Just a quick thing to add to this, he was actually sick during this performance with a cold and couldn’t really sing and was going to cancel but because of the opportunity to perform on mtv he did it anyways and turned it into this, just absolutely unreal
Hey, not sure if I have mentioned this before (I have often had a few wines before I venture onto UA-cam) but where is the merch with the slogo "It's a Dipthong Thing". I would definably buy a shirt if it was XXL and black with the writing in a metal style :)
This song is truly amazing. If you enjoyed that one I would say to check out the mtg live performance by Alive in Chain "Down in a Hole" but also read up a bit about what brought them to the performance, it's very sad and very powerful yet so beautiful.
MTV*
Some say we get a fantastic singer every generation. Grunge had about 7 of them.
I was lucky enough to have been born and raised in Seattle, growing up as a teenager in the 90's and we were so spoiled. The fit of the day was any sort of purple shirt with a green flannel over the top. Then a zip up hoodie with any band of the time. From the local bands to the top billing. Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Mother Love Bone (RIP Andy Wood Stardog Champion), Soundgarden. All of them. It was cool to be whatever you wanted. Always good times.
And all but Eddie are gone now. What a loss… Seattle created temporary perfection.
Like a picture of a stained glass window when the sun hit it to perfection right before it crashes to the ground.
Layne Fucking Staley
Layne and Eddie are in my heart forever
WE..were absolutely spoilt weren't we ! The only fallout is that those of us from that generation we are all in our mix to.late 50' s now with creaky knees from sitting on the floor for 40 yrs playing guitar ;)
Pearl Jam's Ten album is one of the greatest album ever created.
I agree with you 100%. Not a bad song on the whole album.
One of the few albums that is 100% listenable and likable. Very few like it. 100% agreed my man.
Word
The whole album is perfect.
True
"I know someday you'll have a beautiful life I know you'll be a star In somebody else's sky But why
Why Why can't it be Oh can't it be mine" - Brings me to tears every time I hear it.
absolutely, my favorite lines of the song
It’s “SUN” not star
@Winston Hillchurch it's star. Look the lyrics up of you need too but you're wrong. The sun is mentioned earlier in the song
Tears... every fucking time, too.
Arguably one of the best phrases written period, my opinion.
The saddest song on earth if you have ever loved and lost so deeply that you are never the same person again.
Agreed 100000%
Tell me about it
THIS
Definitely agree with this comment
This song breaks my heart everytime.
Id give anything to hear this song for the first time again
Oh my fucking God, YES!\
@@insanejughead holy SHIT HOW TF ARE YOU HERE??!! This is like my favorite song ever lol!!
@@nach0699 Dude, I've been watching Elizabeth talk about certain songs for the past two years. I first found her when she covered Kingdom by Devin Townsend.
Good to see you, bro!
I know right? I feel this was so many times about a few things that I’ve experienced before that come back in a bigger way because of the internet and smartphones in everyone’s pockets. I can’t imagine how things and music will be in the next 15-20 years.
Among the things I wish I could erase from my brain and experience for the first time again, this performance, disturbeds sound of silence on Conan, the prodigy music for the jilted generation album, ibiza holidays, the witcher 3, driving a bmw m5. Life is full of those moments when you look back, with more to come that you don't yet know about.
"I know some day you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star...in somebody else's sky but why...why.... why can't it be mine?" One of the hardest hitting lines of all time
for real
That is the real thing of music!!! Gives me the chills!!
Yeah, well Eddie's High School Ex didn't become a Rock Superstar, so while she might be a star in another's sky, Eddie got it together in time...
this is one of my favorite songs of all time, and a reminder that success is the best revenge
Very heart-wrenching. It feels like he's singing about me. I'm in that place in my life right now. Such a beautiful performance.
My favorite line! I wish someone could just cut that part on a repeat loop for me to enjoy
Watching people fall in love with Eddie never gets old
Who else watched for 24 minutes just to see her reaction to the gut wrenching "We! We belong! We belong together! Together! Weeee! We belong! We belong together!!"?
That gets me every time, best performance of Black ever.
That is by far the greatest line ever written.
👋
Me! 🖐 😂😂😂😂 I knew she would flip out.
Lol yeah
This performance lives rent free in my heart and mind for life.
