I am more than happy with the M11 Plus. Solid performance at its price point.
Always ike your format of review man!🤘🏽
I found, with my headphones and IEM's, the gain choice is important in how the amp performs. I have the LCD-X, and found it boring, analytical, but lifeless. Then, I got the 4.4mm Audeze premium cable. The M11 Plus, on medium gain, is much improved. On high gain, it's very dynamic, bass really hits, but too much sometimes.
OTOH, the M11 Plus is the only DAP I've used. So, once I improved the sound, I felt satisfied. Satisfied enough to stop there, as far as DAP's.
Would be interesting to get your take on the new Astell & Kern SP3000 shortly
I could cut a hole in the case, to access the micro SD card slot. But, maybe it keeps that slot clean, or protected from accidental opening? Not likely that a pin will press exactly on the tiny release button by accident, but Murphy's law.
I like that the volume goes to 120, means smaller (more subtle) volume increases per touch.
Every time I load more tracks on my M11, it has to "scan for music" before it recognizes the new albums, or songs. I assume you did that before having to reload all those tracks, like you did when transferring the SC card back to your other DAP?
I've been more interested in DAPs recently. I am glad that you had one in for a review since I am still researching options and features I found it helpful.
I wonder if there is a software control for higher power mode for the Amp section. I replaced the stock power brick on my desktop 789 with the Burson one and it fixed the sound problems you mentioned with the THX 78* based circuit. I know that is a apples to oranges comparison between a desktop Amp and a DAP but if the AMP is in low power power mode the dynamics may be impacted.
Interesting. I know the PSU was a source of complaint for Drop 789. I didn't find the macrodynamics to be a problem here, just a flat, dull, and spatially ambiguous sound.
@@wavetheorysound "Lack of Mid-bass", "Lifeless" are words/phrases you mentioned and to my ears are always tied to a lack of dynamics. Also I forgot to ask What ESS DAC filter did you use ? My Cayin N3-pro has 6 modes and all sound slightly different except for the default one that sounds pretty bad IMO, I use the Short, Short Delay Sharp and Low dispersion Short Delay mostly and avoid the Sharp Filter like the plague.
Are your comments on the amplifier based on each of the DAP's three gain settings?
How often would you change a 1tb sd card?
I love your reviews, you are so honest and I love how you say it. Was about purchase this. I am concerned about the amp performance. Please can you recommend another DAP for a similar price I would be very grateful.
Thanks for the kind words. My DAP experience is quite limited, but I have had positive experiences with Hiby & Cayin DAPs - Cayin bases theirs on Hiby. They have several different models so I'm sure 1 or 2 will be at a price you're comfortable with. Good luck!
@@wavetheorysound Thank you again, I am expecting a Cayin N6ii to arrive tomorrow can’t wait. I believe I would have regretted getting the M11plus.
@@anncleverley4721 Very nice! The N6ii is my current DAP. I use E02 module. Which module(s) did you go with?
@@wavetheorysound Thank you again for replying. I went with the E01 I didn’t know much about the modules and this was all they had in stock, have since read extensively about them and I am so please with this module. I am using FIIO IEMs and the N6ii is unbelievable and so glad I saw your review. It also works really well with the Focal Bathys and especially in dac mode. I am in music ecstasy.
@@anncleverley4721 Glad to hear it! 👍
I'm not sure how I can believe all else you said here if you got one basic thing wrong: this DAP supports 8X full MQA decoding.
How many gigabytes can you put in a micro SD, thank you very much

I put in a 1.5TB card.
Should I be that guy? There's not anybody here to stop me, so the devil on my shoulder is telling me to be that guy. I know I shouldn't, but I can't help it.
...First! 😈
🥇
I go with an IFI Go Blue and a stable of IEM’s ..I can’t stand having another large piece of tech following me around..and in my work environment case probably getting damaged .
Great video and love the shorts 👍
Love my Sony. Just not enough power. Thinking of adding a dongle
I actually sold my Fiio M11 Plus, cuz i was rather disappointed from the sound signature..way too cold, clinical and lifeless..compared it with ibasso DX300 and much older Fiio DAPs (X3 + X5)..
Do you really have to say, "So-and-so have made no attempt to influence my opinion..."? I figured that bit is implied.
Do you catch hell in the comments if you don't say it?
Mostly trying to be transparent. I know many viewers want to know how a unit was sourced. A few times I forget to state it on camera and then put it in the description. What's better? 🤷
@@wavetheorysound I don't think one way is better than the other. Just curious if people needed the reassurance.
