    Some people on the CarAV subreddit were saying with AUX connection that both D/A conversion from your source along with the A/D n D/A conversion from your head unit are also being used as well. Despite having a shit ass Blaupunkt headunit and cheap 60 dollar coaxials I can still notice my Fiio M9 makes a huge difference with everything. I've also tested my Fiio M9 Bluetooth on my friends 2019 RAM 1500 stock system and it sounds just as good as when he is using his iPhone with USB connection. It's wild.
    I just picked up a used Fiio M11 but haven't tested it yet. I'm gonna start using it once I get a new car with a system in it. Gonna use that DAP directly into my Helix DSP and save my 80PRS and M9 for another build.

    • @CarAudioHorizons
      @CarAudioHorizons  2 роки тому +1

      I’ll add this so there is no confusion. When using a DAP and you’re going auxiliary in, yes you are using multiple DAC conversions but because you’re using the DAC of the DAP first it’s always going to give you the best sound quality.
      With my set up I’m using a PAC Amp Pro so I’m bypassing the DAC in the system as I’m using the Optical Toslink out of the PAC Amp Pro into the DSP’s Optical toslink input.
      Then the DSP would be doing it’s D/A conversion. So you will have the best signal possible right from the start. I only use this with CarPlay now and since I bought the Fiio M17 I never use CarPlay.
      For the best connection you would want to go straight to the DSP if you had one. Depending on which DAP you had (I have the Fiio M17 now) If I had a mid tier DAP (FiiO M11, M11 Plus ESS or LTD I would use the coaxial digital output of the DAP into the Coaxial Digital input of the DSP. If you had a Flagship DAP then you might prefer the multiple DAC conversations and go analog or you might prefer still to go Coaxial Digital. It all depends on your DAP and what you prefer.
      But for this video just using the DAP with no DSP via auxiliary input will make the biggest difference.
      You will love the M11 as I believe it’s the best DAP on the market for the price.

    My Helix DSP only has :
    1) Line Input
    2) Hi-Pass Input
    3) Optical Input

      @CarAudioHorizons  Рік тому +3

      I haven’t tested any of the Sony DAP’s yet so I’m not sure how they sound. You can go with whatever DAP you choose as there are many choices these days.
      Not many have optical out though, so you might just have to go analog in. Usually the Helix DSP’s let you use two channels as auxiliary inputs. So just check your DSP manual

    Does Apple High Res streaming service have the same high audio quality as a DAP through a toslink to a DSP?

    • @CarAudioHorizons
      @CarAudioHorizons  8 місяців тому +1

      I can only speak for that DAP’s I have tested and depending on the DAP and DSP it should. A lot of DSP will only give you 24-96Kz but I would never chase numbers as it will get you nowhere 😆 It’s all about how good the recording is.
      It starts with the recording and then your install and tune, and finally the equipment you have.

I am not sure however how I would listen to a DAP as my vehicle does not have a Auxillary port to plug into. It does have a USB which is hooked into the Audio. Would i still gain great sound if I laisten to the DAP thru Bluetooth or would the sound quality be limited with Bluetooth. I have heard that bluetooth can not stream High RES very well. Do they make a cable I could use with USB and the DAP to plug into my audio system ? Thanks for the article I will ne looking to purchase a DAP now.

      Unfortunately using a DAP and going into your vehicles USB isn’t going to make much of a difference compared to your phone.
      Probably the best thing to do is go with a DSP/AMP combo and hopefully your vehicle has some type of integration piece like a PAC Audio Amp Pro or Zen. If not call up Mobile Solutions in Calgary and ask For Larry or Chris to see what Helix options are available for your vehicle.
      It’s not cheap but you can start with a DSP/Amp or separate DSP and amp or amps and build your system off of that.

      @@djrez2107 If you watch any of my product reviews then you will know that each device has it’s own sound signature.
      You can use all kinds of products in different ways depending on what outputs it has. Some have coaxial digital outputs to connect straight to a DSP via coaxial digital which also has it’s own sound signatures. Some have 3.5 to RCA’s, some have 4.4 out, some products have no DAC at all like a Topping d10s(Has a DAC but you don’t use it) or SMSL po100 Pro which work with a phone or tablet. Then there are streamers as well that you can use in your vehicle with a DSP.
      So to answer your question, yes you can use your phone with a dongle DAC but you won’t necessarily get the best sound. There are budget gems out there but for the most part it’s price dependent.
      There is no dongle that comes close to a Fiio M17 which is Fiio flagship DAP. You can get other devices that work with phones and tablets that can be as good or slightly better than a budget DAP.
      It just depends on your budget and preferences. I have been using DAP’s for years now and the Flagship DAP’s or even some of the mid tier DAP’s blow away anything in car audio for head units for sound quality.