I can't contain my crush on this woman's excitement for music.. How expressive and overjoyed she gets is so fun to watch :)
Also I've found watching her feeling the music so much makes me feel it too. I've heard this version of black hundreds of times before but I never felt chills like I did on this video
I love watching these youngsters first reaction to the likes of Chris Cornell and Eddie Vedder. They don't make em like that anymore.
She is amazing, and though I'm cynical about the opinions and critiques of most reactors (though I still love it), I would trust this woman 100% in what she's saying about voice development
@@jordanprusack2027 youngsters? Lol I'm 28 my guy. I grew up with grunge
She is delightful in every sense.
Best thing MTV ever did were these unplugged shows. Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains, Nirvana, Live, Eric Clapton, Stone Temple Pilots, Page & Plant... these bands had some of their best versions/performances of songs in these shows in my opinion. Showed how talented these artists were live.
Idk if now but Zoé has also a great umplugged
I have loved Pearl Jam since I was 13. We must keep them safe at all costs.
Queensryche & METALLICA ALSO 😊
Justine Bieber...hahahahahaha
I agree with you on the best thing MTV did was the series of Unplugged. The songs broken down to the very raw sounds of the great artists they had on the program.
This entire performance should be watched and reacted to. one of the best performances ever televised.
I agree. It is beautiful
If only it hadn't been taken down
As was Nirvana’s and AIC’s unplugged.
I watched it live as a massive fan. Had just seen them at the Glenn Miller Ballroom in Boulder Co a couple of months earlier. A show with about 100, maybe 200 people in the crowd. Vedder over thoae couple years was one of the most dynamic things I've ever witnessed.
And Eddy had a horrible cold during this performance. Crazy amazing! This is my favorite song period. I went through a horrendous divorce after 30 years of marriage and 6 years dating. She was my high school sweetheart, different high schools, blind date. She told me she loved me but wasn’t IN love with me anymore. And we were both virgins. I haven’t been with a women since and never will. I sing to this song and am numb after every damn time. Thank you Eddy and all Pearl Jam members for helping to keep me alive. Even though there’s so much pain in this world. I also have bipolar disorder. Disease from the pits of hell. Love to you all!!!
45 years old and this still brings tears to my eyes...
True dat! 46!

43. but honestly i feel these things deeper as i get older.
“I know you’ll be a star in somebody else’s sky.” That lyric is gold.
I love that lyric; I think that this is my favorite song from Pearl Jam and has brought a tear to my eye for 30+ years now. Truly heart-wrenching but beautiful.
agree!! it hits you
Why? Why? Can't it be, oh can't it be mine(sky)?
Devastating.
Yeah, there are so many good lines in this song but that one just expresses it all, and every man who has had his heart broken understands and feels this. The best music takes the feelings and pain in us and gives it expression so we can go through it without feeling alone, and maybe heal
The great thing about Pearl Jam is, when singing along, you can just make up entire words and it still sounds right. I sing along to all the songs and guarantee I'm getting 90% of the words wrong. lol.
Not to worry, even Eddie messed lyrics in this version :)
I don't know if it's available on UA-cam anymore but you just reminded me of the misheard lyrics version of Yellow Ledbetter
@@pappajudas9267 I've been singing along to Yellow Ledbetter for thirty years and I still have no clue what the lyrics are.
@@pappajudas9267 Yellow Ledetter came to mind here too.

Eddie Vedder is without a doubt the most important voice I have heard since Robert Plant. His commitment to his fans is what legends are made of. Watching his live performances will blow your mind.
Yes! He’s right up there with Robert Plant!
Absolutely Spot On
He is one of the best live performers ever. Eddie can do no wrong ❤️
My best best friend was killed while we were working together when we were 19, Black was his favorite song. Haven't listened to it since his funeral 5 years ago, decided I had to listen to this, I don't regret the decision at all. Heartbreaking, but so beautiful at the same time, I know Brendan would appreciate the shit out of this. Keep yourselves safe and get home to your families after the day folks ❤️
Godspeed
he had good taste :)
Sorry for your loss Lars Walther, but as long as it moves and effects you in this way, then your friend will never be too far from your heart, keep that feeling and your friend close and they will always be with you in some way.
♥️
I’m very sorry for your loss 🤍
God. This is such a visceral performance. Dude was out here straight up grieving on stage. Man.
