And the scariest thing about Dredd is... it wasn't about a big incident, it was about an average day the Judges have to face.

i feel like the sheer response from Peach Tower was alot like “hitting the mansion” considering it’s claimed Ma Ma controls majority if not ALL of the slo - mo distribution towards the end of the movie and she is still seeking to expand into two more sectors i can’t name, definitely a great movie we can both attest to that though

    • @jpgduff

He had no problem with it as he was a 2000ad reader as a kid. He understands that Dredd's face is *never* seen. Even when injured (or a different character - that actually happened!!! A badly burned character swathed in bandages turned out to be Dredd; out in the Cursed Earth).

Necropolis is where The Dark Judges, aided by the Sisters of Death, use their infernal powers to take control of the Judges and MC1 before systematically ‘Judging’ (ie killing) the citizens. “The crime is life. The sentence is death”. Whereas Judgement Day centres on a Necromancer called Sabat who uses the planets own power to reanimate all the dead of the earth as zombies. Both stories are mind blowing.

During the 80's 2000ad ran a Dredd story which was an analogue of the Four horseman of the apocalypse. Four death judges came from another dimension where it was observed all crime was committed by the living and therefore made life a crime punishable by death. it has been revisited many times in the UK comic 2000ad where Dredd is still the main comic strip character.

Death, Fear and Fire are the three that I remember. I think that the fourth one was called famine but I'm not sure. They reasoned that as crime was committed by the living then life itself was a crime! Needless to say they preside over a dead world! They were repeat characters and were some of Dredd's most dangerous foes, especially as they couldn't be captured or even permanently killed.
I'll have to dig out my Dredd year books and read the story again now. There was a follow up story where Dredd and Anderson actually went to their dimension to try to destroy them.

Dredd is a masterful film. It's a mixture of dirty harry, training day. As a a kid who grew up reading 2000AD this is everything I could have wanted.
I agree about the 3D as this put me off and I didn't bother watching at the cinema. When it came out on dvd I was like OMG. This is brilliant. I fully support this style of cinematography, storyline, characterisation for a series.
Keith Urban is PERFECTLY cast as Dredd. Dredd is Clint Eastwood as dirty harry.

    I love the Dredd movie!
I don't know if it was 3D that made it fail, Judge Dredd comics doesn't have a very big fan base. (Too much bad taste in comics out there! 😉)

I would never break the LUR!
    I AM THE LURRR!
This rendition was far superior to the original movie. I loved the dark, visceral and supremely dystopian vibe of Mega City 1 and the entire setting was perfected to a T. I still have my fingers crossed for a sequel some day.

I love how this move has become a cult classic. People didn’t go to see it in theaters but since then more and more people have realized what a gem it is. Hopefully there is a sequel with Karl Urban. But I’m also happy that at least this one was made. I don’t like when sequels are crap.

Perfect exploration. I actually enjoyed this version a bit more than the original. Dredd is definitely more badass in this one. This is the Dredd I've always wanted to see. Similar to the comic book Judge Dredd.
Anyway, great video, and thanks for the upload. Thumbs up!

This movie is awesome! The makers did everything right, like letting go of the comic book mega city one...It didn't work, we saw that in Stallone's Dredd! Urban's desolate, distopian concrete warzone WITHOUT flying cars and such works way better on the big screen! No trees or any kind of vegetation, just sheer hopelessnes...And Dredd trying desperately to hold civilisation together with everything he's got! But he really doesn't execute people on a whim, you know! He follows the law and dished out punishment fitting the crime according the law! Fucking beautiful, man!

17,000 reported crimes a day in a population of 800,000,000 isn’t a bad statistic at all, that’s actually a very low crime rate. That’s only 1 crime for every 47,000 residents. I don’t think there’s a crime rate that low anywhere in the world, even Antarctica.

A fantastic movie FUCKED over for a well deserved sequel because a studio wanted to focus on a gimmick that was already unpopular at the time.

I loved this film! I'm a big fan of the comics and I really appreciated this stripped back film that got to grips with the basics. It didn't have the budget to do Mega City One justice (no pun intended) so it focused most of the action in a Mega City towerblock.
Actors and actresses were fabulous! I could tell that there was a lot of love behind this.
Very nice review of one of my favourite films! Many thanks!

only positive comments here. damn right. hope the cast and crew know they did a wonderful job delivering a kick-ass movie to the fans. the studio can go f*** itself for the sabotage. i hate 3d. my head hurts a lot after just 30min of watching. but now i own this movie in my private collection and i am proud of it

Dredd was so good in 3d at the theatre, probably one of the best uses of 3d in movies, made the slowmo and shoot-out scenes really pop i've watched it multiple times at home and in my opinion 3d on the big screen is the best way to watch it

I was so into 2000AD as a kid. Bought it from age 7 to age 16 (only stopped because my family moved to Asia). There's no way this stuff could be made into a single film, it needs to be a series. With CGI it can happen. It really annoys me that it hasn't happened yet. It's simply incredible and once some production company commits to it they'll make a huge amount of cash if it's done properly.

It's a shame they haven't made any sequels or expansions yet, Dredd is a fantastic fictional world and I really want to see more of it.
Edit: Huh a TV series, this could be great if they present it correctly, Dredd would probably fit better in a TV format.
