey like this the package does little more than add to the price tag. I know my Glenfiddich bottle would have proabbly been about ten to fifteen bucks cheaper as well, had they not encased it in some silly cardboard box that I just throw away. Love these objective reviews!!

Good to see Glenlivet have gone back to more sensible packaging, however, I got a bottle of Glenfiddich at Christmas and I've never seen such ridiculously over the top packaging. Metal canister, clad in leather, high density foam on the inside, press stud on the lid and what happens with it? Straight in the bin. The distillery that makes the best selling single malt in the world should be the one least of all that makes such excessive packaging.

The intent of the box is for gift purposes. I often bring whisky from house to house when visiting so it also serves a useful purpose in that aspect; less chance of breaking the glass. You can also keep your whisky out of the sunlight while stored in the box, which is another plus. However, I've seen it available without the box in some liqour stores

Thank you Ralfy for your reviews, and most importantly, your VLOGs!!! I tryed the Macallan 10 (Fine Oak) and thought it was way too spicy, or earthy. (I'm no reviewer so my vocab is propally off.) I thought it was the one you reviewed, but on second check it was the (Sherry). My question, based on my remarks on the Macallan 10 Fine Oak, would the Glenlivet 12 be a better choice or the Macallan 10 Sherry?

A miracle!!! I thought I was out of all kind of liquor (except some Czech Becherovka that no one wants). Then, now at Friday lunch, I went through a cupboard in the kitchen and found an unopened bottle of 12 year old Glenlivet that I must have bought years ago. Now that is a real miracle. And I didn’t even pray for it.

hi +ralfystuff, i feel bitter at the finish... do you feel the same? it's very light, not intense like the Macallan, too light that after 2-3 swirls the mild sweetness is reduced to nothing... correct me if i'm wrong. i have looked through a few reviews of Glenlivet 12 and most of them gave a positive review and stated that it's very sweet, but i just couldn't find that sweetness

I don't know if you will be reviewing it Ralfy but can I just say I had the chance to taste the 18 year old Glenlivet. Its quite similar to the Nadurra but with more of an oak influence and an intense orangy bitterness of flavour to compete with the lovely honeyed layer. This is the one to go for if you find the Nadurra a bit one-dimensional in flavour. The 18 year old still has an amazing power and thick mouthfeel, despite the chill filtration and 43% bottling.

Just tried the Glenlivet 21 today, 130 dollars here in California. A fine whisky for sure, smooth and lots of flavor, but it didn't "wow" me like the Glenlivet 18 did. So it looks like the Glenlivet 18 is still my favorite so far, with Glenfiddich 15 being a close second. But I'll keep drinking the Glenlivet 21 and then go back to the Glenlivet 18 for another comparison and let you know. Also, I tried the Glenlivet 12. Certainly a better than average whisky, but the 18 spoiled me already.

Is that the expiration date!? Am I getting really old stock from the store?? or its fake??

I wasnt going to buy a bottle of this but I came across one for 25$ I could resist. Its not bad, its kinda like a more complex, more alcholic tasting glenfiddich. The finish isnt super exciting but for the price I would buy it again.

  • @shuboy05
    @shuboy05 14 років тому

@ralfystuff Well, I'm sure now that no caramel was added to the Nadurra. The whisky is noticeably lighter than the 12 year old despite the fact that Nadurra is the older whisky. I guess it's one reason the Nadurra is packaged in a clear bottle since it allows the buyer to see the color.

What's your opinion of the 15 year old Glenlivet French Oak Reserve? I'm almost exclusively an Islay drinker but I purchased a bottle today on a whim (it was on sale for a good price). I'd like to educate myself more on the Speyside single malts but I'm now worried I may find the Glenlivet 15 a bit dull compared to whiskies like Bowmore, Laphroaig, Ardbeg, Talisker etc.

I just recently entered the world of single malt, i started out with a glenfiddich 12, which im still not done with. But im starting to like it Especially the aftertaste.
    - When im done with my glefiddich bottle should i buy a glenlivet 12? or should i stay with glenfiddich til im really use to drink whiskey.
im still no big fan of the tasteeven though i REALLY enjoy the aftertaste, but i guess that i learn to enjoy more of it with time.

For the price and variety that Glenlivet occupies (with Glenfiddich 12 and others), what is the standout in your opinion?
I'll be getting into Laphroaig and the Islays later on, but what I'm looking for now is a 10-12 year old palatable, balanced scotch in the vein of Glenfiddich 12.

Hey! Very hard on the package! For what i see, it's interesting, masculine, traditional. Nowadays everything is cheap and made to last too little, that sturdy cardboard box is nice for collecting and if you have a few left for storing stuff! And I bet the cardboard is made from recycle paper.

Love it! You probably missed the floral bit because you were talking. It's been awhile, so you probably know by now, but right after you drink try and breathe out through just your nose. This will pull the remaining "fumes" back up and right out over your smell receptors. That's where you'll find the flowers those honey bees are looking for.

Chilling the whisky is to be saved for the poor quality drams.
The tumbler glass and added ice is there so that you cant taste and smell the stuff you are drinking quite as much. I'm sure Ralfy will agree with me on this; If you want to enjoy a single malt:
    1. No ice.
    2. A drop of water varying on the whisky in question and its alcohol content
    3. If possible, get a glencairn glass like you see Ralfy use.

Ralfy, hello, what comments do you have about PR's decision on stop bottling and shipping the 12 yr. old version of The Glenlivet in favor of a NAS Founder's Reserve? Do you know if The USA will be affected by this decision? Thank you.

Hey Ralfy, I happened to pick up a bottle of this tonight, not because I haven't had it, nor do I think it's that great...but my local store had it on special. Upon examination, the back of the label is printed 2006/11/28 09:15...am I to believe that this spirit has been in the bottle for 4 years? and if so does that help out the quality in the product in anyway?