I cannot ever watch this whether here or live without grieving with him. It strips you bare every time
Yeah it's also reported, I think in Rollingstone, that he was literally sick of singing it because ever where he went people were playing it & he couldn't get away from it. People literally took his song from him
And as touching as this performance is, I think that when he played this song in honor of Chris Cornell hits even harder. When he ends the song half singing half crying "come back" absolutely kills me every single time
He has such a special tremolo effect he uses. Very skilled and powerful voice. But there is loads of pain in his voice too.
hell yeah
It doesn't matter how many times you watch this, even hundreds, the emotion of this song just never fades.
Never brother
Even when I’m fine this song still hurts. Amazing musical piece.
Same thing with release
@@williamswiniuch7527 yes!
I've tested this theory. My findings is it's true.
The growly Mmmmm Eddie does on this performance has always given the goosebumps. Such an amazing set, good times!
Crazy the volume and tone he makes with his mouth closed.
I dunno anything about singing, but I know I can't do it
There is a beautiful solo version of eddie playing this song as a tribute to Chris Cornell shortly after he passed, the two of them had been close friends. He can't get through the song without crying and the whole crowd is feeling all of the emotions with him, its very powerful.
I saw this on MTV when it was on tv live, I was in 8th grade. My dad was in the room, he hated 90's rock, he's more of a Beach Boy's 1950's sound type of guy. When this song was getting to it's climax I remember him standing up in the living room... I did too, we were both absolutely blown away by this song and how amazing the live performance was. He's 68 now and still a Pearl Jam fan.
Nice!
Great memory to have with your Dad.
love this memory!
i watched it live too and recorded it on vhs! in germany! i hadn’t heard black before this but was already into pearl jam and had their vs. album (my first non-christian cd i ever bought haha tells you a little about my upbringing) when this song came on i was hooked. it just got better and better and them singing the background melody at the end while eddie is losing it was just mesmerizing. my favorite mtv unplugged performance hands down.
You'll remember that moment all your life buddy, beautiful
"OK, I can do this without crying."
-Me before listening to black, every time
You too?
Same. The song literally drips with pain.
I am not sure that I have ever made it through without crying.
Same, same.
i know someday you'll have a beautiful life, i know you'll be a star in somebody else's sky
The thing I love about this live version is you can see he's not singing to be great. He's singing to tell a story , to give you the emotion that he felt. Just pouring everything he had into every single line and note. Just watching his face with the song on silent would convey the pain and emotion in this song. It's why I can't listen to this song very often. Just opens the floodgates of emotion. Truly a legendary masterpiece !! :)
This live version is so much more emotional and since you can see his face it makes you feel it with him even more. I think the last section hits everyone, it definitely hit her hard. The shift in her emotion was very visible. If you've loved someone and had to watch them become a stranger you can truly relate to how he feels. It's a different kind of pain.
Nailed it!
Not a lot of people realize that the “little shake” with his head after the lyrics “all I taught her was everything.” Is actually him getting pissed off at himself for messing up the next line. He knew right then he was supposed to say “I know she gave me all that she wore,” but instead accidentally skipped forward to, “how quick the sun can drop away.” You can see it with his eye roll as he shakes his head, as if he’s cursing himself. That to me is what makes this performance one of the greatest ever. 9 out of 10 people didn’t even realize one of the greatest performances ever had a screw up error in it, because his professionalism covered it up so well that it went virtually unnoticed. A lot of artists would have stalled in the moment.
Yeah, I noticed it too and was about to leave a similar comment about it. ;)
I never picked up on that. just goes to show what a consumate professional Eddie is.
Wow. Never noticed that before and I've watched this probably a thousand times. Doesn't change a thing for me. Still the best live performance ever!
Yeah i notice it three same betram and Matt 😅
Never noticed this mistake, but after this skipping he went back to the lines what supposed to come and sang them as cool as he could. Like some kind of compensation. And this way, he did justice for that song.
No song better describes the word "tortured" than this one. Makes me tear up every single time. A true masterpiece.
The unplugged version of Nutshell by Alice in Chains is up there too
I have to agree with you there Cody x
Me too, so when she kept pulling it back to re-hear it… 😂 oh boy, yeah. The usual times a thousand. LoL As a long time PJ fan, this analysis is so well captured! Thank you for doing this. This performance has been my favourite of all time for this song, the rest of the band’s performance is equally as staggering. Tip (not for analysis, just to hear): State of Love and Trust, from this show.
