Basically what happened - the guy in charge of the build was essentially a civil engineer and never built a boat in his life. A boat has to be built in a specific manner, otherwise it wont come together properly. The civil engineer, being a civil engineer, under political pressure, gave commands to meet certain progress payment stages so they didnt go bust. So the hull was joined at the wrong time which meant it needed to be undone. About 4/5 years ago it would have been cheaper to scrap it and start again. That engineer was sacked and they eventually got someone in who had experience in building boats. They had go come in, undo all the work and rebuild parts of it. Thats why it was so far over budget and time. They should have scrapped it and started again and saved themselves hundreds of millions of pounds, but that would have lookedvbad politically so they were forced to carry on with the mess. The taxpayers literally coughed up hundreds of millions of pounds so Sturgeon could save face in the runup to an election. Corrupt.

Daihatsu or Kawasaki probably had an engine on the shelf, but no,they wanted to go all Green, with no fuel even available up here to fuel it...absolute eejits
It’s been known for years the bulkhead was made of balsa wood for the launch. As for the red paintwork, all ships show this when empty. When passengers and vehicles go on, the ship sinks into the water.
The lesson from history is that the original (1911) King George V class of battleship, consisting of four vessels, was completed between January 1911 and August 1913, which was a scandal because the British public was chanting (in music halls and at sporting fixtures) "we want eight and we won't wait." I do enjoy these videos as have no love for NS, the SNP or independence, BUT, I’m not seeing any revelations here. Hulls get launched all the time, long before the ship is fitted out, so all the forensic examination of the two pictures is a bit OTT I’m afraid. Yes there was painted windows and something vaguely resembling a bridge. Was this done for a photo op when the hull was getting launched ? Probably, is that a revelation ? No, not really. The end of the video draws parallels between election results and this “launch”. This sounds like opinion, but, again, is it a revelation that ANY politician goes looking for good news stories to pose in front of the cameras? Again, no, they all do it. So in summary, hill launched no different from many others, politician uses this as a photo op, no different from many others. The only story is the same story about the delays and spiralling costs, therefore, the SNP Governments procurement processes, which seems to have not seen any clues as to why the costs could spiral and the delays would be encountered. This is the story that needs exposing. It is “normal “ to lunch the vessel incomplete as to add the superstructure it would make the vessel unstable without adding ballast. What is not normal is to pretend that the vessel is nearly complete by adding items to the vessel that later required to be removed at cost to the vessel’s owners. Everyone in the shipbuilding industry knows that there will follow a long period of alongside fitting out after the vessel has been lunched.
It’s the same pile of crap, look at the “oil canning “on the sides.Probably the worst plating I’ve ever seen. The bow bulb (which had to be removed and replaced) was unbelievably comically bad
I wonder if they used thinner steel plate to save money....considering where the ship will be operating....scary...I know, I sailed around Scotland in winter on coasters in the late 80's and early 90's....scary bad oil canning as you call it.
Imagine if a Scottish shipyard had said: "We can build the ferries on time, but we only have one slipway. What we'd like to do is have an English yard fabricate the accommodation modules, we can build the hull, with our usual high quality, and vertically integrate it all here in Scotland. It's Just like we done before with the English yards, where we sent modules to them. Most importantly, we'll keep work and a lot of the economic benefit in the UK, and if we do do an amazing job on time there is a lot more work". They imagine if someone with such fixed views said "No we want this to be a Scottish job, and you'll just have to work around the issue of two ships and one slipway". None of that happened in any way, and no one would be so blinkered to turn down such a request form a shipyard with one slipway and two ferries to build, it's just made up.
Just for info, most (if not all) ships are launched before they are ready for service. The bit you see sticking up is the bulbous bow which increases stability when sailing. The bow can get below the surface if they take on ballast water but they don't do that on a launch. They want the ship to be light. When full of people and cars they can expel ballast
Without getting involved in politics, as a retired chief marine engineer, ships are launched "light ship" so they will float by the time they reach the end of the slipway. They don't have propulsion and are manouvered alongside by tugs. They are then "fitted out" with all the equipment required to actually operate. Otherwise, they would be too heavy to launch! Hope this clarifies things!!
I remember when shipping ran all the way from Govan to Gourock, now it's just Ferguson at Port Glasgow, I saw it being built and sitting off the shore for years. We need someone like Trump to come in and clear the swamp. It waz just a shell and they launched it I was there
It was well known they had to get it into water so Fergussons got millions of kickbacks and extras Craig. If they never launched then Yard would have shut. That's why it was basically a hull and rest was wood
As well as the painted on windows, it didn't have any engines installed and the bow wave breaker wasn't the correct design either and had to be replaced. The reason for the premature launch of an unfinished ship, was to trigger a vital payment for Ferguson Marine, it had to hit the water for this to happen, despite the subsequent monumental build issues it entailed. The worst thing about this saga that even the Norse wouldn't believe, is that no-one, nada, zilch, persons will ever be held accountable for the colossal over spend, especially Sturgeon, Yusaf, Swinney, or any of the chancers who fooled the taxpayers and are still laughing all the way to the bank.
Is this not the case with all ships ? When it’s launched it’s nowhere near finished , the reason it’s sitting so high in the water is it’s not been fitted out yet . Still thousands of tons of equipment and accommodation stuff to add . Much as I hate the snp I think this is pretty normal .
They're usually around 95% done at the time of launch. Look at how much mass is missing, by the waterline. There's a watertight hull, that's all we can be sure of!
Tasmania Australia. State govt commissioned 2 ferries @$500M . Builder went half broke. Govt propped them up with $70M to get them built. 2 quangos involved. Plus govt ministry..Neither talked to one another. As result no docks for them to use for at least 2 years in Tasmania. Now Scotland has the ferries. Millions to cover the berthings there. Scotland also got Victoria Australia Commonwealth games at 11th hour. When dumped .Oz taxpayers paid for move. As in the ferries. Minister in charge just moved sideways. YOU reckon your reps are duds?
The bridge... Where you steer a ship at the helm, the missing weight had it floating at half draft, exposing the hull, and the keel runs from bow to stern, or aft if you like, right down the middle, the lowest part of the ship. 😉👍

