To abandon exams opens the floodgates for students to cheat. There is already a major problem with students plagiarising work in their essays, which the university authorities do nothing about. I was a history student jn the 1980s and have taught history at university since the late 90s, and the expectations of students has dropped considerably. This is the result of a decline in the quality of students since Tony Blair, which has resulted in the devaluation of degrees and churn out graduates based on the ridiculous assumption that more graduates equals a strong economy. The focus now is on virtue signalling and infantilization rather than ability and academic rigour. A place at university is viewed as a right rather than a privilege to be earned through hard work. If you remove exams then there is no objective means of assessment, and manipulation of grades and poorer candidates being given higher grades based upon their ethnicity or race becomes the norm. The reason black British and Bangladeshi students perform badly is due to culture not race. Young white men also perform badly, but they are not given preferential treatment.