It's been a while by Staind is pretty raw
Respectfully disagree. I believe that Fell on Black Days acoustic by Chris Cornell describes it better
goosebumps, tears form in my eyes, I have an actual physical reaction to Eddie's voice. Ten is the soundtrack to my youth and if I have to be in my 40's for that to have happened, then I am grateful.
The 90s when music was still meaningful and driven from real emotion!
“You hear so much passion, and emotion in his voice.” Oh girl, buckle up. Shits about to get real.
Amen!
lol
Yes, especially from the last song he sang on this special. It's crazy, I'm going to watch it now.
I was literally thinking the same thing when she said that!
Go watch The Unplugged Special. Wait until you hear Jeremy. 🤯😭
I love how he, in 4 verses, describes his lack of vision of future: empty canvas, untouched clay, like an artist that's starting over. He has no plans anymore, no project for the future, nothing. He doesn't know what to do with his own life anymore, because she is gone.
At the same time, he is describing their empty bed: the messy sheets where she one was, but not anymore.
Simply genious. Geniously simple.
And absolutely beautiful.
Excellent breakdown
Hands down one of the best voices I have ever heard. Even unplugged, he has such a unique voice and obvious passion and emotion with his voice.
Analyzing Eddie Vetter is ridiculously hard. You've done the best job I've ever heard.
Well done
I heard someone say "emotion isn't pitch-perfect" about grunge, and it's probably the best way to describe it. Love this genre so much.
Eddie Vedder is a “translator” who can convert emotion into words and sounds. It’s truly amazing.
It is just that I need a translator to understand them sometimes 😂
@@CemeterySunshine oh the irony
Explains the diction... lol
craziest thing is...he didnt even get a chance to warm up apparently, and did 25+ minutes of this level of power and sound after being sick with a sore throat the day before
They had time to warm up
story goes they showed up late....and only had a couple mins from when they showed up to the green room to taking the stage
2023 and this song never gets old. I’d pull this song out when I feel like I want to free my emotions and my mind. He’s an artist that speaks through his songs. Us guys who are in our early 40’s could relate to him and the meaning of his songs. Miss them playing…
This song hits for some of us in our 50s too... 😎❤️😎
The entire album, Ten, is a masterpiece. I'd love for you to hear it all. It's an emotional rollercoaster to be sure.
Garden, Black, and Release! HOLY HELL WHAT A POWERFUL TRIO OF BALLADS!
Best seventh grade purchase for me. Was thrilled when this came out
@@insanejughead Damn right! My triad from the album. A myriad of emotions flood my head everytime I spin the record. Musically on point, vocally on point, lyrically on point.
My fave Grunge album ever!
I’ve bought it in several incarnations and listened hundreds of times.
Agreed. Pearl Jam changed my taste for music forever. Alive has probably been the one song that most changed me. First time I heard it on MTV I was hooked.
This is one of the absolute best live vocal performances ever recorded.
Pearl Jam Unplugged; Stoned Temple Pilots Unplugged; and Nirvana Unplugged are the absolute BEST live performances I’ve ever seen in my life! I would give anything to be able to go back in time and watch these performances Live. I would give every dollar I ever own for the rest of my life to be able to watch these concerts live. It sucks I was only 2 years old when they performed these shows why couldn’t I be older in these days 😩
@@flogoph13 Forgot Alice in Chains unplugged. In my opinion the best one.
The studio version of this is better.
I had just found this channel a half hour ago and looked for a reaction to Black after watching the first video
@@sirdawg that's a matter of opinion and your opinion is wrong
I truly believe that people who grew up during this time period grew up to be special people. Think about it, think about the lyrics we heard and how it shaped us subconsciously. I was blessed enough to grow up in Washington during this time and what I remember was that it was strange we were getting so much attention, but it was also kind of pride. Yes we were weird and dressed different and acted rebellious, but I think people were principled and dreamers. It was the time just before the internet kicked off, the last human social group. This music was just different because it was so relatable, like "classic" rock of the 60's and 70's was. Sometimes I wish we could just go back to before we went full digital.