I don’t believe you are from a seafaring family 🤣🤣 the thumb is the bulbous bow and boat are modular built with sponson sections. As the weight increases the bulbous bow will be further submerged. So yeah an absolute blag like her government 👏👏 great work.

😂😂😂😂😂 ye cannae make it up. 😂😂😂only in Glesga. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
I wonder if they had to move it from one dock to another, or wanted to check it floats before putting engine.
I wonder how much money has been paid, by the tax payers either in direct cash or on credit, for work not done.
I remember when shipping ran all the way from Govan to Gourock, now it's just Ferguson at Port Glasgow, I saw it being built and sitting off the shore for years. We need someone like Trump to come in and clear the swamp. It waz just a shell and they launched it I was there
it also was towed to the dry dock some years ago to remove 40 tons of barnacles that collected whilst lying tied up
Amazing distraction tactics, well spotted 👍
I’m glad you have THE BRIDGE !! moments and you run a respected utube channel , I’ve still got a few miles left then
Same here!
you have to admit it is hilarious
make another moon video Craig
Sturgeon would make a great subject for ripping yarns. So much material. 😂😂😂😂
It was well known they had to get it into water so Fergussons got millions of kickbacks and extras Craig. If they never launched then Yard would have shut. That's why it was basically a hull and rest was wood
Unfortunately Scottish labour is too expensive to compete on the world stage
It's a perfect symbol of the SNP's initial launch.
A sham(e)
Is this not the case with all ships ?
When it’s launched it’s nowhere near finished , the reason it’s sitting so high in the water is it’s not been fitted out yet .
Still thousands of tons of equipment and accommodation stuff to add .
Much as I hate the snp I think this is pretty normal .
They're usually around 95% done at the time of launch. Look at how much mass is missing, by the waterline. There's a watertight hull, that's all we can be sure of!
@@Ch1ck3nSp4nk3r 100% wrong.
Snp kings of the kickback envelopes. I wonder who's on their payroll.
Everything has turned to sht......and every passing week increasingly so...
I noted that Sturgeon's mother's maiden name is Ferguson is there any connection between her and Ferguson Marine?
Bet her mother has had her fair share of marines 😂🤣😂🤣
Nice one Craig 👍 perfect example of politicians trying to deceive.
I always thought Nicola had a guilty and guarded look about her - now I think the same about Keir (especially after watching that ridiculous "Tulip" speech the other day; let's see if Tulip has really been doing "exactly the right thing").
I was at the Condor at Arbroath in the 1960s. "The Magnificent Seven" were in every cinemar. Arbroath had it,s 7 maidens callewd "The Maggie Seven" who frequented Hotels! Not pubs! Ladies don,t use Pubs in Scotland. One night . My friend (Speg Leech) walked the delightfull Maggie home (Hame)!.On the way, they stopped to enjoy a little romance. Maggie said in her most maidenly, yet sweet voice the longest word in Gaelic! As long as Llanfair P.G. on Anglesey!. she said....."Puritonmerhond annalgiyeeawonk!...How sweet
It was launched early without engines purely so that she could have her moment in front of the cameras because she wasn't invited to the launching of HMS Queen Elizabeth which had been just a few months before.
A publicity stunt, that probably cost millions extra and added god knows how much extra time onto the build!
Imagine if she’d got what she wanted. Scary stuff.
The Ship is launched as a 'Hull' then it has all the window openings cut out, engines and everything else it needs is added to her afterwards.
The Plimsol line . Is the term. Your looking tired, get some sleep. Appreciate your moans and insights , bless from grumpy old fart.
So we paid for Two boats, a fake one to be dismantled and rebuilt to get one which sort of works 7 years later 🤡
A lavender boat 😮
I don’t believe you are from a seafaring family 🤣🤣 the thumb is the bulbous bow and boat are modular built with sponson sections. As the weight increases the bulbous bow will be further submerged. So yeah an absolute blag like her government 👏👏 great work.