Seattle used to be a great city!! I grew up there. The music, the nature, the food, the people, the music, the music, the music. Now, I will sing this song and think of how I miss that city because it isn't the same. It's a hateful, evil place now, and it makes me as sad as this song.
Watching your reaction slowly change through the course of this performance from joy, excitement and almost giddiness at the start, to virtually having your soul ripped apart at the gutwrenchingly raw and broken emotion eddy conveys towards the end, is exactly what I go through everytime I watch this. To not only write such a masterpiece, but deliver it in such a powerful way is a gift like no other. One of the greatest songs of all time imo. Thankyou for sharing it with a wider and hopefully new audience.
"I know some day you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star in somebody elses sky but why....why...why can't it be....can't it me mine." My favorite lyric of any song. It's deeply personal to Eddie but also to anyone who hears it. Beauty and Sadness made perfect.
I really liked this song when it first came out but after getting divorced 5 years ago, I feel it on a completely different level. It hurts sometimes, to listen to it, but it also makes me feel better afterwards.
@@kevinwheesysouthward9295 I can definitely relate to this. My wife and I loved this song and we basically created our children together while it was playing. I mean we played it almost every single night as we were going to bed. If we were ever to split I am positive I'd have a mental breakdown if I heard this song.
Some of the best lyrics ever written
Song writing at it's rawest and most powerful
That line propels Black to my favourite PJ song. Was on repeat when my GF left me in high school.
“I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be a star in somebody else’s sky, but why can’t it be mine”, is the most gorgeous line ever written in a song IMO. We’ve all, myself included, been there. Got that one person that we’ve lost that this song brings us back to every time we hear it. Such an emotional and powerful performance!!!
That is some beautiful writing! Just a verse earlier Eddie drops this on us:
And now my bitter hands
Cradle broken glass
Of what was everything
The lyrics combined with his voice give these lines some of the most lamentful (I just made that word up) feelings I have heard in a song!
What about " Sometimes when I'm alone I wonder aloud if you are watching over me some place far abound " Cemetery gates which is also from that time period and has some of the most amazing lyrics as well.
the imagery in this is gorgeous - but it's one of the very indicative things about Pearl Jam there is so much allusion and metaphor in their music -
Jaw-dropping is a perfect way to describe this amazing performance! One of my all time favorite songs. Stellar lyrics. Love how Eddie thoroughly throws himself into his music. He’s such an original👏👏👏
This song obviously is too personal for him. He didn't want this song to be a hit. He refuse to release it as a single or a music video and it took him a long time to perform this song live in a concert.
This is one of my favorite songs ever!
It’s obviously so personal… quite amazing he DID perform it live… thanks for mentioning this…
That’s why he didn’t want to release it. I thank him for doing it! This song and his performance captures the intensity of emotions that come from love for another and almost everyone has experienced that. He is uniquely talented!❤️
thanks for this comment!
No it's not.
Ha! Booyakasha! That was what I named my main character in World of Warcraft in 2004. Back when Sasha Baron Cohen was cool! Too bad he’s revealed himself to be a despicable person.
Coincidentally, the WoW character I made was a horde troll lol.
That line... “ I know you’ll be a star in somebody else’s sky but why can’t it be mine” gets me every time!!
No kidding! It's one of the most expressively poetic lines I've heard in music. I'm not generally impressed by such things, but if a mere line in a song can hit me in the feels like that, I'll give my respect.
@@excelsior-zs7vh Another line that gives me this emotion is a song Pearl Jam covers all the time... "Rockin in the Free World" by Neil Young. This line gets me (about a young person addicted to drugs): "There's one more kid that'll never go to school
Never get to fall in love, never get to be cool"
He got so emotionally lost in this performance that he added the ending lines "we belong - we belong together" which are not part of the recorded song right there and then
“BlackLivesMatter”=WarIsPeace
Note that he often added those lines live, and this definitely wasn't the first time. I recommend looking up the 1992 Pinkpop performance of this song on YT, which to me is the quintessential version.

The pain of love lost is expressed exceptionally by Eddie in this masterpiece
From what I've heard - Eddie had a massive head cold which frustrated him throughout the set. His friends in the crowd knew it, and you can hear them encourage him to push through it. He pulled it off amazingly, for a once in a lifetime performance.
Wow I've loved this performance since it aired on MTV and never knew that. Thanks for noting that.
@@ruinsane100 Yeah, neither did I.

She was at the show either the night before or the night after this performance
yeah, in the unplugged soundcheck audio you can listening it. He does not force his voice in the high places and leaves pieces without singing. You can tell in his voice that he had a cold
It’s funny hearing this take on it. And I think she is right on with her analysis. But being the recording engineer on the record Ten, I had a different perspective on him developing his voice, lyrics and style in the studio. Before he was confident, after touring and playing live, and really owning it. Funny for me when you look back at all. Different perspective. But man did Eddie end up delivering and become a star that he should be.

And when your deepest thoughts are broken, keep on dreamin' boy 'coz when you stop dreamin' it's time to die." - Shannon Hoon of Blind Melon. Sadly he was not able to overcome his demons.
That, I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life I know you’ll be a star line is still one of the most beautiful and sad moments in a PJ song ever, such an amazing voice. Great breakdown
The most painful lyrics I have ever heard. No other song/lyrics in existence can make me tear up like this... I miss her more than anything
i seriously appreciate your breadth of knowledge and your ability in pulling aspects from these songs and presenting them. You bring to already loved works, highlights of beauty I was unable to appreciate prior to your explanations. Brings depth to my shallow views. i've learned of devil notes and vibratos and the sounds of emotional connection. How half steps, rapid but not a trill can make you dizzy and lost. Thanks.
“I know someday you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be the sun in somebody else’s sky, but why, why, why can’t it be mine?” The saddest lines in rock music. And who hasn’t felt that at some point in their life? Nobody I’d guess.
I couldn’t wait for her to react to that line after previously stating how powerful the lyrics were. I was thinking “just wait…”.
It always reminds me of a special someone which in retrospect I fucked up our chance. Never fails to bring a tear to my eye.
Screaming "we belong together!" even though they are gone... Goddam that hits home.
You know he says "sun" and not "star" - because there are lots of stars in our sky but only one sun.

This entire “Unplugged” performance was one that had formed my taste, as to what should be expected for emotional impact from an artist. “Unplugged’s” Alice in Chains and Nirvana shows were also generation changing.
Those 3 were all incredible, I have AIC’s as 1 but PJ and nirvana’s are incredibly good too and legendary as well. Miss those iconic unplugged performances.
Stone Temple Pilot's MTV Unplugged was phenominal too.
@@michaelperrys4588 not as good as AICs imo but still damn good. Great show forsure.
AIC is 1. for sure... what Layne gives us is just incredible. In my personal rank AIC > PJ > Nirvana > STP
@@JaimeSellaoH the fact that Layne was as feeble as he was during that performance is just insanity. A true power house
Probably the very best unplugged performance EVER
"I had no idea he could sing like that." I'm always blown away by how people are surprised to learn that the greats are, you know, great.
Lady, I didn’t think I could like this song any more than I already did. But your commentary and incredible description of what was going on from a musical/vocal perspective just notched it up even further. Thank you.
its always been my favourite PJ song. Damn I liked hearing her talk about this masterpiece
I couldn't agree more! I didn't want this video to end! 🙄
That's way I love this song's reactions so much
It's what she always do with songs we already love, and it's pure bliss ^^
Black has always been my fave PJ song n she gets it perfectly!
Dude imagine singing this song about someone you have this much emotion about publically. Artists are incredible and insane
Its an absolutely terrifying thought. What a glorious outlet and gift to us
Wow. I can't even find the words to respond to that.
I get emotional listening to it, I can't imagine performing it in front of people.
I think about this struggle all the time; it's awe inspiring in a way, sharing these raw emotions with others in such a talented way. Very rare indeed to be able to do it like this.
He’s a phenomenal songwriter, singer and performer. His growling voice and lyrics draw you in and feel the emotions. Eddie Vedder is one of my top three for sure. Just saw him in concert in Austin tx 2023 and he was still amazing as heck
My favorite Pearl Jam song of all time
This is, hands down, one of the finest performances of it's era.

I love watching people fall in love with Eddie's voice. He's a true talent and has such a heart felt voice.
This is it. Getting the joy of seeing someone experience this performance for the first time.
This is the most heartbreaking song ive ever heard in my life, but its so masterfully written, i cant help but to keep coming back to it.
The Ten album takes me back to a time and space. Iraq, early 2003, a palace rooftop in Southwest Baghdad. I had a hand crank radio and someone on the US SOM -B radio station was playing the ten album. It was so unexpected but a wonderful piece of home in a far off place. To this day whenever i hear it thats what I think of. A fond memory from a place filled with nightmares.
It’s time for Layne..... Love Hate Love live at The Moore
Yes nutshell unplugged
YES. So many good choices. I heard Man in the Box was the reaction coming. Love, Hate, Love is one of my favorites.
Please, E. It's Layne (AiC) time 😈 you will not be disappointed in anything he did. Even at MTV Unplugged, where he was clearly higher than the international space station, his singing pierces the soul. Also Jerry Cantrell on backing vocals makes for an amazing duo.
Yeah I like Down in a Hole or Nutshell, but Got Me Wrong, and Rooster have good unplugged versions too.
Yep, was going to suggest the same thing.
You've heard eddie and chris, now it's time for Layne! Love, hate, love live at the moore, it's an outstanding performance
Pleaseeeeeee!!!
Pretty please!!
PLEASE, yes. I've been waiting for Layne to pop up on this channel.
Almost everything Layne did was out of this world 👌🏻 I love his “goat-singing” on ‘Godsmack’ 😜
dont forget Scott Weiland a great singer as well.
“I know you’ll have a beautiful life, I know you’ll be a star in someone else’s sky, but why can’t it be, can’t it be, can’t it be mine?” - shivers and chills. One of my absolute favourite heartbreak songs.
The entire Ten album is an emotional journey everyone should take at least once a year
Now that she has seen Chris and Eddie is Time for Layne Staley - Love Hate Love
Agreed. The live version is so powerful and moving. Needs to be heard.
@@Truthenigma Hmm. I could've sworn that she did AIC:LHL some time ago. Sometimes reactors do a video and then later on it gets taken down by the license holder, so perhaps she did do it already and it was taken down? I could be wrong, but I really thought that she did it already.
Yeessss!
Absolutely. The performance from "Live at the Moore" is legendary.
Totally agree! That Layne performance from the Moore was one of my favorites
first time i ever heard this song, I was blown away. "ten" is a fantastic album
They called it Ten because they knew it will be 10 out of 10 :D
Ten and vs 2 of my favourite albums... EVER!
@@fluffymac2266 I love Elderly woman behind the counter in a small town from Vs.
I was glued to that album when it came out. It’s brilliant
My first, only one to stay in my collection and best pearl jam album
I heard had song, that MTV Unplugled, when I was 11 years old! It is still one of my favorite songs of all times!
Ditto. I was also 11 when this MTV performance aired in 1992 and Ive been a PJ fan ever since. We grew up in a good era.
I listen to a lot of different genres but Pearl Jam has really pulled me out of some difficult times. Thank you God for Pearl Jam and Eddie Vedder . God and PJ saved me
Thematically, this song purports to be about letting go. But the intensity of the delivery shows that he is far from ready to let go and anticipates he will in fact be forever damaged. Brilliant juxtaposition.
Eddie wrote this song on the Bus on the way to his Pearl Jam audition. I believe he sang it at the audition.
Best vocalist in decades.
In his early 20s at that!
This song was also wrote about his first love a longtime girlfriend they broke up dont know the reason but he said it devastated him
He still worked at a gas station, maybe she dumped him because she thought he had no future...
You can't forget Kurt
@@RockNRollJunkie-iw8rk not true, they stayed together all the way up until 2000
I would like to say a few words about the excellent sound of the drums and bass. The recording of this live performance was spot on and the musicians impeccable.
I feel like because Eddie is so incredibly talented as a front man the rest of the band is often overlooked. The whole band is incredibly talented it's insane.
Vedder's capacity to communicate emotion is simply amazing, I bet this song is cathartic to so many people. It shares one of the best qualities of art, it talks about something universal to our experience.
If you want another Pearl Jam full of emotion, definitely hit up "Jeremy".
the unplugged version is so dang amazing!
That song to this day, has yet to make me cry .weird
Or porch. Pinkpop or unpluged
Jeremy or Porch from the same show for sure.
Please do Jeremy or Even Flow... Garden might be a good one as well :D
This song never fails to give me goosebumps
You all get goosebumps

@@BakedNConfused dude same man under my sheets in my bed, this song means too much to me, an amazing analysis as always
they just keep growing and getting stronger throughout the length of the song. amazing.
The anguish is utterly visceral in this song.
Eddie's voice is like gravity. It pulls at your soul.
This is one of the best songs of the grunge period. And the emotion that Eddie puts in this performance is incredible. Elizabeth is thanking us for the suggestion, but we thank her for the knowledge and heart that she puts in her reactions...
I only have one thing to change in your comment....this is THE BEST song of the grunge period.
James Gee nope Man In The Box is the best in the grunge period
@@tristencoon8198 you are a man of culture
Like any genre, even if you don't like it that much, there are always good songs and performers.
Pearl Jam has always been my favorite of the big three of grunge. They are all amazing but i just love me some Pearl Jam.
This song literally never fails to reduce me to tears. It was a heavy favorite of my fiancée's after I introduced her to it. She up an' died on me [rude], and Eddie somehow manages to voice the pain I feel.
*{ °SORRY TO HEAR~THAT BRO ! } €¥£ ^
That’s a very real and very sad story. I guess there are songs that are like special moments of time that connect us to experience and tragedy… Over the years and decades of memories. May you have peace.
I´m so sad to hear that. The pure emotion in a song like this can somehow help process the pain. A song that recently helped me through some hard times was Poet and the pendulum by Nightwish. ua-cam.com/video/iEzZRMthhXU/v-deo.html I wish the best to you!
Rest In Peace to Daniel Farris's fiance.
Very sorry to hear of your loss. You're not alone. Lost my wife of 20 years to cancer. Pearl Jam was her and is one of my favorite bands of all time. Take care, live for your lost fiancee as I live for my wife. As long as they are in our hearts we retain a piece of what once was... and that is something, rather than nothing. Peace to you.
Vedder has an incredible voice.
I don't know if I had tears in my eyes because of Eddie or because or watching you appreciate Eddie with your knowledge of music, either way. Thank You so much!
Eddie’s ability to convey emotion is absolutely top-tier.
One of the best, behind Layne but above almost anyone else Imo. Such a great performance here
Listening to Eddie live, you hear his raw emotion and power perfectly synced together
Yeah... watching this video reaction being paused at all times breaks that raw power. :(
@@rodsagredo does she put a link to the song in the description? Let me check.
Yes. The link is in the description. That makes it easy.
@@rodsagredo totally disagree. Listening to the song, you get caught up in the performance. The pauses give you a moment to process the gravity of his lyrics. The song doesn't make me cry, but these videos tear me up.
I know some day you'll have a beautiful life, I know you'll be a star....In Somebody else's sky but why, why, why, can't it be mine......shit gets me. Every. Damn. Time. The raw emotion in this performance is unlike most anything today and actually makes my face leak a bit.
I love Eddie's voice. I was born at the right time to be a teenager during that period, and we were blessed with some of the best music.
i remember people used to make fun of his faces when he sang and for me that always me love him more, the raw emotion with the talented voice fucking great
"I feel like we've been pulled into his world."
You just described every Eddie Vedder song.
She was killing me stopping 4 times before he drops into the chorus. I was yelling like "just let it play, you're almost there!!" 🤣🤣
Me too!
If you just want to listen to the song go to the original video. If you want to learn something about music let her do what she thinks is necessary.

She does that alot but oh well can't blame her for getting views
Sirens is the other Pearl Jam that consistently brings me to tears.
Even when he made a mistake and sang the wrong part of the song he just gave a little head shake and carried on. This is the best song ever written in my book. It's complete genius!
After listening to this song for 30 years I still tear up and get chills every single time. One of my favorite songs of all time.
Me too. It’s been my favorite song since it’s come out and every time I hear it all of my emotions come out. I don’t even have any proper personal pain and I relate it to. But I just feel his pain and it just gets me every single time. It’s the most powerful and emotional song of my life
He said this song was about letting go, but this performance is about how even if you let go, all it takes is a little scratch on that scar to take you right back to when the pain was fresh and raw.
Yellow Ledbetter, Alive, Elderly woman..., Dissident, Oceans, Last kiss, Even flow the list goes on hunni take your pick!!! Can't go wrong, I promise you!
